Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sennheiser HD-280 PRO HeadphonesCustomer Review: AWESOME, an "8" once you know how to wear them Summary: 5 Stars
I have been using headphones for over 40 years. Most of the headphones I love have long since been discontinued. Buying headphones is harder than buying home speakers and much more subjective to your particular taste in music. I listen to ALL genres of music. I finally found a review site that made sense to me and I made the plunge into the HD280s. I have a pair of Sony MDR-V6 that sound wonderful. Honestly, the Sennheisers blow them away in all audio respects. OK, so if your head is too big, or your ears are on backwards, you might have issues with these headphones. For the normal person they kick ass, but with one VERY important oddity. The reviewer who said these have no bass really missed out. Sennheisers are a bit more quirky than most headphones. The ear pieces HAVE to seal well around your ears. If you place the phones on top of your head like any other regular headphones you MIGHT not get much bass - tinny and weak. The head band MUST fit snug towards the BACK of your head, at the highest part, to help pull the ear cups up properly to seal around your ears, and BANG, you get amazingly accurate tight bass. I have a smaller head and this worked perfectly for me. Just take the time to get these phones adjusted properly to your particular head and they will quickly become your favorite headphones. The other quirk is that Sennheisers need break-in time, about 20+ hours before they really come alive. The only way to surpass these in sound quality is to get the HD 580 or 600, or the new 650, at three to four times the price of the 280. Unless you are an absolute audiophile, these are the best phones there are, and at $99 they are a complete steal. Check out their rating and comparison at www.headphone.com. If you want to use these with a portable device, check out the dB Pro Headphone Amp on eBay. They turbo charge the HD 280s. Enjoy!!
Customer Review: Long-lasting headphones with a fantastic sound Summary: 5 Stars
Ok, so I just realized I've had these headphones for almost 3 years now! Truly now I can say that these are simply fantastic.
Like people say, they are snug-fitting. These are over-the-ear headphones and in order to keep the sound out, they gotta be tight fitting. I've had ZERO issues with my head hurting. They feel really comfortably snug. I have had ZERO problems with the headband cracking (maybe they changed the materials int he newer models).
In terms of noise reduction, these cans are really fantastic. Sure they don't stop it all but they do a great job of significantly reducing outside noise and while letting you enjoy the music without the changes that occur from active reduction headphones. I use these when I mow the lawn and at 30dB rated reduction they are really awesome. Sure they get hot and sweaty (just like ear muffs) but hey, the music is great. And as someone else said, they are great for plane rides because, oh wow, do they make those movies enjoyable and that screaming baby 3 rows back pleasantly muffled. =)
Sound quality is amazing compared to any other cheap crap you've listened to. Sure they're not as good as the higher end Sennheiser or Grado cans, but they sure hold their ground for their amazing price. They'll easily beat all the others once you have a loud talker in the room next to you.
I'll note that it's worth looking at the graphs supplied by HeadRoom when you are in the market for getting some headphones. [...].
But really folks. As a multi-year owner of these headphones I have ZERO complaints. These are simply a fantastic pair of cans at a great price. Countless friends of mine have bought their own. My only warning, make sure your cellphone ringer is set to LOUD so you can hear it ring (or the doorbell for that matter) when you are listening to your music. =D
Customer Review: Great Headphones, after burning them in Summary: 5 Stars
These are, overall amazing headphones. They sound great, are comfortable, and easily driven by portable players. However, when I first bought them, and eagerly unwrapped the packaging and tried them out, I was bitterly dissapointed. Where had my money gone, I wondered. They sounded tin canny, and the bass had no punch. I nearly returned them. But, taking the advice of many reviewers, I plugged them into my computer and left the music playing loudly for nearly a week straight. And it paid off. After nearly a month's use, these headphones sound GREAT. I have fallen in love witht eh tight, clear treble and amazingly accurate bass that the HD-280s provide. Jazz and classical fans (and rockers too but to a lesser extent) will love these headphones. I could go on and on and on about the sound quality, but you would find your self reading needless repition of the words "great," "amazing," etcetc. The design is a little big, but very comfy. I can wear these for several hours at a time and my ears will feel fine. The way that they fold up is also very useful for the frequent traveler, and the stretchy wire design is also very handy, keeping the wire out of the way yet providing you nearly 3 meters worth of wire (if stretched to the max) I would also just like to note that, after several airplane trips, the noise reduction in these headphones is also wonderful, and the HD-280 Pros make airplane flights that much more enjoyable. In conclusion, wait at LEAST two weeks, preferably more before judging these headphones, because the more you use them, the better they sound. And after a month's worth of use, they sound great. And they also fit great, and are extremely comfortable. The price too, isn't too bad, and I found them at ... for [$$$], including shipping from the states to taiwan. Do your ears a favor, and buy a pair of HD 280s.
