Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sennheiser PC 350 Collapsible Gaming Headset with Vol Control & Microphone Mute

Customer Review: Great after modification
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this headset a few months back to compliment my computer's changeover from a 5.1 channel Turtle Beach headset back to 2-channel headphones. In doing so, I moved from an Asus Xonar DX to an Asus Xonar Essence STX, and wanted to get a decent pair of cans for gaming.

I really enjoyed my Sennheiser HD-555s, however I wanted an integrated microphone so that I would have an easier time at lan-parties. I didn't want to sacrifice audio quality, however, so I decided to give the PC350s a try.

When I first got them, I'd have to say I wasn't impressed. Even after letting them break in overnight, they just didn't feel up to par with even my 555s, and these are supposed to have the same drivers as the HD-595s. Crusing the internet, found that there were lots of people that drilled holes in the plastic casings around the drivers, and lo and behold it made them sound much better. So, I went ahead and pulled them apart and drilled 5 small holes in each casing, and I'd have to say...these are now great!

I still say they won't quite compare to the nice, open HD-595s, but I honestly prefer the sound of these to my HD-555s and HD-280s. And that's pretty good, considering their price. I do admit that I'm not happy that I had to mod them myself, but I don't mind now that I finally have a headset with a mic that doesn't make me cry when listening to explosions.

I'd recommend this, but only if you're willing to mod them to get the best auditory experience in this price range.

Customer Review: Perfect headset for gaming
Summary: 5 Stars

This headset is perfect for gaming and sounds fantastic for music.

Pros.
Very comfortable can wear for hours with no problem.
Sound is outstanding
Microphone works perfect
Well made, sturdy.

Cons
No real cons but a couple of minor points that "could" be a con for some people.
These are higher than average impedance headphones (150ohms) so in order to get the best sound out of them you need a good sound card and a headphone amplifier.
The Claro Halo sound card is perfect for these headphones it has a built in amplifier and powers these headphones great, you sound as if you are listening to a live concert.

So if you are looking for an all around headset for gaming, VOIP, music etc then look no further, buy these.

Reviewers that gave these a low rating did so out of operator error, properly powered these headphones are as good as it gets.

(Edit) Nov 20th 2010. For those interested in a headset that is "Open" as opposed to closed they now have a PC360 model that is open plus they are also much lower Impedance only 50ohm so they will work with virtually any sound card.
I have owned these PC350s for almost 2 years now and have had zero problems with them and they still look like brand new.
Personally for gaming I prefer a close ear design and prefer the isolation that they provide.

Customer Review: Best. Headset. Ever.
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been playing online PC games for nearly 10 years, and using voice chat in conjunction almost as long. Over the years I've used (and broken) many headsets. Logitech, Plantronics, Altec Lansing, etc. I've tried them all, and this is easily the best I've ever tried.

PROS:
1. Comfort. You can wear these for hours and not have any aches or discomfort. The ear pads actually fit 100% around your ears, not ON them, so they aren't pressed. The top headband has nice soft padding.
2. Sound. I'm not an audio expert, but this is the best sounding headset I've used. There seems to be a great volume range. When chatting with people I often have the game sound turned WAY down, to about 10%. Even that low these headphones provide clear audio. And since the ear pads fit around your ears they block out much of the room's ambient noise.

CONS:
1. Size. These are fairly large and not good for travel. They do actually fold, so you CAN take them on the road, but they're really meant for home use.

Yes, these are a bit expensive. The most expensive headset I've bought, but generally you get what you pay for, and these are well worth the price.

Customer Review: Excellent comfort and construction, Great sound
Summary: 5 Stars

I have owned this headset for over a year now and I am thoroughly impressed. I can wear them all day and not even know they're on my head. They have just the right amount of holding pressure for me. Sound quality is very good. They do not have a flat response. They seem to have a bit of a boost around the 2k range, probably for voice intelligibility. The bass response is very good but not room shaking. Overall they have a well balanced sound and excellent directionality that is perfect for gaming. My AKG K240s are better for music and more accurate (though lacking in bass extension) but for games the Sennheisers rule. The microphone is good. I never get complaints that people can't understand me. It does pick up quite a bit of ambient noise. People can hear the TV in the background if it's turned up loud enough. A noise cancelling feature would be nice. I power these cans with a Behringer UB802 mixer which provides plenty of power but they are pretty efficient. My laptop can also drive them quite well but not as loud.

Overall these cans get a big thumbs up from me. They are holding up very well. After a year they still look and feel like new.

Customer Review: Lacking bass? Sound harsh? Yeah, ok...
Summary: 5 Stars

First off, I started getting really worried after reading some of the reviews regarding the lack of bass these phones have along with how "shrill" the highs are.

I use these with a steelseries adapter, and simple Fiio amp in conjunction with my Xbox.

Sound: Awesome, the bass is all there, some might mix up low, good quality bass with "no bass", but I promise you, those are the people that are only used to low quality "boomy" bass. These are a pleasure to listen to, either with music or with gaming. Crystal clear highs, undistorted, clear open lows.

I play alot of Halo 3 online, and these bad boys took me by surprise the first time I used them. I was shooting and AR (Yes, I was just playing with the different guns, they sound alot different with these headphones), and the bass was making my ears flutter!

Mic: Very nice! Clear and pretty sensitive, sounds way better than my stock xbox headset!

Hands down, the best headset I have used! Dont buy into the Astro "surround" hype, many pro gamers use these, including the MLG pros Triggers Down.
