Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sennheiser HD 202 Dynamic Headphones

Customer Review: A Great Product, worth much more than $50
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had these headphones for about a year now, and I love them. I mainly use them as I commute to school on the train, and I almost never have to turn the volume up above 25%, even for quiet songs; even though they aren't sound canceling. They do a fairly good job of blocking sound, reducing the need to turn the volume up high. In quiet rooms the bass is very nice to listen to, although with the background noise from the train it is difficult to hear.
PORTABILITY As I said before, i take these to school with me on the train. They are rather large to transport in a backpack, and cannot fold any smaller. However, an extremely nice feature which I discovered by accident, is that the ear pieces pop out of the head piece. This makes them very hard to break. Long before enough force is used to break the headphones, the pieces pop apart into three pieces, and thus flatten out to reduce risk of breaking. They are extremely easy to snap back together, and work fine afterwards. I have had the headphones pop out more than 10 times, and it's perfectly fine.
They are comfortable to wear, and produce good sound quality at low volumes so no need to hurt your ears. I also have worn these in rooms with people talking, and on 10% volume I barely hear the voices around me. All this for under $50 is an amazing deal. I admit I have never used very expensive headphones, but beyond adding sound canceling technology and a touch more bass, I can't imagine why anyone would bother to buy anything else.
The cord is also very long, but this is an inconvenience I simply tied the excess in a knot and it doesn't get in the way, and is there when I need it.

I would buy these headphones for everyone I know, and feel good about the purchases.

Customer Review: A very good deal
Summary: 5 Stars

These are not audiophile headphones. However, for the price they are very very good.

I record bands and use 5 pairs of these as monitoring headphones during tracking. I wouldn't mix with them, I definitely wouldn't master with them. They are very enjoyable to listen through and sound great for tracking.

They have a slight harshness around 5 or 6k and a big midrange hole; they have good bass extension and can be cranked very loud. I have burned out a pair of Sony 7506s. I have yet to burn out a pair of HD-202s.

They are extremely light for closed-ear headphones. They work quite well with drummers.

The cords are a pain. They don't self-coil (they come with useless roll-up spool...things..) and they get caught everywhere. They're pretty long. It's like they were cut to professional length, but don't have professional plugs (see below about 1/8")

The cups adjust to head size allright. Nothing to write home about. They just do, and they don't fall apart in the process. That's a winner already for this price.

I don't recommend them for DJ use because the cups don't turn around. (you can't do that cliche one-ear thing too well)

They use a 1/8" inch jack, which is no worse than any other 1/8" jack, but 1/8" jacks tend to be cracklier and flakier than their fatter 1/4" cousins. Adapters don't address the fact that you still have a 1/8" connection in your signal path. This shouldn't really matter if you're just doing consumer stuff.

After 4 years of use one of the wires on one of my pairs broke from stress. I'd say that's pretty darn good for the price and the abuse they went through.

Definitely a diamond in the rough.

Customer Review: Great headphones also great for guitar
Summary: 5 Stars

Everyone here has said everything about these headphones and all of which stand true. They sound great for music and are a steal at $20. But I got them for practicing guitar at night so I can crank it up and not get phone calls from the neighbors.

For that purpose the HD 202's are great. I can turn it up nice and loud and get a nice sound through them. Whether it be a detailed clean or heavy distortion, these provide excellent sound. I hooked them up to my Line 6 amp with the included stereo plug adapter(some reviewers say it isn't included but it is) and they took all the volume I could throw at them and then some. At least, as loud as I could handle. They sound great on all settings and the 10 ft' cord makes them perfect so I can stand back and work the pedals.

I did hook them up to ipod as well though and was very impressed by the bass I heard through them. I used some of my deepest trance and electronica tracks and they handled them easily. They also sounded great when listening to metal and classic rock. They're much better than my in-ear, more expensive ear phones. I'll use these instead from now on for my ipod except at the gym.

They're solidly and stylishly constructed. They don't seem to have any weak spots and the padding on the ears and on top of the head make them very comfortable for long listening periods. I don't see them falling apart from normal wear and tear.

These are great headphones at at great price. I did some shopping around first and they rank far and away the best over others in their price range. It's actually shocking that they're only $20 here at Amazon. Yeah, they're that good. For whatever you want them for, you will not regret buying these.

Customer Review: Victory!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have sensitive ears, I hear a lot, including those high pitches that most people can't hear. They also get hurt easily by some of my other headsets and don't fit earbuds. They're just funny ears.
But these? They make me GLAD I can hear so much. I've heard things in songs crisper and clearer than any other headset I've owned- even my set of supposedly HD koss phones that I bought for the same price as these, even though I usually rather supportative of the koss brand.

Listening to music in these has become more than obsession with me. It makes my brain FEEL GOOD! I used the iDFX upconverter on some songs and just sat back and enjoyed the world. All of my favourite songs are pleasurable to listen to on a whole new level.

They are very comfortable, too. They're light and well padded. I even feel asleep in them once, which also says something for the durability, as they are still just fine. The cable was also long enough to reach from behind my pc to my bed with some remaining give. They're a bit too large to wear to work and they block out too much noise to wear outside (not sound canceling headphones, but they are thick and crisp enough that you don't need to add that annoying wave to it) for safety's sake, but at home, they remain always plugged in and music playing.
Now, the bass seems a little heavy on these headphones from time to time. Moreso than usual, but some people find this a plus. It is listed as a perk in the description, after all, but most quality headphones have that.
There could be better balance between bass and treble, but for this price, It's still a great deal.

Any low-budget Audiophile or music-enjoying person should have a pair of these.

Customer Review: Great headphones!
Summary: 5 Stars

I work for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and want to preserve my own hearing, so stayed away for ear buds. I do however love my music and wanted a quality set of headphones that would enable bass and treble sound distinction. I am in heaven with these and so glad to have upgraded from the cheaper headsets that broke within a few months of use. Also I needed a pair that could take the beating of walking several miles per day and these definitely hold up. Although I will note that you will get incredibly hot while using these during a workout. Also the cord is very long and slightly clumsy in wrapping around the clip provided. Other than that, it is great. I also want to mention that while walking, I am so lost in the music that I have to make a concerted effort to be aware of surroundings. I walk 5 dogs on leash simultaneously so they alert me to cars etc. So if you walk along...take extra precaution to stay aware of your physical environment while the music takes you away. I did not have this issue with the cheaper headphones but that just speaks for the sound quality and isolation factor.

I have been moved to a point of tears with some of the music coming since getting these headphones and love the transport from reality to music land. I wear these while cleaning and the soundtrack of Dreamgirls gets me through vacuuming the entire house.

I would suggest that you try size before purchasing. These fit me perfectly but I wonder how they will feel with the husband. Time will tell. We mistakenly ordered this twice and have ended up with 4 pair. I will keep them and already have a use for 2 pair. Husband gets the other two....unless I get greedy. Good luck with your purchase.
