Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Seagate ST302504FDA1E1-RK FreeAgent Desktop 250 GB 3.5" USB 2.0 External Hard Drive

Customer Review: Seagate ST302504FDA1E1-RK
Summary: 5 Stars

This product was purchased over four months ago and I'm glad to report that it has performed as hoped. I had read reviews that say this drive performed badly but I had purchased Seagate hard drives before and felt comfortable with them.
I'm using this hard drive as part of my security system to record seven days of surveillance of two cameras that are connected to my business PC. This means that this hard drive is operating 24-7. It is located away from the PC in an area where there is not much ventilation. You might ask why I have it set up like this? Simple, I'm afraid that if I have a break in thieves would easily steal the PC and all the surveillance information inside it's hard drive. This set up would allow the PC to be stolen but I would still keep the information and the thieve's identity in the hidden external drive. I also have scheduled back ups of my important data.
In a nutshell....I don't think you can do any better than this.

Customer Review: Amazing external HDD
Summary: 5 Stars

I was looking for an easy-to-use USB 2.0 external drive and came across this one amongst the slew of drives available out there, which I ordered after reading the largely positive reviews. As soon as the drive arrived, I was sold on it: The packaging was solid, setup was a breeze (instantly recognized by Ubuntu and Windows XP) and the speeds are far beyond what I expected.

Since I tend to experiment with different operating systems, burning all your vital data to DVDs gets extremely taxing and wasteful. The Seagate FreeAgent managed to backup 10GB of data in around 3 minutes, which caps out the practical maximum USB2 speed quite well. It also streams videos and music without any hitches or lags. The drive itself looks neat on any desktop setup and turns itself off automatically when your PC powers down.

All in all, a speedy and attractive external that's highly recommended!

Customer Review: Works with Vista (Hallelujah)
Summary: 5 Stars

My main concern was getting this to work with Vista. I made the mistake of upgrading my computer when Vista was new and have had a terrible time with hard drives (SATA). But this worked immediately out of the box, was recognized and can be used with the software that comes with it just fine. In fact, I prefer to use Windows back up. It also works with Ubuntu Linux 7.10 with no problems. It is quiet and small and I have not, as a previous reviewer did, had a problem with the cord not staying plugged in. To the poor guy who wanted the software, it is already loaded on the drive, as it tells you on the box. You just plug in the power, then plug in the USB cable, connect to your PC's USB port and wait. It will load. Follow the onscreen directions. It's really... well I guess it's too late to say it's stupid proof.

Customer Review: Seagate drive delivers!
Summary: 5 Stars

I recently bought this drive and so far it has really impressed me. Granted, like any hard drive, the life expectancy is indeterminable, but the fact that Seagate gives you a 5 year warranty with this purchase gives me faith.

My main key points:

1) The transfer rate is the same as what is listed. No surprises there.

2) The entire drive is a lot smaller than what is pictured. When I first saw the photo I thought this thing was going to be a monster. Turns out, it's pretty compact. The fact that it stands on its end gives it an even smaller footprint. I'm very impressed.

3) The price is excellent! Couldn't get a better deal even if I built the external hard drive myself.

4) The included software is also very reliable and complete.

Customer Review: works great for my purposes
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this to use with my Playstation 3. I am able to store all of my mp3's, videos, and photos on this easily, and it works with a quick plug and play after formatting to fat32. I utilized a free software program from the net that did the fat32 format quickly, and the PS3 found it immediately. I have owned many Seagate internal drives before this external one, and all were reliable and durable, but eventually were outdated due to size. I have had a few Maxtor and Western Digital drives crash on me in the past, so I steer clear of those. So far, this continues to keep me faithful in the Seagate brand, and works well for my purpose of Media Storage for my PS3. I hope it will work well for you too.
