Although not purchased from Amazon, this drive was the perfect solution to consolidate my music and video libraries. Performance has been about the same compared with a smaller 320GB Maxtor HDD which is being replaced. The high marks were for the price. Bought this as a secondary drive for my games. Before I got this drive I only had a 320GB drive with on about 100GB left on it. Now I've got all my games installed and have a little under 900GB of space left over for whatever else I want to drop on there. Very happy with my purchase. I have used these HDs in an external eSATA host appliance connected into my MAC Pro via an eSATA / PCI Express card. Used this way, the HD becomes essentially a removable, high capacity disk. The Seagate has given good speed performance and represents the most cost effective way of obtaining this facility.Customer Review: PLug and play

I have no clue why others rate this as poor.
I purchased it and have it for sometime now it's almost noiseless and worth the $$. Maybe they had a bad purchase and had to return and get a new one I don't know but so far so good.
Thumbs up on speed rate too.
