Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sangean H201 AM/FM Digital Shower RadioCustomer Review: Best Shower/Anywhere Radio Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased the Sangean H201 AM/FM Digital Shower Radio on July 29, 2009. I'm writing this review today, April 8, 2011, because this is the FIRST time I had to change the batteries in the radio. This thing is amazing. My wife and I have used it every day since we purchased it and it has held up perfectly. The writing on the power and volume buttons are starting to wear which is no big deal. We also take this to tail gates, on our friends boat, out by the barbecue, and pretty much anywhere you just want some music. My only complaint about the unit is that it does not have a built in antenna. It does well without stringing out the antenna but if you listen to a station that is not close by you'll end up taking a push pin and tacking up the antenna to get the desired reception. Overall I would recommend this radio to anyone. It is definitely worth the extra money!
Customer Review: Can't find anything wrong with it Summary: 5 Stars
I love this radio. I have had it for 7 or 8 months now, and I still love it as much as I did on the first day. It looks kind of lame, like it's from the 70's or 80's, but that's the only thing that's less than perfect. It gets great reception, it's as durable as a rock (it will float and operate when put in water), the handle makes it easy to hang almost anywhere, and the volume is loud enough for any bathroom (unless you have a ridiculously large bathroom). I can hear the music all the way in my bedroom, which is down and across the hallway. 4 different people shower in this bathroom every day, and we all use the radio. The battery display still shows full strength after all this time, and I have yet to replace the batteries. As I try to think of a negative comment (just to be fair) I can't. I highly reccommend this product to absolutely anyone that showers.
Customer Review: So far, so good... Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the product a couple of weeks back and have been using it daily. The sound and big digital display are each very clear, and it has nice features like a backlight, auto on/off, etc. The size isn't as big as some people made it seem, by their "I was so surprised by the size" reviews. If you read the dimensions, you shouldn't be surprised at all. It also seems like you could go scuba diving with it and it would still stay watertight - that aspect of the radio impressed me the most. The only thing I found lacking is that since I love to have music blaring, the volume tops out lower than I'd hoped. That said, it is, after all, a shower radio so I suppose it's unrealistic to expect to blow the shower door out with the sound. In any case, this is a SOLID purchase, and after all of my research, this seems to be the best out there of its kind.
Customer Review: Excellent shower radio! Summary: 5 Stars
This Sangean H201 radio is much better than the Sony "Tap Tunes" shower radio we replaced with it. First, this Sangean has a good, clear midrange; this is especially important for voice intelligibility in a shower (a noisy environment). Second, the Sangean uses two "D" cells, so it will run a long time before batteries need to be replaced, and its use of an even number of batteries (unlike the Sony that uses three "C" cells) means that it's better for using rechargeable batteries--they often have to be charged in pairs. Third, the Sangean's ergonomics are quite good; it has a low center of gravity and a large enough base so that it doesn't tip over easily; it has clearly marked buttons rather than a bunch of submenus on an LCD screen--this is especially important in a shower where you probably cannot wear eyeglasses to discern small details.
Customer Review: Heavy and Solid Summary: 5 Stars
I've had this radio for only about two weeks now, so I cannot comment on lasting durability. I will say that the apparent build quality is excellent. When I first used it, I hung it on the shower curtain rod. I have one of those screw/friction type rods; within a few hours, the radio pulled it down. It hit the bathtub edge pretty hard. It suffered no damage, but be warned: this thing is heavy.
Although it has a clock, there's no alarm, which is my only criticism.
Sound quality is good, and better suited to talk than music. It uses two 'D' batteries, so I'm assuming that it will last a while. If you're using it in the shower, plugging it in is probably not the plan, but there is a power jack (cord not included). The fold away hook is very good quality.
Overall, a great shower radio.
