Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sennheiser CX300-B In-Ear Stereo HeadphoneCustomer Review: Awesome Headphones!!! Summary: 5 Stars
Unlike most people, I don't use stock headphones, the ear buds don't stay in my ears well at all. So, I am stuck with some over the head ones and some clip-on ones. Well I wanted some noise muffling like headphones for the plane. Haven't had them on the plane yet but from my testing already they will do wonderfully. At first when you get them in they seem to let noise in but after playing music a bit for a minute then you get a good fit and all outside noise seems to drown away. Loud fans are low and distant, close small fans are non-existent and the computer is not even there as well. I can hardly hear my roommate when he is talking directly to me in slightly above normal voice (he is very loud normally).
The nature of my job is that I use in the ear- ear plugs with Nrr33 all the time, I can't use anything lower than 30! This means that I am use to how these headphones feel and operate. Yes you will hear yourself breath and swallow, but it is not that bad. I can't even tell because I am used to it!!! These headphones have pretty close to my regular Nrr 33. I would say 20-25 depending on fit. They are not a substitute for proper hearing protectors in loud environments and in places that require your attention they can be dangerous. They don't annoy me, but take some time to find a proper fit, I thought I had it down and had to change now to both big and am happy. I had to go with both big ones probably due to the in the ear earplugs at work making my canals bigger. Sometimes you may have different sizes for each ear, everyone is different!
The bass sounds awesome!!! The vocals and different instruments are clear, this is just as expected in Sennheiser quality. There wasn't that much of difference for me as I usually use my computer with a great soundcard and good headphones so the quality wasn't that different but still the number of extra things you hear with these phones is amazing. I can't believe what the stock people change is like, it must be euphoria!
The left plug shorter cable (asymmetric) didn't bother me much at all and the cable doesn't make that much noise like other reviewers said. It is just like having ear plugs in. I will be glad to wear these on a plane. Jet noise is sort-of bad for your ears and these will take it down to tolerable levels and soon as you hit the music in it will probably be gone. Just keep the music low as these are louder than most headphones and any bit of hearing saved is good. I had my computer music on through 200+ watt speakers almost as loud (not recommended for long term hearing) as they would go and sitting in front of them with these on listening to mp3 player and could listen to my music in peace, the bass only interfered but not that much!!!
These are an incredible value and will stay in nicely. Ditch the stock uncomfortable earbuds and pick up these in the ear headphones and re-appreciate your music again.
Customer Review: Excelent music device Summary: 5 Stars
This is my first experience with the IEM technology. I got them to replace the "earbuds" that came with my IAudio G3 which I found to be very unconfortable and actually very painful to wear. After quite a bit of research on various headphone forums and of music hardware reviews I decided to take a chance on the Senn CX300's. I have had them for a few weeks now and they are the greatest little devices since flash MP3 players themselves.
Through my research I discovered that the ear tips were interchangeable with IEMs from other manufacturers such as Sony, Shure, and Ultimate Ears (ear tips are sold separately by various vendors including the just mentioned manufacturers). Although they sound and fit great right out of the box, experimentation with different ear tips will provide you with the ideal fit, comfort, and sound response -- since everyone has unique ear shapes, sensitivity, and tastes for sound frequency response. I think they fit and sound best for me with shapable foam tips although I'm still experimenting with various tips. Some people complain that the CX300's have too much bass or not enough bass ... I have learned that all IEMs require you take the time to fit them into your ear canal just right in order to get the frequency response that these devices are capable of. Another often cited complaint is the "J" style cord ... the left side is half as short as the right before they merge together. I think the purpose of this style is to wear the cord behind your ears and around the back of your neck in order to minimize the "stethoscope" noise characteristic of all IEMs where the cord may rub against your clothes and tranfer a low rumble noise to your ears. I have not found this to be a big problem fo me unless there is a silent pause from my IEMs while I'm also moving around a lot. I have read that some are able to further minimize this rumble by using a clip like those used for IEM/microphones that come with cell phones.
