Customer Review: Lives up to its reputation, would give it 4.5 stars if I could
Summary: 5 Stars

I love these headphones. I have had three other pair (two RCAs and a Sony) in the past dozen years and these, by far, are the best. I would buy them again and I recommend them.

I bought these as I recently moved to a small apartment building of a dozen units around an open court yard. I like to watch action movies, loud science fiction, as well as the radio at 5 AM when I get up. I didn't want to be a noisy neighbor. And I do like to have my audio as I move around my apartment.

The clarity of these headphones is wonderful. I had to upgrade my amplifier's antenna to use them for FM, they brought out all of the sounds, both intended music and news, as well as static. I can go all around the property, out to the car port through two stucco walls to my car and it is amazingly clear.

The feel is almost wonderful. I find them a tiny bit uncomfortable after a few hours. The fabric used on the ear coverings is something I am getting used to, a sightly less comfortable feel than I would like.

The design has an odd feature that I would like to see them change in future releases. I find the on/off and volume and other controls on back side of the ear coverings is very inconveniant. I have accidently turned them off a few times and also sent the volume skyrocketing if I am in my recliner and move my head on a pillow there. I've turned to grab the TV remote and end up with the sound blaring. I sometimes swap them left/right on my head and the fit is almost as comfortable. My original comfort comments above were from the normal orientation. Swapped L/R they are maginally less comfortable.

Overall great, ergonomically they need a tweak or two. Worth the cost, definitly.

Customer Review: Nothing Better!
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased these headphones to replace a wireless set (Optimus Pro 100) I've used for the past 10 years. My old set worked very well, but would cut out in certain places throughout the house, due to various electrical interferences with the signal. This Sennheiser set has automatic tuning to keep the signal strong, with only a momentary loss while it quickly retunes. I had to manually retune with the old set. I also have a hearing loss, so I use these to hear the TV or Movie with clarity, and don't have to turn up the volume on the TV and disturb others in the room. The added clarity with this system is much better than my old system, and allows me to understand what is being said without having to rely on closed captions so much. I am very happy with these headphones, and hope they last as long as the system they replaced. The audiophiles that have reviewed this product cannot understand how much the hard of hearing can appreciate this product. I don't have to wear my hearing aids with this system, and I can hear many of the frequencies that are normally difficult for me. I couldn't ask for anything better!

Update; I noticed a few reviewers commenting on some hiss detected in this unit while walking around their house or outside. I have the TV audio signal connected to my tuner/amplifier, and I plug the wireless transmitter in to the headphone jack on the front of my tuner/amp. I shut off my stereo speakers, and turn up the volume on the tuner/amp to send a stronger signal to the wireless transmitter, and it eliminates the hiss or weaker signal strength I believe they are reporting. My wife noticed the same problem recently, and I showed her how to increase the transmission volume to eliminate it. Hope this helps.

Customer Review: We can hear the TV again!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been wanting to watch TV for years but couldn't because I'm hearing impaired and blind (so I can't read close captioned TV either). My husband is also hearing and visually impaired and connects up to the TV with wired headsets, which works ok for him except it's like being connected by a long umbilical cord, and it mutes the TV external sound so nobody else can watch the TV with him. Because of our hearing impairments, simply turning the TV volume up doesn't work because it distorts the sound too much. So I started researching wireless headsets, found the reviews on the Sennheiser RS 140 Wireless Balanced Headphones, and ordered them and an extra pair of the add-on headphones. We've had them for 3 months and they are amazing!! For the first time ever, we can watch TB together, can individually adjust our own volume controls, and if we had company, they can watch the TB with us because you have the option to leave the external sound on or mute it. The headphone sound clarity is excellent, we haven't had any problem with static, and it was a snap to install. My husband, who watches a lot more TV than I do, alternates wearing the 2 headphones so that one is always being charged up on the stand, so there hasn't been an issue with one of the headphones losing its charge when we both watch TB together. BTW, earbuds were out of the question because my husband finds them uncomfortable and I have 2 cochlear implants. These look like over-the-ear hearing aids , so I needed ear muffs large enough to encompass them. The Sennheiser headphones are not only comfortable, but the ear muffs are large enough to fit perfectly over my cochlear implants too. If I could give these a rating of 10, I would!

Customer Review: Excellent choice
Summary: 5 Stars

After a good bit of review, I decided to get the Sennheiser wireless headphones for use with a wall mounted TV that I view while walking on a treadmill. I was simply tired of trying to hear the TV, particularly with DVD's, over the whine of the treadmill. I've now had the headphones for a couple of months and could not be more pleased with their performance. They have proven to be an excellent choice. I don't know how well they might work for an audiophile, but for this application they are perfect. They are comfortable even for extended use, block out the treadmill sound nicely, and produce high quality sound. The volume and balance controls are very easy to use and initial set up was transparent ... just plug it in and go right out of the box. Charging them is particularly easy, you just drop them on the wire rack that is part of their stand and they charge. They also wipe off easily afterwards if I last long enough to sweat a bit.

Incidentally, TV's apparently don't come with headphone jacks these days, but the Sennheiser headphones are designed to work equally well with a TV's audio out. The package includes the appropriate adapter for this purpose. If you are trying to decide on headphones be careful in this regard, since many require the amplified signal provided by a headphone jack (there is no easy work around for this deficiency apparently ... one suggestion I found suggested running the TV audio into another device that had a headphone jack!).

Jan 29, 2011: update - still using these regularly after 3 years now and they are still performing flawlessly; have proven to totally live up to their reputation.

Customer Review: Wireless Headphones RF 140
Summary: 5 Stars

The RS 140 headphones were an excellent replacement for my wired headphones. my wired headphones cords kept getting damanged because of my chair and the internal wires got exposed frequently. plus the wires to the headphones kept getting lose. after 5 years of this, i decided to go wireless. i avoided wireless headphones for a while because i was afraid that the battery life was going to be poor and the RF connection would produce a lot of static. i did a lot of research and i based my decision on those two criterias. i was very doubtful about these sennheiser based on other people's reviews about the static. However, after using these headphones for a month now, i absolutely impressed. the battery life is excellent. it has never gone dead after an entire day use which absolutely surprised me. and for the static...it really depends on what frequency you have it set on. there are three available channels btw. and i noticed that the first channel somewhat intefers with my cordless phone whenever someone operates it. the static is more like quiet buzz in the background. so i switched it to the third channel and it completely eliminated the static. in addition, the RF also works great through walls. and the sound quality and volume is very constant whenever i move about my home. the only downfall is that the wireless headphones does have a limited range as described in the package. i'm also concerned that the wireless headphones are made completely out of plastic...looks fragil. plus, the controls on the headphones can be easily changed if you lean back.

overall, it's an excellent product
