Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sennheiser HD-280 PRO HeadphonesCustomer Review: Excellent Sound, VERY Comfortable... Summary: 5 Stars
I do consider myself a bit of an audiophile. I have tons of audio gear and dont mind spending money on nice items since it is a hobby of mine. I read in other reviews that this headphones were tight on the head. THEY ARE NOT! I have a LARGE head and was so worried from reading previous reviews that I would not like them. The first night I receieved them I wore them for 5 hours and they didnt bother me at all!!!! I bought these primarily to listen to classic rock/blues/oldies/modern rock on my IPOD/stereo and play video games on my pc. I can say that they sound excellent, 4-5 stars. As with all speakers you really should break them in. The easiest way to do this is turn on your favorite styles of music and turn the volume up maybe 25% louder than you usually listen to it - take the headphones off of course! This will loosen up the drivers and give them more flexible bass and brighter sounding highs. I typically make a 4 hour playlist and just let it go. Do this every night for two weeks minimum and you WILL notice a greater sounding range in the music. Build quality seems to be good, of course with all audio equipment jsut be careful with it and it will last. I really like the coiled cord as i can sit in front of my pc and it doesnt bother me, but then i can also get up and walk to the other side of the room without taking the phones off - nice design. They do block quite a bit of external noise, but i havent really been anywhere too noisy with them yet - but due to the design i would think they would do a very nice job at it. I would not wear these in public due to their bulk but would rather leave them next to my stereo equipment. If these were broke i would replace them in a heartbeat, maybe even look at the next step up into this line of headphones, but for the price you cannot go wrong.
Customer Review: Sometimes excellence comes with a low price! Summary: 5 Stars
Sound Quality: I have tested out these headphones and compared them to my friend's Beats and these are on par if not better in terms of sound quality to the Beats. Not overwhelming bass, but it is definitely present and compliments all genres of music. Mids are perfect, highs are crisp as a potato chip. Even at concert-level volumes, the sound is not distorted in any way noticeable.
Comfort: Multiple occasions of hours of continuous use and I always feel like I just put them on afterwards. Ear cups are cushioned perfectly, not to soft but not too rigid. Headband is also cushioned unlike other headphones I have had in the past and trust me, it is a welcome feature. It helps spread the weight of the headphones throughout the cushioning material and makes the headphones feel lighter than they actually are. The fit (for me at least) was perfect. I didn't feel as though they were pressing against my ears too firmly, but also did not feel at any time that they would fall off my head if I started head-bobbing.
Construction: If you are looking for a sturdy, long-lasting pair of headphones that will withstand multiple drops and other accidents, these are the headphones for you. The plastic is extremely rugged and thick in all areas of the headphones. The cord is also very thick and should be able to withstand a firm tug that would rip most other headphone cords in half. The 3.5mm connection is very sturdy and you should not experience any problems such as the wires becoming exposed over time. The same can be said about the area where the cord comes out of the left headphone; it is sturdy and should be able to withstand many tugs. The rotating ear cups and folding design are welcome additions to a perfect set of headphones.
Bottom line: BUY THEM NOW!
Customer Review: Great sounding closed headphones Summary: 5 Stars
These Sennheisers are a great pair of headphones, but you need to know something very important about them: they are closed, not open. This means that the cups need to have a very good fit on your ear to get the best bass, so you better adjust the headband exactly right. Too small, and the bottom of the cups will lift up, breaking the seal, and too large and the tops will come off. So you must make sure you get that right. Also, the less hair in the seal the better, but this is good for me because I would forget to get a hair cut otherwise. So why would you want to deal with the finickyness of closed headphones? There are many benefits of this design: If you work or listen to music in noisy environments and would like some escape, these are the headphones for you! Granted, you could probably get better ambient noise reduction with some active noise cancelling headphones, but these guys do really great without being nearly as expensive. Nobody is going to bother you in these unless they are shouting directly in your ears or operating some serious heavy machinery. Also, the music for the most part stays in, so they are good for listening to music in an environment where you can't make noise. Or maybe you're just nice and don't want to bother those people next to you with a tinny version of your great music leaking out. As for the sound quality, they are excellent in that area. You may be in for a surprise if you fall in the "all you need is bass" category of listeners, because these do not have a huge bass lump, but instead a very even frequency response, down to some very deep lows and all the way up to crisp high frequencies. If you don't already own some good headphones, you will surely be constantly listening to your entire music collection on these.
Customer Review: great closed cans Summary: 5 Stars
I live next to a busy road and needed closed cans to block traffic noise while listening to my ipod on my porch. These not only block all the traffic noise, they sound great too. They are great to wear inside while running loud appliances or using the vacuum. In fact it can be a little freaky wearing these late at night or with your eyes closed. You can't hear anything else... someone could kick down my front door and sneak up on me!
These are great passive closed cans with a tight padded fit to block noise instead of active "noise cancelation" cans that actually add noise... Anytime you need to block outside noise or keep your music from disturbing others, passive closed cans are the way to go. I have a thin head and very short hair so the tight fit is fine for me and it helps block unwanted sounds. I can wear them for hours without them hurting my head. Even though the HD280 Pros don't hurt my head like other reviewers they certainly are not as comfy as the HD595 headphones.
The folding feature is great and helps stow the cans when not in use. I have a bithead headphone amp and it is not needed at all with these headphones while listening to my ipod. The 5th generation video ipod has plenty of power to drive these headphones. The curly cord on the HD280 Pros is a bit on the heavy side but I like it better than the loooooong straight cord on my HD595 headphones. If you are sitting down then the cord is fine, if you are standing or walking the dangling curly cord is a tad heavy so I stuff some in my pocket to reduce the amount hanging from my head.
I read a LOT of reviews on Amazon and other sites before choosing this set. Great cans for the money. I am very happy with the closed HD280 Pro headphones.
Customer Review: Great for a noisy office Summary: 5 Stars
This is the first pair of professional-quality headphones I have ever owned. Up to this point I have used the earbuds that came with my iPod Shuffle or Sony MDR-V150 studio monitor headphones to listen to music.
I work in an office with 20 foot ceilings and not a shred of acoustic damping anywhere. Conversations held in the conference room might as well be at my desk because the sound all finds its way there anyway. The open forced-air HVAC system makes the whole place sound like a wind tunnel day and night. None of my old headphones could compete and I had to crank the volume up uncomfortably high to attempt to block out conversations.
With these headphones on, I hear only quiet music all day. I almost hesitate to get up from my desk during the day because it means returning into the noise-filled office. For comparison, I also own a pair of Peltor H10 ear protection that I bring to the shooting range to muffle gunshot reports. They are rated at 30 dB attenuation where these are rated at 32 dB attenuation. Their ability to block out ambient sound are pretty much equal.
The sound quality is superb. I have started listening to my (stock) car stereo and home entertainment system with disdain, hearing distortion of sound that I never knew was there because everything I listened to sounded that bad. I'm also able to pick out lyrics and new melodies I never heard before in songs I have listened to for years.