Customer Review: Excellent sound! Make sure you burn them in. Summary: 5 Stars
When I took these headphones out of the package last Monday, the first thing I did was to run through a range of music and see what they sounded like. As many others have said, they had a very accurate, but somewhat flat sound. It sounded like they were producing the music accurately, not trying to warm it up or otherwise manipulate the sound.
From the time I first plugged them in on Monday until I left work on Friday, I had them playing continuously, drawing from a range of genres, doing two overnights of nothing but classical music and lots of rock, alternative, electronica, and other contemporary music during the day. I listened in here and there, but always kept them playing. It's worth noting that as long as I kept the ear cups together, having them playing 24/7 didn't disturb anyone in the office and was barely ever noticeable. By Thursday, the sound was significantly fuller. Having taken them home for the weekend to listen to an actual stereo and better sources (rather than iTunes with MP3s/AACs at work), I am fairly confident that these headphones produce very good sound from low to high and across all the genres that I listen to. While I don't listen to thing that are very bass-intensive, I have a lot of music with strong bass lines that are well-represented by these headphones.
They are also comfortable to wear for long periods and do significantly reduce the ambient noise (by sealing it out), though in comparing them to my 29dB firing-range hearing protection I'm not sure they're quite doing the 32dB specified.
If you're looking for comfortable closed headphones (and you should understand what that means) with accurate sound reproduction, these are perfect. Just make sure you burn them in, playing music you like, slightly above comfortable listening volume, 24/7 for several days at least.
Customer Review: Worth every cent, outstanding quality... Summary: 5 Stars
I've been aware for quite some time about the senneheiser headphones quality but I waited till I ordered my mp3 player (iAudio X5L - way better than the iPod, well the video iPod with it's video-out kinda outshines this but the X5L still rocks) and then got these.
Power: Since most mp3 players give output in 16 Ohms of impedance, any headset rated for over 64 Ohms will not do justice to itself or your player. So, if you are primarily going to use this withyour MP3 player, this is the best product available.
Build: The build is excellent with a lot of user replacabale parts. A comfortable fit. I personally prefer the circumaural ones over the earbuds. I use it for 4-6 hours a day at atleast 1-2 hour stretches and I haven't felt any discomfort. If you try using it right after a shower before your ears are completely dry, you might feel something annoying inside your ears.
Quality: Trust me. This will blow your mind away. There is a break-in period.Give it 3-5 days to achieve its peak performance potential. Reproduces all frequencies very clearly and it is a treat to your ears.
Price: I think it is worth the money if you really enjoy your music, especially if you have a deskjob where you really want to be in your own world while working.
Noise Isolation: It doesn't have noise-cancellation circuit as such but still shields you from most of the noise from outside. I have tried using this in my car with the windows open and I can still hear the music clearly at half the peak volume. There is a small buzz from the environment but negligible. At home and at work, When I have these own, I can hardly hear anyone talk.
Overall, these are amazing headphones. If you are going to get yourself soemthing nice, I would definitely recommend giving the HD280s a good look.
