I bought these for my mother who has 50% hearing loss. She thinks they are wonderful; no static --- said they are the best present I have ever given her. My father said I gave him a present at the same time since the battle of the competing tv's (sports versus Dateline) had just been about turning the volumes on both TV's up. (Though you do have the volume on somewhat for the headphones to be effective. However, my father says he can live with that.)
After trying my mom's, my sister who is at 5A exerciser would wake her 4 children and husband. Now that she has these headphones, my brother-in-law says the only thing that wakes them up now is her laughter when she watches Nick or TV Land comedies while doing her Schwinn Aerodyne.
No technical knowledge here (though I thank all those who left it in their reviews)... just a review on a stellar product.

Okay, that title may be a little over the top, but these wireless headphones really did provide us with a great compromise. I purchased the Sennheiser RS 140 headphones for my husband who often gets up during the night to watch TV in the next room. Since I'm a light sleeper this had often caused harsh words between us. Now he can wear his headphones, hear the TV better than ever, and never interrupt my sleeping. Neither of us is very technically savvy. But the Sennheiser RS 140 was so simple to set up and use, we felt like pros! My husband wears hearing aids during the day, but likes to rest his ears in the evening. The headphones really do help clarify sound and voices for him so he can follow the dialog better. And with the 150-foot transmission range, he can wear them all over the house and not miss part of his program. I have used these for about a month and am completely satisfied with them. That said, I must add the caveat that I am quite hard of hearing and I use them so I can hear what is being said on television without having to annoy everyone else in the house. I cannot evaluate their potential for audiophiles as I don't use them for music. (Deaf people don't appreciate music.) The headset is quite comfortable to wear and the controls are easy to use as long as you don't wear mittens. I particularly like the ability to get up and go to the kitchen for a refill without missing any of the movie dialogue. The only drawback is that the earmuffs block out a lot of the noise from the local environment. If my wife says something I have to pull one earpiece off and ask her over. But then, this may not be a drawback for some users.Customer Review: 10 stars if possible!

i bought these for my husband who has some hearing loss. our house has an open floor plan and when he has the tv on (loud) i can hear it from every other room in the house and it drowns out my own tv. after reading the reviews, i purchased the 140. let me tell you, from day 1, it's been heaven. i know he's there because i hear him laugh once in a while, but the house is silent except for my own tv on normal volume. when he first looked at the headphones he balked because they are big. he put them on and his eyes lit up! he can hear perfectly, there's no static, he can walk to every room and still hear his programs. he'd been missing so much of the programs just because he couldn't hear even with the volume way up, not any more! he is so happy and i am doubly happy! i can't recommend them enough.Customer Review: Sensational Sennheiser!

I received the RS140 as a Christmas present to replace my much used Radio Shack wireless headphones. I have used the RS140 for over 5 months and like them so much I bought a second pair of headphones. I use them primarily to listen to talk radio and sports during yard work. I have a large lot. The signal reaches for up to 250 feet. My favorite feature is the self tuning. On the rare occasion when the signal drops, the RS140 finds a new signal within a couple of seconds, leaving my hands free to keep working. The battery life is outstanding. The sound is of good quality in my opinion. The instructions are easy to follow. They fit well on my average size head and are comfortable after many hours use, even in the Texas heat. This was my first Sennhheiser purchase. It won't be my last!
