Customer Review: Yes, but do NOT upgrade firmware!

I had purchased one from Amazon and went through the upgrade process. I SHOULD HAVE read the [...] forum first. The upgrade (so-called) caused the radio to respond VERY slowly each time it was turned on. Apparently, the Euro-software now being downloaded causes the WiFi to turn completely off each time the radio goes off, instead of going into standby mode.
As a result, instead of connecting in 3-10 seconds, it takes MINUTES before you can hear music.
This is really an excellent product, great audio, SUPER selection of stations. But STAY WITH THE ORIGINAL FIRMWARE. PERIOD.

We bought this radio thinking we would surf the world - and we have, but what's really cool is being able to listen to virtually any radio station (especially PBS) with crystal clear reception, great sound and no monthly dues. I looked at the other internet radios on the market but this one was almost $100 less expensive with most of the same features. It looks very cool and really was plug and play out-of-the-box. One great feature is It interfaces with www.reciva.com so you can create a long favorite stations list and it downloads to the radio automatically. I just purchased this Sangean WFR-20 Wifi internet radio. This is a great item. I used to listened to internet radio on my pc during the day but with this radio I can listend to it anywhere around the house and the best feature is that I can listen to it at bedtime by using the sleep timer and the alarm feature for waking up with news and music from around the world. This is the radio of the future, great sound lots of features and nice looking radio. If you are thinking about buying this radio you will be very satisfied. I'm a British expat in the US. I wanted to listen to what I consider to be the world's best radio station, BBC Radio 4, so I bought this. It was up and running within five minutes of being taken out of the box, it usually connects to stations very quickly, and the sound is superb. I already have a Bose Wave radio which I suspect is not going too get much use any more. I also like being able to listen to BBC programmes after they are broadcast.
I rarely buy electronic gadgets, but this one has tangibly improved the quality of my life.

Radio was delivered promptly and arrived in perfect condition. The radio itself is of the highest quality and well manufactured. It's a little tricky to figure out at first, but once one gets used to the single knob operation, it's actually pretty easy to work with. The only problem is dealing with Reciva, they do have occasional problems and bugs, which means that sometimes you can't pick up any broadcasts. You have to keep in mind that this is still fairly new and developing technology, so sometimes patience is required.