The price appears to vary here on Amazon anywhere from just under $40 to just under $60 ... so make your purchase accordingly. Regardless, I would value them over $80 since they provided me with exactly what I was looking for. They are very light weight and compact, they are very comfortable, they do a good job of isolating outside noise from getting in and an even better job of keeping music from leaking out, and they sound awsome, -- which works great for my bus commute to and from the office. From what I have read on various forums, there is a significant diminishing return when purchasing more expensive IEMs and have read posts from people that have made actual comparisons that the CX300's have a surperior sound response to the more expensive Shure E2c and the Ultimate Ears Super.Fi 3 IEMs. I would highly recomend the CX300 IEMs. Just make sure to take the time to fit them correctly into your ears before making a final evaluation.
Customer Review: Sennheiser cx300 Vs V-Moda Bass Freq Vs Bose In-Ear Buds Summary: 5 Stars
A quick review and comparison for 3 ear buds. The first thing that is the most important factor is price; therefore most of my analysis will be based on a price ratio.
Comfort
Each of these ear buds were basically the same in terms of comfort, however the Bose ear buds may have a slight advantage in this category due to the uniqueness of its in ear yet out of the ear design. There is a more sound isolation in the Sennheiser and vibe ear buds, and between these two ear buds I give Sennheiser a slight advantage in comfort.
Sound Quality
All of these ear buds have exponential sound quality and PLEASE get one of these if you're using the ipod ear buds or some other cheap generic buds. You will not regret it! Personally I listen to a lot of bass heavy music such as hip hop. I believe that your satisfaction depends on the type of music you listen to. If you like rap, hip hop, r&b then I would recommend the Vibe Bass Freqs Ear Buds. You will be amazed by the deepness, "thump" of the bass and yet the bass doesn't muffle out the high end. The Bose ear buds may have equal or slightly better deepness but not the same "thump". However I think that these ear buds have bad high ends due to the bass.
The Sennheiser is unqiue because it have amazing high ends, and yet almost equal bass of the Vibe Bass Freqs and Bose in ear buds. The Sennheiser is a great mix for people who listen to a wide variety of music. Overall I would recommend them over the others. However, if your looking for the best ear buds for bass (rap, hip hop) then go with the Vibe Bass Freqs.
Now looking in terms of price, the Vibes and the Sennheiser are basically the same in price about $25. If your on a budget, then the Vibes are a little cheaper (see Durability) and is the best value for the dollar (barely). The worst is definitely the Bose, even though Bose is great company and brand name, they are way over priced for the given sound quality. If you're highly considering Bose, just give Sennheiser a try first.
Durability
The best durability is from Sennheiser, and the worst is from Vibe Base ( I went through 2 before I bought Sennheiser). Bose is in the middle (mine broke after a year). Bose's ear buds will always pop off and you will probably lose them. The same can go with Vibe, Sennheiser doesn't have that problem.
Overall
1. Sennheiser cx300 ( great blend of high and low ends)
2. Vibe Freq Bass ( very close to #1 due to the better bass)
3. Bose in ear (too expensive for same sound quality and bad high ends)
Also, Sennheiser has great bass, not at the same level as the Vibe.
