Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sennheiser HD201 Lightweight Over-Ear Binaural HeadphonesCustomer Review: Best buy for under $20 Summary: 5 Stars
Definitely a great buy for the price. I have a nasty habit of breaking headphones (my room is compact, and they often end up on the floor near my computer and get stepped on), and after buying a couple of pairs @ $50-$100 a piece, I finally got sick of spending all that money and shopped around for a good pair at or under $20.
You can't miss with these if you're looking for a budget buy. Great bass response, almost no distortion even at high volumes, great mid and high range as well. Completely circumaural, even for those of us with big ears. Perfect for audiophiles on a budget.
The only complaint I have is that I think they will be a little uncomfortable for long use, as they fit a little tight on my head (admittedly, I have a larger than average skull), but that is a completely minor thing considering the quality of sound and the price.
No, they're not noise cancelling, and yes, Sennheiser's other, more expensive models may give better sound quality, but for being under $20, these headphones absolutely rock! Sennhesier definitely knows how to make a high quality product, even when it comes to their cheap stuff!
Customer Review: Good quality for a ridiculous price Summary: 5 Stars
When it comes to electronics I don't usually feel good about buying the cheapest model, but this time I gave it a try. I thought 'it's still a Sennheiser and for $20 you can't go wrong'. And it didn't go wrong at all.
The headphone looks okay, it sits on your head really comfortably and it even sounds good :).
I would say it sounds rather clean, nice high, good mid perhaps lacking a little on the lows but that depends what you use it for. It is definately capable of reproducing good base without distorting when you adjust your tone settings.
It adapts to the head in three ways: the shells can extend out to fit a larger head, they tilt inwards and they also pivot to a moderate extent. You can't turn one side completely away from your ear as with some other headphones, but it sure helps making it comfortable.
The cord is 3 meters long which is handy for studio use but perhaps not on the bus. Packaging is basic but adequate, and it comes with a plug adapter.
Specs on the box:
Dynamic, closed, circumaural.
Freq range: 21-18.000 HZ
Max SPL: 108 dB
THD: <0.7%
For twenty bucks this gets my five stars!
Customer Review: Had it with earbuds? This is the solution. Summary: 5 Stars
If you have had it with the standard earbuds that come with your ipod like I have, then I highly suggest you switch to this inexpensive product. I had grown tired of the tangled mess of my earbuds. They were not practical at all. The sound was void of any sort of bass. And I was tired of have to adjust them after any little tug at the wires.
These are great. They are comfortable and fully adjustable to any size head. They fit just over your ear, which is important for me because I have had some bad experiences with ones that fit on top of your ear. Those can start to put pressure on your ears after extended use.
The sound you get from these is excellent. Great quality from whatever listening source you are attaching them to. Nice to actually hear the bass again when listening to my ipod. The cord is extremely long, I would suggest not discarding the tie that comes in the packaging with it.
The bottom line is that Sennheiser means you are getting a quality product. I also have a pair of the PMX70 sports neckband headphones. I'm very happy with the functionality and quality I get from both.
Customer Review: Outstanding Headphones Summary: 5 Stars
I received these two days earlier than what my invoice's expected ship date said.
I'm not an audiophile in any sense, but I do very much enjoy listening to various music while I work. (In fact, rarely am I _not_ listening to music while working.) When I plugged these into the back of my computer, I was instantly astounded by the quality.
Somehow, Sennheiser always seems able to put out very high-quality gear at very affordable prices. This pair of headphones doesn't seem to cut the extreme highs or lows either, instead emphasizing all aspects of the music in a very pleasing manner.
The actual headphones are great too, as they actually cup and sourround the ears to drown out most external noise. However, they're still not aurally opaque enough to drown out everything, and I can still carry on a conversation with someone else as I listen to my music or games, etc. The head band and leather is very comfortable, even after many many hours of use.
I highly recommend this to anyone who needs a budget headphone system. It's likely the best "bang for your buck" in this price range.
Customer Review: Just get a pair already Summary: 5 Stars
Mine cost $17 with free shipping. I'd have been satisfied had they simply been adequate, but I was very surprised. They ain't audiophile, but they also sound like "real cans", as good or better than the competition costing 3X as much.
Pros:
flat response: some will call this "boring"
Extremely light and comfortable, especially for large heads
great soundstage
stupidly cheap
3m cord
Cons:
not sensitive, and need a strong source like an receiver.
OK, that's a pretty lame con, as these are intended to be hifi cans, not ipod replacements.
If I compared them to higher priced stuff, then I might start talking about how the texture and timbre of the instruments is a bit lacking--but I can't really go there at the price point. For their intended use, at at the price, there are simply no glaring faults.
Tip: out of the box, sybilants such as female SSSSs's and drums can be painful. Let them burn in overnight mounted on a cantaloupe, and the drivers will loosen up. Sounds like utter voodoo, but the result was obvious with my pair.
