Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sennheiser EH-150 Dynamic Sound Evolution Hi-Fi Stereo HeadphonesCustomer Review: Excellent, but Read the Reviews Before you Purchase! Summary: 5 Stars
I own four pairs of Sennheiser headphones: PX 100 (first generation), these, the HD 201, and HD 238. In terms of sound quality - these rank right up there with the PX 100s, having a quieter, maybe even a more balanced sound, but they do not handle bass as well. The HD 201s are like toys to me, and the HD 238 are an utter disappointment compared to the PX 100s. Now PAY ATTENTION because although so many of these reveiws speak about the shortcomings of these phones, folks still buy them expecting perfection, then give them a poor rating; make an informed purchasing decision.
1. These are not designed for use with portable devices, hence the very long cord. I do use them with my Sony and Samsung MP3 players, but certainly, they are more suitable for a home stereo setup due to the cord's legnth. I have never used them as such since I am an MP3 player fan.
2. These are a TIGHT FIT WITH A SMALL EAR PAD SURFACE! I am a woman of 5'2 with proportionate ear size - actually some say that I have small ears - and these barely fit me, with some adjusting when I put them on. So know that once on, they will hug your ears very snuggly to uncomfortably (maybe even painfully for some) depending on what you like!
3. That said, you are not going to spend many hours in these (unless you like this feel and/or have very small ears), but the time that you DO spend in these you will enjoy!
4. If you have other headphones that you like, I suggest that you go to Sennheiser's website and do a specs comparison. I did this before buying these - already had the PX 100s - and doing that along with reviews here let me know what to expect from the sound quality. In fact, If I remember correctly, they have the EXACT same audio specs as the much-raved-about HD 202s. I have not been let down by these. I use these to primarily listen to R/B, sometimes some Latin Jazz - and trust me, it is all smiles for me when I do.
5. Now, although I read about the tight and somewhat uncomfortable fit, I went ahead an bought them anyway because of the Sennheiser sound and because, I lie to you not, I paid $6.00 or so for these here at Amazon about a year and a half ago. Someone was selling refurbished Sennheisers and this is how I got these and the 201s. At that price, I could not go wrong, even though I did not expect much of the 201s. I had to at least try them. Both pairs came in a clear plastic bag with Sennheiser labeling - looked and sounded new right from the start. So certainly, these were worth purchasing even with the criticism about the comfort.
6. Re: sound quality, yes, these are worth much more, but you will have to decide for yourself if you want to pay more money and risk the discomfort of these phones. I do not use these often since the 100s and 238s are more suitable for PMPs. But when I am home, I do switch between these three phones just for variety. Perhaps if I did use them more, they would stretch out a bit. Knowing what I do know about these, I would pay $40 or so for them. This is not to say that they are not worth more, but for my needs and their tight fit, I would not want to spend more on them. But for what I paid for them, the sound quality, and when/how I use them, they are more than a five-star product to me.
Customer Review: I've added specs. Best headphones under $50. Summary: 5 Stars
The Sennheiser EH-150 came in its easy to open plastic packaging. It is designed and engineered in Germany, and made in China.
It has four countries on the back of the packaging: UK, German, French, and Espania. Interstingly, no American flag, which led me to believe that they don't sell the headphones in the United States except online (or at least this version of the product).
I will share exactly what specs are issued with my EH 150 stereo headphones: There are only 5:
Frequency - 18,000 Hz (Good lows for sleeping videos)
Impedance (propagation of sound ohms
SPL (at 1 KHz, dB
And there are some few comments on the back next to these stats and my comments are after:
"Closed, circumaural design for great attenuation of ambient noise."
"Powerful neodymium magnets and lightweight diaphragms for strong bass performance and precise treble." {Good bass. When listening to sleep video's, sometimes you can hear recorded motor traffic, and the bass is so realistic that I have to take off my headphones.}
"Ultra-lightweight, rugged design for comfortable, extended listening pleasure." {yes it is, compared with philips stereo headphone SBC HP170. The philips hurt the tops of my ears and irritated them. The EH-150 close around my ear and only the cushion pillows against them. But, like all headphones, I'm sure there is a point of exhaustion against them)
It comes with a 1/4" adapter to plug into your reciever.
I've bought skullcandy headphones and sony headphones and my old favorite philips and none of them produce music and sounds like the Sennheiser EH-150. I haven't found anything better under 50 dollars.
Customer Review: AWESOME sound for one hell of a price! Summary: 5 Stars
[...]Pros
- STELLAR bass response and i do mean stellar. Feels like it does when I'm bumping music in my 5.1 in my 2007 Focus SES.
