Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Scosche passPORT Charging Adapter for iPod & iPhone (Black)

Customer Review: work as advertised
Summary: 5 Stars

This product works as advertised. I own an ipod video which i take everywhere with me. Because of this I had an adapter installed in my car so i could have it plugged into a direct audio line in to my stereo. this was great, I could dock my ipod and have perfect sound and control it from the radio interface and charge it all in one. I got a new ipod touch and imagine my surprise when i found out THE IPOD TOUCH WOULD NOT CHARGE OFF THE SAME PLUG MY IPOD VIDEO(AND OLDER IPODS) WOULD! I ordered this product after hearing about it on a podcast (I think Macbreak weekly) and low and behold IT WORKS PERFECTLY! I just attached it to the end of my preexisting plug and then plugged it into my ipod touch. All the controls work the same and it charges without problems. I could not recommend it more highly.

Customer Review: Scosche works great with my tC but not with my Durango
Summary: 5 Stars

When I received the Scosche I was hopeful that it would work with my '08 tC in charging my 5Gen Nano. It worked like a charm *whew*. However, when visiting my fiance and trying to use her aftermarket stereo--Pioneer Super Tuner3D--it didn't work. Tried it without the Scosche and still didn't charge. Her stereo works with her iPod Touch just not the 5Gen Nano.

As many of the reviews it is a hit and miss for each manufacturer. Just make sure before you purchase this item you can return it if it doesn't work. More importantly check with your car/stereo manufacturer first as they may have a fix (software or new cable) before purchasing.

I'm just glad it fixed my charging problem with my '08 tC.

Now I can keep on car dancing...

Customer Review: Does the job
Summary: 5 Stars

As another reviewer said, it works. I bought this to use with my 5th Gen iPod Nano and a Philips docking speaker which would neither play sound nor charge my 5th Gen nano. With this adapter, the speaker works as it did before with my older iPod. It both charges the nano and plays the sound and the remote is functional.

It is a bit long, and if I were using an iPhone or iTouch with this adapter in the docking station I would be hesitant about having to mess too much with the iPod for fear of possible damage to the dock or adapter. However, the nano is very light and doesn't need the support from the dock itself to stay upright.

Overall I'm very pleased with this purchase. The $17 I spent on it sure beats having to buy another speaker dock!

Customer Review: Allows you to charge newer iPods on older chargers.
Summary: 5 Stars

Pros:
Does exactly as described. I had an iPod hook-up through the CD-Changer port on my factory head unit that charged my 3rd Gen iPod, iPod Classic, and 1st Gen iPod Touch. It didn't work at all for my girlfriend's 2nd Gen Touch or my new 4th Gen. Both now work perfectly.

Cons:
Adaptor is a little large which made it more difficult to place the iPod in the center console of my Mazda.

Summary:
From the reviews it is clear not everyone understands what this adapter actually does. It merely changes the pin for power (think of it like an ethernet crossover), thats it. It will not magically make things work that didn't before. Audio must work before the use of this adapter for it to work with this adapter.

Customer Review: exactly what i needed with a monster fm transmitter
Summary: 5 Stars

i was a bit nervous about buying this b/c it seemed it was only for use with in-car stereo systems that plug into iPods, but i'm more than happy with the product. I have an older monster icarplay fm transmitter that i guess charges via firewire (which is not supported in the new ipods/iphone). I've used it with a second generation iPod touch, my iPhone 3g, and my 4g Nano and it is incredible. It charges and plays great.

the best thing about this product, versus the others, is that it gets rid of that warning message that says "this product is not supported for charging" or something like that. it just plugs in and charges. you do still get asked to put the iPhone into airplane mode to reduce interference though.
