Customer Review: Best pair of headphones I have ever bought
Summary: 5 Stars

I would just like to say that I'm disappointed at how long it took Amazon to deliver these. It took a week and a half to get them :(

I was very excited to get these headphones because I listen to music all the time and I was getting tired of my old Sony headphones. I got these for $20 from Amazon and I am very pleased. The box is very nice and it comes with a belt clip spool to wrap the 10 foot cable around (kind of useless, I don't like it) and a 1/4 adapter to plug in to stereo equipment. I'm glad they included this, now I can use these headphones on my guitar amp. :)

When I first got them, the first thing I noticed was how comfortable they were. The cushions go on top of your ears, but not around them (they're supraural headphones, not circumaural). They go over my ears perfectly and they are extremely comfortable. I used to own Sony MDR-V150 headphones where the cushions were shaped like circles where as the Sennheiser have an oval shape. The Sony ones would hurt my ears after extended amounts of time but I sometimes forget I'm wearing the Sennheisers. They're not that heavy and I can't stress enough how comfortable they are.

The first time I used them they were very tinny and had no bass whatsoever. Don't be disappointed right away. You have to "break in" these headphones before they really shine. What I did to speed up this process was play some rock music with the volume at 100% overnight. The next day I noticed they sounded much better and every day they sound even better. I use these headphones for rock music mostly, and I notice things in the music that I have never noticed before. The bass is powerful but not so powerful that it distorts. One of my albums has a lot of bass and it would distort on my old headphones and even my Logitech 5.1 speaker system. On these headphones it sounds nice and crisp.

These headphones are also very good for gaming. The headphones do a very good job of blocking outside noise so you won't hear anything except the headphones. People around you might find it annoying that you can't hear them but it may be a plus ;)

I fully recommend buying these headphones if you're in the market for "high range" headphones but don't want to spend a fortune. They sound great, look great, and are extremely comfortable. Highly recommended!

Customer Review: Not uncomfortable for big heads like some have said.
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been looking for new headphones for a while. I ended up buying a pair from Sony that turned out to be terrible. Sennheiser is known for their sound quality but has always been out of my pricerange, but these are a nice economical set from them. I was a little hesitant because I read one or two negative reviews from people stating that they found the headphones too tight on their heads and gave them headaches. I have an above-average sized noggin too so this would apply to me, but after looking around more, I couldn't find anything with great ratings for sound quality in a price I can afford so I took a gamble and ordered these.

Let me tell you, I think the guy that uploaded the photo of the headphones where the ear muffs touched and were too tight to put on his head, I think he got a rare defective one, because mine while resting the muffs are close but don't touch and they are not at all too tight to put on, even for my head. So for those of you who are unsure about these headphones for that reason, I don't believe it's an issue with all of them. I think that guy got one that was made a little differently or something.

The ear muffs are comfortable because they are big to where the cushion rests around your ears, they don't actually push onto your ears like most of these style headphones tend to do. Those would eventually make my ears ache. These go comfortable around the ears so I haven't had that issue with these yet. Also another plus to that is the noise isolation. They aren't technically noise cancelling because there's no active noise cancellation system, but it is a passive noise cancellation in that the cushion blocks out most outside noises to just a light muffle in the background. So very good to fully immerse yourself in your music or your gaming.

The bass response is very good, although unless my sound equalizer is a little off, I do think the treble is slightly lacking, but not by much. These are definitely far superior to the Sony headphones I had. Those were downright muffled, they sounded like I was listening to music under water while the sounds are clear on these. A nice little touch is the cushion on the top of the headband. The ones without that don't really bother me, but it does feel more comfortable with the extra cushion.

Customer Review: Underpriced Great Quality Headphones

Sennheiser HD 202 Dynamic Headphones

If you're an audiophile (or even if you know what an audiophile is) then you're probably wasting your time reading this review. But, if you're like me, just someone who loves listening to music without outside influence, i.e. ambient noise, by all means read on.

As much as I love the joyful, and sometimes not so joyful, sounds of family, the occasional passionate exchange of opposing views with my wife, (especially when I'm on the receiving end), and a good movie or television program, my refuge lies in the solitude of music. Solitude being the operative word here. That much sought-after beautiful isolation evaded me until I purchased the Sennheiser HD 202 headphones.

In the four days I've had them, I've managed to listen, without interruption, to the music on my iPod and computer. And, even as I write this review, judging by the angry expression on my blushing bride's beautiful face, the rapid movement of her lips, and some pretty aggressive-looking body language, I'd say these headphones have more than earned the five stars I've given them. With any luck at all, I'll go completely deaf before I have to take them off and face the music of life.

