Customer Review: Better than expected, even after shipping "issues"
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm bought three of these for use on my dns-321 (two for raid 1 and a spare to rebuild if one fails). After updating the firmware on all three drives (from sd17 to sd1a) and on the dns-321 (to support the 1.5T drives), I've had no issues. I was a bit worried about buying these, but they are running fine.

I got these from Tiger and they shipped them without packing material so the drives were banged up. What am I gonna do except try them out and hope for the best? Those packers at Tigers are idiots.

I also have a dns-323 that I will use once they get the firmware out for the 1.5T drives. If my seagates hold up for another month, I'll buy two more of these drives.

Customer Review: Great amount of storage for a great price
Summary: 5 Stars

I needed a big hard drive to store my videos, music, and programs. The barracuda is a great hard drive for a couple of reason.

1. The noise level is basically none existent, my mini fridge makes more noise than the two 1.5 barracuda hard drives i got.

2. read and write speeds are great, programs run flawlessly and there is no lag in videos. I did notice some minor lag when it came to video games that i did not experience on smaller hard drives.

3. Packaging was incredibly sturdy with no wiggle room. It was surrounded by air packets so it was cushioned on all sides.

I highly recommend this product for people who need a lot of space.

Customer Review: Seagate Warranty Support Is Great
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had many Seagate drives for years and years with no problems but recently a brand new 1.5TB SATA model lasted only a few weeks. I was very impressed with the quick and easy warranty support I obtained at the Seagate website. Seagate provides a test program to download and execute that would collect information about the drive. After submitting that info and mailing instructions, they proceeded to send me a replacement via 2-day UPS air. The replacement came on schedule with labeling to use the container for returning the old drive via UPS at their expense. I was not aware of warranty coverage that provides a replacement unit before return of the original. Nice!

Customer Review: Vast Fast Storage Space
Summary: 5 Stars

What's to know? Seagate is a great brand. The product is a lot of fast storage that's relatively affordable per Gig of space. It's huge!

It does arrive unformatted, so set aside a day just to let the formatting complete. Also, I used the Seagate Drive Wizard (download from their website) to clone my 400 GB HD to this 1.5TB drive and before swapping them. Worked perfectly after SeaGate tech support showed me how to get the software to recognize the external USB docking station (Thermaltake BlacX (another fine prodduct)) for the clone. The drive is fast, quite, reliable and huge. Everything a Hard Drive should be.

Customer Review: Great packaging, Works so far
Summary: 5 Stars

I ordered two of these. One came before the other. Both came in the proper drive packaging that is suitable for Seagate warrantee return requirements so you want to save this packaging. It's perfect. I installed them in on Intel's mini ITX Atom based board that has two SATA ports but does not support RAID. I decided to try Fedora Core 10's software RAID 1 configuration and is my NAS. It has been online since Feb 3, 2009 and the hard drives are working perfectly so far.

UPDATE: Today, it's Jan 18, 2011. Both drives are still functioning. I have rebooted a couple times within the last six months I think.
