Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Seagate Barracuda 7200 1.5 TB 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s 32MB Cache 3.5 Inch Internal Hard Drive ST31500341AS-Bare Drive

Customer Review: mirrored and happy
Summary: 5 Stars

Read reviews and had some reservations about buying them, but the price per gig is so much better than smaller drives. I bought two and have set them up as a single 1.5TB mirrored drive on a highpoint raid rocket controller.

The drives have run thru a verification of the mirrored array every 3 days and i have not seen any problems at all. A month has gone by with absolutely no problems.

As far as i'm concerned, i'd say these drives are fast and reliable.

Customer Review: A great buy
Summary: 5 Stars

I was looking to expand some of my 1TB drives and this one was a perfect replacement. Speed is about the same or a little faster (transfer Mb/sec) and seek times are about the same.

I read other reviews saying those drives tend to go bad but so far this one has been working fine. No unexpected temperature issues, etc.
I run a bunch of drives in a RAID5 array so I'm not overly worried if one crashes.

Given the price - I'd say it's a great buy!

Customer Review: So far, so good - all you can say about a hard drive
Summary: 5 Stars

I hesitated buying this drive due to all the chatter about last year's firmware issue. In the end I bought three of them 6 months ago, am using them with a startech docking station, and have had no problems whatsoever. I also recommend the WiebeTech static-free case if you're going to be switching these drives out a lot.

Drives do fail eventually, so the lifespan is inherently limited. But these have worked flawlessly out of the box since I got them.

Customer Review: Works Great
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been using this drive to record and play HD video to and from a satellite for more than 3 months 24/7. I have 300GB free now and I have had no problems on my XP computer with a supermicro MB. It is quiet and fast. The movies recorded are in .TS format and are generally 1-4GB each. I also use it for all other normal Windows based computer stuff like Office 2007, Symantec AV, IE, Firefox, VLC media player, etc.

Awesome drive and warranty!

Customer Review: Nice Drive
Summary: 5 Stars

I may not be the best person to write a review of this drive because I'm just using it for simple storage of picture and video files, and for that, it's great. Don't know how it would perform in a server or a raid unit, but it does what I need it to do just fine. The only negative is the lack of care with which Amazon packages it and ships it to you...leaves a bit to be desired! The one I got does appear to have survived the experience.