The only other 4.5 star-rated headphones that I saw on Amazon were made by Bose (I'm sure my wife preferred my old Bose headphones over the Sennheiser HD 202's, since I never missed a word she uttered while I was wearing the Bose cans), and they were almost ten times the cost of the HD 202's. The sound quality of the HD 202 headphones is beautiful; the leatherette ear pads are soft and well cushioned; the adjustable headband is lightweight and the crown padding feels great on my follicle-deficient pate; the included belt-clip/cord take-up is a nice additional touch; and they're made for indoor and outdoor use to boot.

And so, at the risk of missing some annoying telemarketing calls, shrieking fire alarms, angry neighbor dogs barking, loud train whistles blaring, and what appear to be some pretty angry spousal verbalizations over being ignored, I'm keeping my Sennheiser HD 202 headphones. They're everything Sennheiser says they are!

Customer Review: Sennheisers for $20? You've got to be kidding!
Summary: 5 Stars

That's exactly what I though when I first saw these cans on Amazon. How can the makers of $500+ headphones (HD650) sell headphones for $20? At first I thought it was a marketing tactic to penetrate the low end market with sub-standard headphones.

I was wrong!

These headphones are just what you would expect from Sennheiser! Crisp clear sound, full-bodied bass, razor sharp trebles, and mellow mid-ranges. From a style point of view, they are sexy. In fact, I think they make you look more sophisticated than the $500 HD650 that makes you look a little like Princess Leia. Bold matte black finish with leather-like (for this price you didn't expect REAL leather did you?) ear pads. The brand "SENNHEISER" proudly shows on the outside of the head-band. I could wear these in a public setting and I bet NOBODY would guess they're $20 headphones!

Some quirks I noticed:
the ear pads are designed a little smaller than normal and they DO press against the ears. I have small ears and they still press against them. But they don't feel uncomfortable, so I'm not taking any points off my review for this. However, extended use may cause some discomfort (I'm guessing here, since I never listen to music over an hour).

The cord is also a little too long for me (3 meters). Granted, these are designed for DJ use and if you intend to use them far away from your audio equipment, this may be a positive feature. But for everyday iPod listening, be extra careful you don't trip over the cord, because they are so long, they bunch up on the ground. Sennheiser included a nice cord wrap thingy where you can wrap the cord but I chose not to use them since the "cord catch" is rather sharp and when I first tried it, it slightly damaged the cord lining. Its also too big and bulky for my taste, but they do provide a belt clip with this cord wrap, so it may be perfect for DJs, who walk around and may need to constantly adjust the cord length.

But overall, the quirks I mentioned are nothing compared to the overall value of this item. Hey, for $20, you can get a couple Sennhesiers for each member of your family, so nobody will borrow yours!

Bravo Sennheiser and Bravo Amazon for giving us such a superior value!

Customer Review: Great sound & great isolation for the price
Summary: 5 Stars

I now own two pairs of HD 202s, having used one pair for about a year now at school and recently purchased a second pair for home. I use them primarily with my iPods (first- and fourth-generation).

These headphones provide excellent sound, especially for the price. They have a strong though not overbearing bass response (by comparison, a pair of HD 457s gave the bass too much weight for my taste - most music felt unbalanced). With the iPod, I find that the 202s sound best with one of the equalizer settings that doesn't pump up the bass too much. I listen to a wide variety of music, including opera, bluegrass, classical, rock, lo-fi, and find that the headphones handle all of them well.

A strong point, for me, is these headphones' abilitiy to isolate me from ambient noise. In the small classroom where I work, five other students are often talking or using relatively noisy hand tools; I find that the 202s do an excellent job attenuating the noise and let me focus on the work in front of me. While they don't have active noise cancelling, I find that they even work fairly well on Boston's notoriously old and noisy subways; with the 202s, I don't have to turn the volume up quite so loud to block out the noise of the train.

Some reviewers have commented on the fit of the headphones. I have not had any discomfort from either pair, even after several hours' use. These headphones do, however, grip the head somewhat tightly compared with other phones. I wear glasses with fairly flexible temple pieces and haven't had trouble with the phones pressing too much.* (They even, in a pinch, make decent ear warmers, fitting over my ears just about perfectly on chilly days.)

Overall, the sound that comes from these headphones is crisp and powerful, even from an iPod, and at around $20, they're quite a bargain.

* Update, 2008: After getting new glasses with stiffer temple pieces, I did find that these headphones became a bit uncomfortable after a while. If you don't wear glasses, I think these are still a great deal. If you do wear glasses, I recommend Shure E2c in-ear headphones, which also deliver excellent sound isolation (though they are a bit more expensive than these Sennheisers).
