Customer Review: Get full power using only 1 of your PC's USB ports

I bought a 250 GB freeagent go almost two years ago. I bought a new notebook at the same time, so it had USB 2.0 ports & I assumed the second USB connection on the port was a waste for me.
Soon, I had two more "standard" 500 GB Seagate hard drives with AC adapters, because my notebook only had two USB ports and even with two powered USB Hubs, it couldn't handle all three external drives with everything else I have plugged in.
One day I plugged in the wrong plug & realized that the far connection is for power only. So I bought a cheap AC - USB adapter (looks like an old Motorola cell phone charger, the fat part that plugs into the wall but with no cord and one or more USB ports on the bottom for charging USB devices), plugged the far cable into the AC-USB adapter and the near USB connection(which supports BOTH data & power transfer). I was amazed by the results.
All three hard drives now run seemlessly, even with my SanDisk mp3 player, digital camera, wireless mouse, digital picture frame keychain, ipod, and everything else attached.
For a long time I thought that a rediculous power demand from my PC's USB ports was the compromise I had to accept for the convenience of having data available bia one USB cord when on the road. Now I just leave the FreeAgent Go Dock plugged in at home, and I keep the single USB cable in my computer bag.
This provides the often necessary convenience of single cable operation on the road with all the benefits of a "standard" (as opposed to portable) AC - powered external hard drive at home, with it's low PC power demand.
