Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sennheiser CX 400-B Lightweight In-Ear Stereo HeadphoneCustomer Review: Amazing sound, tight bass Best You can get for under 60$ Summary: 5 Stars
I got my Sennheiser CX 400's today to replace a pair of Vmoda Bass Freq's. I'd like to start with construction.
Construction:
The buds use a high quality well made plastic enclosure, and top of the line rubber cabling. The jacks are sturdy and also top quality. My only gripe about the build is there is no easy way to remove these from your ears.. Unlike the Vmoda these buds don't have a plastic extension to grab to pull them from your ear canal. Not a huge issue as I think they will still hold up quite well. Cord length is great for me as I use n Ipod strapped to my arm. Running the cors through my sleeve to the player keeps the buds nice and secure. The included extension cable will work for anyone who hip mounts there audio player, but adds a fair amount of weight to the cable, again not a huge issue for someone walking around, or after using the included cable clip. To anyone who dislikes the cord break / extension feature I would recommend the cx300's as I believe they are identical in sound quality.
Comfort:
I assume I have your average run of the mill ear as most ear canal type buds fit me pretty well out of the box with the medium sized silicon sleeve. These where no different. The buds fit extremely well, are easy to place and incredible comfortable. If it wasn't for the cord touching my earlobe or side of my face I'd forget I was wearing them. These should be great for hours of comfortable use. I am a runner and judging by the initial fit and weight these should have no problem on the track. I also noticed another benefit to not having the small plastic (Ill label them grabs). You can lay your head down on a pillow without altering the position of the buds, great for anyone into binaural tones or listening to music to get to sleep.
Sound Isolation:
Sound isolation is as expected from any well fitting ear canal bud. Once in and at low to medium volume the rest of the world is completely drowned out.
Sound:
Now, onto the sound. Absolutely top quality sound. The bass in these buds far outclasses the Vmoda's. It is tight, clean, punchy bass. The Vmoda and most other high intensity bass buds / phones tend to have sloppy, loose bass, as well as sacrificed sound quality in the mids and highs. The mids and highs on the cx400's is clean and well modeled. The highs can be a little noisy, but mine are still breaking in. There is no sacrifice in the sound quality across the spectrum at all and you would be hard pressed to find another pair in the sub 100$ price mark that sounds as good.
