Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sanyo R227 WiFi Internet Radio (Black)Customer Review: Sanyo R227 Wi-Fi Internet Radio Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great internet radio and easy to set up via the Reciva website. Only negative is the brightness of the display in the inactive state (not adjustable). Too bright for dark bedroom. Sanyo's support is almost non-existent. This radio may be somewhat difficult to find. Has headphone jack on front and aux out on the back, where you want them to be. Few radios these days have an aux out jack. Also has aux input jack and you can set the volume level of the aux input from the radio. Photo a bit deceiving. This stereo radio has the speakers on the sides of the cabinet. Remote control buttons not set up logically, but you get used to it. For the price, I'm very happy with it. As with all wi-fi radios, you may have to adjust the signal strength put out from your router. If you have DSL, the phone company will do this for you as they control the signal strength. Phone company support was excellent. Also has FM tuner, but less than desirable FM pigtail antenna, which will work quite well in a non-rural area. Wish the radio had an RF FM Antenna jack. The Internet section of the radio has no exposed antenna which is a plus for placement. If you can't find a decent station to listen to on a standard FM radio, this is the radio for you. Hundreds and hundreds of Internet radio stations to listen to. Wish radio had more than 8 presets, but once you load your favorite stations into the radio, they are easy to access via the "My Stations" protocol, via the radio or the remote. DXing from the radio somewhat difficult, but extremely easy via the website. You can program your favorite stations into the radio via the website. This is my favorite radio and I own several radios.
For two months, the third line of the display, title and artist, did not work. Just continually read "Real Enabled". This is what is called the Metadata line. Didn't realize that the line should display title and artist until I bought a second Grace Radio, also from Amazon.com. It now works, but I am not sure exactly how I got it to work. 1) Sent email to Reciva with a request to activate. 2) I found out from the Reciva forum that an older website than Reciva (do an Internet search for "Tangent Radio"), which you would also have to register on, has a setting under "my radios" that will activate the "real enabled" when you click on your radio ID. Both Tangent and Reciva are tied together so you won't have to re-register the radio. The next day the metadata line worked. Was it the email to Reciva or the Tangent website?
See my Amazon.com review of the Grace GDI-IRD4400m for a good side-by-side review of both the Sanyo and Grace radios.