- Great sounds all around, very rich and dynamic compared to the multitude of walmart and best buy offers around $20. Call of Duty 4 on my 360 sounds just as good as it does on my home theater and my setup is no pussy cat.
- Good sound dampening from the outside. Ever sit next to the girl at work with the annoying laugh that splits through your music? These will kill that without destorying your hearing.
- Great volume boost; i thought maybe my zune was weak or something sound wise with the headphones i was using, not the case with these, at all. At 10, the halfway vol setting, it's plenty loud even for those of us who like their music LOOOUUUUDDDD like me :)
Cons
- Wearing headphones for about 9 hours a day is going to irritate your ears regardless but due to the design of these i almost have to slide in my ears a certain and have the phones sitting just right to avoid the agitation, and even then it eventually comes. But bear in mind, 9 hours + and constatnly. But with such rich sound i can deal with it, no sweat.
- The head band thing doesn't adjust, just the phones, not really a con per say but it may be an issue with some people.
OVERALL
- Great set of headphones, may not be ideal for long periods of time for wear BUT i'll be damned if these aren't the best sounding phones i've had and I consider myself to be a bit of an audipphile and hardcore music enthusiast. If you need something for pro-longed use, say over 5 hours straight i would get a larger model but would stay with Sennheiser. I've gone through varios brands such as pohillips, sony etc, the only mfc that could hold a candle to these would be a $300 pair of Aiwa ones i had and these outshine those in nearly every aspect.
Bottom line, get a Zune (Zunes rock - much better than my old Ipod, first gen 30 GB's are dropping in price everywhere!!!!!), get these headphones, and immerse yourself in musical bliss!
Customer Review: Found my Headphones finally! Summary: 5 Stars
Great sound, small size and simple design headphones.
I went through a dozen of headphones/earphones starting from cheap and upto very expensive ones Sennheiser HD-590 and Shure e3c.
In my experience, this is only one capable to deliver right amount of bass and the rest of the spectrum.
Funny thing, more expensive headphones get -> less and less bass you will get out of them and more and more treble. Boosting bass only creates more distortion, but no bass (as you would expect).
Another thing to consider: audio source. CD and MP3 are low quality sources with many digital artifacts that distort sound, sometimes pretty bad. More expensive headphones will only add more fire by accurately reproducing all of the imperfections.
In EH-150 case, these imperfections are not noticeable.
Digital imperfections are compensated by EH-150 imperfections. A final result yields pleasant experience even with low quality audio sources.
Reviews sometimes are very misleading. The best way, try to hear headphones first before buying.
EH-150 shares same cons with another closed type headphones (by design).
I know my hearing frequency range : 30 HZ ... 14,000 HZ. EH-150 fits and delivers to "my specs" perfectly.
Although, many who claimed 5 - 38,000 HZ, sounded more like 80 - (only God knows) HZ.
PS:
If you have pro audio store near you like SamAsh - Take some effort and visit this store. They have a rack of ~ 50 pro studio headphones hooked up to top quality audio gears. You will find the ones you like, guaranteed! Because you know exactly what you just purchased - it will save you trouble of any disappointment and following return hassle.
I glad I listen to my friend (pro) advise. Now I have headphones, I am completely satisfied with.
BTW, I fell for legendary SONY MDR7506 professional studio monitor headphones and the good part it is - it was only $99:-)
Good Luck!
Customer Review: Amazing headphones. Summary: 5 Stars
These headphones are hands down a great buy. I purchased these around two months ago and have had no problems in the least. They are very durable, I have found this out from accidentally tripping on the cord, also by my younger brother sit on them when they were in my backpack. So they are reliable.
For sound quality, for under $50 I doubt that they can be beat. I purchased mine off amazon for $25 but would've been willing to pay full price. The bass is very resonant and supportive, and mids do not suffer as in a lot of other cheaper headphones. The trebles are all clean and crisp. If the balances of these are not to your liking, equalizers on either an mp3 player or computer can take care of them. They will improve your listening experience with all genres of music, given you play with some eq settings a bit. They bring out things in your music that unless you have had $200 plus headphones will probably not have heard before.
The discomfort that people have complained about is there but isn't noticeable for several hours, unless you have very large ears. A slight shift will fix that also. But be very aware of imitators. If you aren't going to buy from amazons primary store, check Sennheiser's website/customer support to make sure they are qualified dealers or you may be ripped off.
I am very passionate about music and will soon be entering collage to major in music education. My musical background has included running sound at my church, playing tuba since sixth grade, and recently bass guitar, and have been the principle chair in our wind ensemble in high school for the past 2 years. So i have used my ears a very long time in reference to the intricacies in music. I just hope you believe me when I say that these are well worth your money.
