Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Seagate ST302504FDA1E1-RK FreeAgent Desktop 250 GB 3.5" USB 2.0 External Hard Drive

Customer Review: Good Product
Summary: 5 Stars

After the crash of my computer's hard drive, I was encouraged by my tech to purchase an external hard drive to back up my files. After reviewing several drives, I chose this one. It works great. Easy to install and up and running in no time. Takes up almost no space on my desk and the lightbar in front lets me know it is always available. My computer holds hundreds of photos that I would hate to lose so this drive gives me another level of security. P.S. the tech was able to salvage all but one corrupted file. Lucky me.

Customer Review: Speedy, attractive, great value
Summary: 5 Stars

The falling prices and increasing speed of external hard drives make for great values like this unit. The upright design is practical and, at least in my opinion, very attractive. Time will tell as to reliability, but the five-year warranty is reassuring. It is true, as another reviewer noted, that it has no power switch. However, the drive powers down automatically (or at least goes into some kind of standby mode) when the computer is turned off or put in standby mode. I prefer that approach myself to a power switch.

Customer Review: Good deal on good product
Summary: 5 Stars

I've bought a total of 5 of these external hard drives in the past month or so. The prices are low enough that I now use a dedicated hard drive as my 'safe' backup for various files I keep on my computer's hard drive. These drives work seamlessly right out of the box with Windows XP Home. I like the light bar which reminds me to disconnect the hard drive after making a backup. Writing and reading speeds are fine using a USB2 hookup from the desktop computer to the Freeagent hard drive.

Customer Review: So easy to use!
Summary: 5 Stars

I recently bought a Maxtor external hard drive for my office and although someone else set it up, it took up two usb ports on our server (one for power and one for data transfer). I set up this Seagate drive myself on my laptop and it was so easy - truly just 4 steps. It backs up my whole computer every night and I never have to think about it. I got twice as much memory for only a few more dollars and only needed 1 usb port. Literally, anyone could set this drive up themselves.

Customer Review: Nice hard drive for backing up files
Summary: 5 Stars

I recently purchased this item to back-up my media files and important documents before a reformat. The drive performed exactly as I expected it to. Transfer rates were good, and I thought it was a pretty solid price for 250 GB. Case looks nice with the amber light too, if that is a concern, and it runs fairly silently. Usually I just use a drive I have lying around with an external enclosure, but I didn't have anything big enough just lying around. All-in-all, a good buy.
