Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sennheiser HD 202 Dynamic HeadphonesCustomer Review: Good sound quality and affordable, too Summary: 5 Stars
I use ear buds a lot and wanted to switch it up a bit, for both comfort and to protect my hearing. I've read that ear buds send more decibels into the ear than headphones set at the same volume, and that even children are experiencing hearing loss from this.
I am very happy with the sound quality. I've used them for listening to music, watching TV, playing video games, and I also plug them into my amp to play bass guitar (A 1/4" adapter is included in the box). They have served me well for all of these purposes. I am just a general user, not an audiophile, and can't dissect the sounds like a connoisseur at a wine tasting, but they sound good to me.
The headphones are a little tight, and I have to situate them just right if I am going to use them for longer than an hour or so. You can adjust the actual headphone part up and down, which gives you some choice in how they sit on your head. For me, they are more comfortable if I adjust them a bit longer than needed to get a snug fit.
They have become more comfortable over time. Either there is a break-in period, or I just needed to get used to them.
I love the long cable and the little spool to wind it up is very useful; I don't have to sit and untangle the cable like I do with ear buds.
I thought that I would feel all 1980's AV Club with these on, but they don't look too goofy. They are really pretty small and sleek for over-the-ear headphones.
I think that the quality is very good for the price and I recommend them for anyone looking for this style of headphones.
Customer Review: Much Better Than I Expected Summary: 5 Stars
These earphones do a better job than I expected them to do. I have the Samsung T220HD HDTV Monitor and while the picture is really good, the sound is pretty bad so I have connected the audio out to a very good stereo system and plan on using the earphones when I don't want to use the stereo system.
They came in the mail today and I was surprised and pleased how good they sound. Since I'm a pipe organ fan, and the specs promise 18 to 18,000 cycle response I put one of my favorite pipe organ recordings on to see how the Sennheiser's would do. The pipe organ sounded very good, I was pleased at the reproduction provided by the earphones.
The overall sound is excellent to around 58 cycles and continues to taper off down to around 45 cycles where it starts to seriously fall off. There is some sound down to around 30 cycles but below that there is almost nothing. For earphones costing as little as these do, that is sensational in my opinion.
I really appreciate the cord reel; the extra cord is there if I need it but neatly wrapped out of the way when I don't. I have the earphones on right now and find them to be light and comfortable; I was using a test disc to check frequency response, channel identification and phasing and everything has checked out perfectly. The earphones do a satisfactory job of shutting out outside noises.
Although I've had these earphones for only a few hours, they have made an excellent first impression; I'm excited about being able to listen to music and movies without disturbing anyone else!
Customer Review: Great Value!!! Summary: 5 Stars
While I'm not an audiophile by any means, with age, I'm beginning to appreciate higher quality sound. Compared to my previous experiences with mediocre headphones (run-of-the-mill $20-ish Wal-Mart variety) these 202's completely blow away anything I've ever used before but, incredibly, only cost a few bucks more.
As others have noted, these have very good bass response. So much in fact that I had to turn down the bass on my receiver while watching television. I could see how one might become annoyed with the routine of fiddling with settings but so far I don't mind. If it makes any difference, I didn't might the extra bass while listening to music. I just didn't care for big booming newscasts and sitcoms.
Several reviewers also noted that the 202's were very tight fitting. I'm not calling them liars, as the topic is very subjective, but I have a fairly large head (7 3/4" hat size) and felt very comfortable wearing the Sennheiser's.
I especially appreciated the extra care Sennheiser took in designing the packaging. Very easy to open. No scissors, knives, drills or chainsaws were necessary. Just popped open with my fingers.
All said and done I'm VERY happy with my purchase. In fact I'm considering the purchase of second pair.
BTW, despite the description not mentioning a 1/4" adapter being included, Sennheiser wisely include one as well as a belt clip to take up the slack on the generous cord. Unfortunately I wasted $5 and purchased an extra adapter from Amazon. Please correct the description Amazon!
Customer Review: Great for the price. And designed by the Germans. Summary: 5 Stars
When I received the package and opened it up, my first impression was that they were much cheaper looking than I had hoped. This is mainly due to the one piece 'headband'. But after putting them on, I found them to be really comfortable. Some reviewers wrote about needing a small head and/or ears to wear these comfortably. I must have both, because I thought they fit great. Snug but not too tight, and covered my ears well. The sound is great too. I also have a pair of Sennheiser PX100 headphones and I have to say that they sound slightly better due to their open air design. But the reason I bought these as a secondary pair of headphones is mainly for their 'closed' design. I ride the CTA in Chicago all the time, and with these I don't have to crank the volume up to hear the music like I did with the PX100s. (Which was probably damaging my hearing). Also, I work in a cube-farm office setting, so if I played my music too loud with the PX100s, I'd get the 'stink face' from my disapproving cube neighbor. With these HD 202s, I can crank up the music sans-stink face. I love it. It's taken me a while to get used to the fact that I'm not bothering anyone with music leaking from these 'phones. You could probably rock out to Slayer "turning it up to 11" in church and not disturb anyone. This is what makes these headphones rock. So, in the immortal words of that ShamWOW guy, "They're made by the Germans... you know they make great stuff...." (although they are really made in China, but at least designed by Germans) BUY 'EM! DOIT!
Customer Review: For the normal person Believe the hype. Summary: 5 Stars
I'm not a true audiophile in spending over 60 for a headset but.
For about 30 bucks this is a great deal for a beginner.
They are a great introduction from ear buds to cans.
Comparison to Headphones I've owned previously:
Sennheiser PX-100
I liked the bass on these headphones more.
Sound quality is slightly better than the HD202's
Very comfortable because they are open ear.
Only problem is that they aren't very durable.
Audio-Technica ATH-FC700
These sound on par with the Sennheiser PX-100s.
Big Problems with comfort because of it's circular earpads. (Don't buy these they hurt)
The HD-202's are much more comfortable just because the ear pads are oval shaped.
Audio-Technica ATH-M30
*Tried it out at GuitarCenter. Then I bought it. Didn't like the sound at first.
But after wearing them for about a week they became my favorite headsets out of all
the ones I've listed so far and the HD-202. They are like the best bang for the buck
middle class cans.
Has a thick cord is definitely less portable than the HD-202s.
However the jack is well reinforced. Most headphones I owned the
jack happens to break and I have to resolder...
Very comfortable to wear (gets warm though).
