Customer Review: good, good stuff!
Summary: 5 Stars

I hear stuff on these that I never even knew existed on my CDs. When I play guitar through them, I actually hear the pick touching the string before the note is plucked (that's a good thing).

The padding matches the sound quality, too. They have heavenly soft padding that is so comfortable, I can (and do) wear them for hours without even noticing they're on. Unlike some other brands, these have padding on the crown as well as ears. All the padding is extraordinarily thick and plush...and easily removable/replaceable (the fact it's marketed as replacable tells you something about the build quality/expected lifespan of the phones)

One reviewer complained he can't make these fit, but, the fact is, these have comparitively high adjustability (that guy probably has some huge alien cranium...with a teeny, tiny little brain). Each side has 4 adjustment parameters - one of which allows the earcups to lay completely flat so dust doesn't fall in them! This exceptional design also allows the phones to collapse within the crown for a minimal storage size.

...also, contrary to an earlier reviewer, playing music through my laptop has never given me any buzzing (what does he want...a big fat 75 ohm coaxial cable? Unnecessary.)

They supposedly have a high isolation rating, but it's not like no sounds get through...as a matter of fact some external frequencies are enhanced.

Finally, it sports a 1/8" stereo plug with a 1/4" screw-on attachment stereo plug...all gold plated!!!

I've had mine for over 3 years (use them everyday) and am more than satisfied. Worth every penny...and then some.

Customer Review: Extraordinary Headphones
Summary: 5 Stars

I travel the globe for work as a stagehand. I am an audiophile by nature. When on a 7 month tour the only thing you ever truly miss is privacy. For audiophiles it is important to hear your favorite music w/o any interruptions.

This is my first pair of monitor quality headphones. So as to there quality for use in a sound studio, I cannot say. If I was an upcoming/Hobbyist DJ I would have to say they would probably be a good choice.
What I can say is that when you need to be able to hear your music in all the clarity and feel of a substantial home stereo system while on an airplane, hotel room or bus then these are what you want.

When I first listened to the HD 280 Pro I heard the music almost for the first time. The clarity, the bass, the fact they are closed so that no outside noise can be heard......this also keeps your music in(which makes for happy roommates, and in flight neighbors), I was completely elated.

If I knew how much I would love listening to these headphones before I bought them I would have happily paid full price.

As to their durability, I have only owned them for a month. They do feel well built, and soundly constructed.

They are big. It makes them somewhat challenging to leave on your person when transitioning through an airport w/ a small messenger bag and medium backpack. Though the size is why they are so comfortable to wear and also why they sound so good.

I would not change anything about this product.

All in all if a quality listening experience while on the go is what you are looking for than these are your headphones.

Customer Review: great cans.
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought my HD-280's about 4 years ago as a junior in high school, and they have never stopped being awesome. If you want a good set of mid-range cans these are pretty much the gold standard. These things are so freaking choice that they've influenced my taste in music drastically, they make it very easy to point out the flaws in bad music.

I've owned a ton of cans in my life and these have just blown everything else out of the water. Time and time again they delivery quality balanced sound and perform with every type of genre and purpose I throw at them.

Action movies, check.
Kevin Smith movies with a ton of dialogue, check.
Heavy Music, Pop Music, Alternative, Folk, Country, Indie, Rap, Experimental, Progressive... EVERYTHING, these cans sound great with EVERYTHING!!
and don't even get me started on these things for gaming, Half Life 2 is a whole different game with these things on.

for those of you that just want to shatter your eardrums to all holy hell, these things will do that.... and best of all, nobody is going to be irritated when you do it. I've listened to stuff like Trail of Dead, Fugazi, Pixies, HEALTH, and Crystal Castles in public places, I mention specific artists so you know that this is stuff that normally is going to leap out of headphones and cause people to throw rocks at you.

I haven't needed to buy a set of cans in a very long time, buy I doubt it gets any better than these for the price.

speaking of the price, I paid $59.99 a very long time ago for a refurbed pair... shop around... there has to be similar deals available now.

Customer Review: Best for the money, without a doubt
Summary: 5 Stars

Before purchasing these phones, I tried the HD-212's from the same manufacturer (which had an incredibly exagerated bottom end and somewhat artifical sound overall). Also the HD590's which were great, but not nearly efficient enough for my lowish powered system. Last, I tried a couple hundred dollar pair of Sony's (the top of the line model I believe) which were stunningly awful at any price.

Here is a quick summary of what i've found: Once they are burned in, they sound fantastic...clear, defined, and with a tight and accurate, but still robust bottom end. For a closed headphone, they do have a very spacious and transparent sound, they can acheive a very convincing soundstage with the right system...impressive. Like everyone has said..don't judge them out of the box, they sound less than satisfactory. Play something for 24 hours at medium volume and then listen. I have NOT had the issue of discomfort from pressure on the ears whatsoever..and I admittedly have a rather fat head. I have also not had any issues with the headband cracking..they are over 6 mos old, used almost daily and are still looking great. The build quality seems to be very good. As far as efficiency, they exceed expectations. I can use these with my laptop, even my Discman and they still put out a lot of sound, more than enough. They also block out a huge amount of outside noise, which is great. If being compact is an issue they do fold up quite nicely.

The only thing I can think of to complain about is the coiled cord, which is always irritating. Really a small complaint...all in all i'd say they are worth every penny and then some.

Customer Review: Amazing for mixing!
Summary: 5 Stars

First off, these headphones are NOT meant to be consumer cans. They are for mixing and monitoring ONLY.

The response is flat across the board, so anything mixed through them needs to be mixed a little dull or else the bass and treble will be boomy and screetchy respectively on a consumer grade system. They are loud, as well. You won't need a headphone amp for these cans in a normal studio environment.

I just bought my second pair, as my old ones wore out. The only complaints I have about these are:

1) The foam/vinyl earcups will rip at the inner seam after lots of use. I had my pair for almost two years before this happened, and the process was slow. I was using these almost every day for several hours at a time.
2) The bass response will begin to degrade around the same time.

Some equipment just needs to be replaced sometimes. Gear doesn't last forever, especially gear that's abused like my pair were.

If you own a home studio, I would recommend buying two pair of these. Keep one for tracking, monitoring, and quick mixes. Use the second pair for mixing and mastering ONLY. That way you'll save the bass response in your mixing pair. If you're like me and you have to mix your own album over a period of over a year, you'll be thankful for only using that pair during mixing, or you'll wind up with an array of different mixes where the bass is concerned.

I am rating this a 5 because these are not what I would consider flaws, merely normal wear and tear on non-serviceable electronic audio equipment.
