Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Seagate Barracuda 7200 1.5 TB 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s 32MB Cache 3.5 Inch Internal Hard Drive ST31500341AS-Bare DriveCustomer Review: Solid, fast hard drive Summary: 5 Stars
I use this hard drive predominantly for photo storage and it is very responsive and quick. I am very satisfied with this drive and its humongous storage capacity for such a reasonable price.
IMPORTANT: KNOW HOW TO FORMAT A DRIVE BEFORE YOU BUY IT!
This drive does not come formatted and Windows cannot recognize the full capacity on its own. You have to download the Seagate SeaTools and DiscWizard to be able to do that. It's very simple, and takes less than 5 minutes, just be aware that its not as simple as plug and play.
Customer Review: Good performer, no problems here. Summary: 5 Stars
The one I got was one of the affected drives. I quickly got the corresponding firmware from the internet and applied it before using the drive (beware, there are different versions, you must use the correct firmware type).
I've had the drive for almost a month now and I have no problems so far. It's only a single drive at the moment, not in a RAID. Transfer rates are great and seeks are pretty silent. It's a great value for the money, I think will be buying more of these drives for backup purposes.
Customer Review: Great Drive Summary: 5 Stars
Amazon packaged and shipped this perfectly. They used a special mechanism just for hard drives. Drive has been in for over a week. Running great. I love it. All the drivespeedchecker speed tests I have run show it as fast as my barracuda 750gb. Very fast. I did take people's advice on this board and install the Seagate seatools (free on seagate's web site) to check the firmware. I had sd18 so I upgraded to sd1a using Seagate Firmware Upgrade Utility v4. I do not use RAID, just a home box with home video etc...
Customer Review: Nice and lots of room Summary: 5 Stars
Seagate Barracuda 7200 1.5 TB 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s 32MB Cache 3.5 Inch Internal Hard Drive ST31500341AS-Bare Drive
Do like the Seagate Barracuda 7200 1.5 TB HD it has lots of room and the seek time is quick. Dealt with these drives for many years and I still like them. I still have an 80 gig drive from Seagate also a Barracuda on my old pc and it works nice and fast. Do recommends Seagate HD's.
Customer Review: working flawlessly so far Summary: 5 Stars
I was afraid of buying this disk due to previous reports on firmware problems, but the firmware upgrade at Seagate's site excluded the range of SNs to which my three units belonged. So far the disks have performed flawlessly in a RAID5 setup (Synology DS508 host), about a month already. I understand that the early firmware fixes implied on a slower speed than what this drive is physically capable of, however that's not an issue on a home NAS, since the bottleneck is clearly the network connection.
