Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sangean RCR-1 Advanced Atomic Clock Radio - SilverCustomer Review: Cool clock, but... Summary: 3 Stars
This is a nifty clock but it is useless as a bedside or nighttime clock. It has such low contrast on the display (which is analog and digital) that you have to turn up the brightness almost all the way to read the time at night.
So when it's 3:00 in the morning and you wake up it's VERY HARD to read the time, unless the brightness is on max. And if it's on maximum, it illuminates the entire room. Maybe you are like me as sick of all the gadgets in my bedroom with little lights on them.
Anyway, you've been warned. It's a great clock but I have not enjoyed using it when it is dark.
Customer Review: Good Clock Radio; Not Great Summary: 3 Stars
The radio reception, nap feature, and humane waking system are great on this clock radio. However, I did not like the time display. The reception in my area was not ideal for an atomic clock. Also, inclement weather can affect its performance, too. The instruction booklet didn't note that the speaker symbol on the display means that the radio will wake you nor that the clock has an internal battery that saves your settings in the event of power interruption.
Customer Review: Pretty good clock Summary: 3 Stars
A really nice feature is that the brightness of the display can be adjusted to multiple settings, unlike the one or two on most clock radios. Sound is good, and we like the two types of display. One problem - the digital display is quite hard to read at a distance. Also, the time synchronization attachment works great but is kind of clunky.
Customer Review: Backlit display is too bright. Summary: 3 Stars
I agree with the prior reviewer that the backlighting on the display is just too bright. I did turn down the backlight as much as possible, but it's still too bright. It illuminates the whole bedroom in a blue glow. Other than that, it's fine.
Customer Review: Good ideas, poor execution Summary: 2 Stars
I've had this clock radio for about a year. I think it has a
lot of good ideas but not very good execution.
The gradual increase in alarm volume is controlled by an "alarm
volume" control, separate from and independant of the "main
volume". However, the alarm volume only controls the initial
volume. It gradually increases by some fixed amount and I find
the ending volume too loud and there is no way to make it
quieter. Even all the way down, it still gradually increases
until it's too loud. I have a towel wrapped up over the
speaker.
The alarm setting controls are complicated enough that if I
don't change the settings for a few months, I have to read the
manual again. If I have a day off, I just let the alarm wake
me and then go back to sleep rather than try to reprogram it
for one day.
I agree with the all the other reviewers who say it's hard to
read the display at night.
Sometimes, the atomic clock resets itself and the clock hands
start spinning as it sets the correct time. When the clock
hands pass the alarm time, the alarm is triggered. Very
annoying in the middle of the night. What were they thinking?