Customer Review: Great Earbuds at a Great Price Summary: 5 Stars
I'm no audiophile, but I seriously doubt that you'll find better earbuds in this price range. I see that some people have been critical of these when used during exercise/activity. I don't think this type of earbud is intended/marketed for use during exercise/activity, so it's not fair to rate them on that basis, since there are headphones out there that are specifically marketed to the active person. (Note that the asymmetrical cord is meant to go around the back of your neck, rather than the front, so that when you take the earbuds out, they don't fall to the ground.) That said, my husband & I gave each other an iPod Touch 2G for our anniversary. I gave him these earbuds with his iPod. He gave me a pair of Pioneer earbuds. I immediately compared the sound of the Pioneer earbuds to the Sennheisers. No comparison! The Pioneer earbuds were a huge disappointment! I needed to listen to the Pioneers on a louder volume, but they lacked base, and the music was full of static. My husband has some permanent hearing loss, and can't hear some wavelengths, but even he could hear the difference. The Sennheisers have nice base and clarity, although if you're a basehead, I suppose that it's possible to find earbuds with more base. I don't need the base to overwhelm all of my music like a teenager breaking the decibel ordinance driving down the main drag. The Sennheisers provide a richer, deeper, truer sound with nice highs and lows (though, I'm no sound techie). My only concern is that the earbud style (common to any brand of earbud) blocks out ambient sound TOO WELL. I wouldn't want to be wearing these in a public park, on the subway, or walking downtown in a metropolitan area, for example. Being insulated from the sounds around me would make me feel unsafe, not to mention that most of the time, I'm taking care of my 3-year-old, and even if I'm listening to music, I need to be able to hear her in order to keep her safe. I guess that's why they make speakers with iPod docking stations, but those aren't really portable. The sound quality of these are great, but I do wish I could find some good quality, drop-in style earbuds that come in a smaller size to fit my smaller ears, rather than the typical one-size-fits-all drop-ins like the Apple earbuds that come with the iPod, because in many situations, it's good to be able to hear ambient sounds, even while you're listening to music. If you're looking for economically-priced, compact earbuds with great sound, you can't go wrong with these. I immediately replaced my Pioneer earbuds with a pair of these. These would probably be great for watching movies on a portable DVD player during a long flight, too.
Customer Review: Outstanding Earbuds - Highly Recommend Summary: 5 Stars
I highly recommend these earbuds to anyone on a budget. I didn't have a lot to spend (less than $30) and have purchased many in this price range from local stores such as Philips, Sony, and JVC. Without a doubt or hesitation I can say these are the best overall earbuds I have ever used. For reference I have a Microsoft Zune 80GB as my portable media player. Let me go through the points:
Comfort:
- These earbuds fit perfectly into my ears. They come with two additional earbud sizes to customize them to your ears, but I did not need them.
- They are very light and have a low profile. When placed in my ears, they hardly extend out past my earlobes and stay clear of everything.
Sound Quality:
-The fit and noise isolation of these headphones means that I can actually hear my music versus the world around me. I was VERY surprised at how well external sound was blocked. You may not approve but I use these earbuds while riding and the road noise and wind are now virtually non-existent. I no longer have to run my Zune at ¾ volume or more just to hear the music. Outstanding.
- I am not an audio snob, hence the use of a Zune and the Zune Pass music, but they sound great to me. Maybe a touch soft on the low end but otherwise perfect.
Durability:
- Can't really rate yet. They are fairly new still. No issues so far.
Cord Length:
- I am 5'10 and I can comfortably have my Zune in my jean pocket without issue. They cord is the wrap around type such that one earbud cord is longer than the other. Works well for me.
Value for Money:
- Outstanding. I have paid more for earbuds at local retailers that do not fit as well, isolate sound as well, or deliver such smooth sound. These come from a reputable manufacturer and are greatly priced.
Style:
- They are small, light, and fit snugly into my ear. The black earbuds and cord are subtle and look very well made.
Packaging:
- Umm, to me this thing was harder to get open than Fort Knox. Blister packs are hateful but I understand why they are necessary. I might have missed the "Easy Open" tab, but basically I had to get a torch and some TNT to get these things out of their package. Other than the super secure package, it was fine.
Item Design:
- Again, they fit GREAT, isolate sound wonderfully, sound fine, and are an amazing value.
If you are looking for a replacement set of earbuds for your iPod or Zune or whatever, I would highly recommend these. They are an amazing value and I am going to purchase another set for my wife. What are you waiting for?
