I've been a radio "nut" since I built my first crystal radio when I nine years old. Since then, I've become an amateur radio operator, worked as a maintainer for aircraft radios, and been a shortwave listener for years.
That's my "radio" background.
So what about this Sangean WFR-20 wifi radio?
I've had my radio for a few weeks now and I am very pleased. Set up was accomplished in minutes. It's user friendly even if you have the slightest aptitude for computers/radios etc. Nothing tricky at all.
Now I can receive, in clear digital audio, 30,000 radio programs from all over the world. No static, no drift, no radio buzz if my neighbor decides to use his electric saw. Searching for stations is easy through the decision tree on the display, i.e., locale, genre, my stations etc. Pick one and go through the stations.
In addition, I've programmed, via the easy to use Reciva site, all my favorite talk shows, news programs, music stations. I found excellent stations I never heard of before.
You have to get used to the one dial set up. That takes about 30 seconds to figure out. Big whoopie. The only "negative" I can come up with is that the "tree" you go through to get from one station to another is a little awkward, but no big deal at all.
The radio is convenient enough for me to use it in the basement, in the kitchen, outside in my workshop. Comes in great everywhere on my property.
I don't know about other brands of wifi radio, but I do know that I really like my radio a lot. Should have bought one earlier.

I've had my WFR-20 for a month now and I'm very happy with it. Set up
very easy and I had the radio connected within minutes. I first tried a
wireless connection with the unit on a shelf about three feet away from
router, a Westell Versalink model 327W; could not connect. I believe this
was a problem with the router since my wife has problems connecting with her Dell laptop. I then ran an ethernet cable from the router and
connected immediately to the network. The sound quality is equal to or
better than a Cambridge Soundworks HD radio I have.
During the first ten days, I used the radio in my home office. Then I
ran a fifty foot ethernet cable to a hub in my bedroom and it still
performs flawlessly. I also ran an RCA audio cable from the out jack
on the back of the radio to a ZVOX speaker used for computer audio in
the office, works great. Also, I often use it with a Sangean Versacorder
to record distant late night talk shows or other programs. All things considered, I'm happy to give this unit five stars and have no regrets with this purchase. Wifi is the greatest thing to happen to the radio medium in the last sixty years and the WFR-20 is probably your best bet
of the radios currently available.

I recently ordered this internet radio from amazon. The one I received wouldn't turn on, however. First I telephoned the toll free number for Sangean America. The customer service person told me that I could return the defective unit to Sangean or to amazon.com directly (since it was brand new). I went to the "returns" section of amazon's customer service link on the web and was given a prepaid shipping label to put on the box, which I then took to my local UPS Store. Amazon e-mailed me that the replacement radio would be sent by UPS one-day delivery and would arrive the next day (just a day after my first reporting the problem). It did, was very easy to set up and my wife and I are both delighted with the amazingly quick service from amazon and with the radio itself. We used to live in London and were missing BBC Radio 4 and the UK radio station Classics FM. We are so pleased that we plan to order a second WFR-20 so we can have one in the kitchen as well as the bedroom. The sound quality is excellent and the radio is very easy to use. I ordered this radio after doing a great deal of on-line research, frustrated that American retail electronics stores for the most part don't stock internet radios, thus leaving consumers without an opportunity for in-store inspections. The radio arrived this afternoon, I had it configured within minutes of opening the box, and it's playing splendidly in the background as I write this. The sound quality is much better than I expected for this size unit (though I'd hoped for good sound given this price). Another pleasant surprise is that the navigation is much simpler than I'd expected, given the solitary knob that controls everything. AND, this radio performs much better as a media streamer than most products currently on the market for that purpose. After fooling around with radio stations for a while, I started streaming music from my immense collection on a hard drive in another part of the house -- One selling point is that the Sangean can play lossless files in the FLAC format -- On the whole, this item surpassed all my expectations.Customer Review: Exceeded my expectations

I purchased this item for my grandmother, who up to now, was using a comparatively larger computer in the living room to listen to some of her Italian language programming. She isn't computer literate in the least, so I had the machine set up so that it would boot directly into whatever station she wanted. Basically, it was a lot of complexity for a simple task. I'd read the reviews on this radio and decided to bring it over and have her give it a try. So far, the compactness of the unit and the convenience of the remote make this much more convenient for her, especially so because she can bring it in the bedroom and listen at night, without having to get up to turn it off or change the station. About the only thing that's difficult is going through the station list through the unit's menus. If you don't know exactly what you're looking for, you will be scrolling a lot.
I'll probably purchase at least one more of these for her, since the convenience of the wireless connection means she can easily install one in another room.
