I had previously been backpacking with my old Sony shortwave but needed a replacement and found the Sangean radio mentioned in the backpacking forums so I looked into it. I purchased one and was favorably impressed with the feel and weight. With Lithium batteries it is light enough to carry in my packpack on long hikes.
The reception in the backcountry (places where cell phones never work) was great both day and night. The antenna makes a big difference. The sound from the speaker is great.
If you are looking for a light backpacking radio I recommend this product.

I have read tons of reviews on this radio and others similar to it. And this is by far the best radio for the price. I just got it recently, and i love it! The reception is great, its small and easy to carry in your pocket. It can pick up even weak stations with the external antenna. (Headphone Jack). The sound quality is almost as good as an mp3 player. I have an ipod and the quality is very close to it. The optional Bass booster(DBB) helps a lot with the qualtiy. So if your looking for a small, great sounding radio, this is the one for you!Customer Review: Solid performance, handy size, simple to use.

This little radio has exceeded my expectations. The controls are very intuitive and laid out logically. The switches, materials, fit and finish are of high quality. The display is easy to read. I live in a big city but my favorite FM station has a wimpy transmitter and a strong adjacent station. This radio does a nice job of rejecting the adjacent signal. I'm very satisfied with this purchase.
Now that I've owned this radio for awhile I continue to be impressed with the elegant design, user-friendly controls and amazing battery life.

I bought this for my husband, an avid sports fan who listens to a local AM sports station. Now, when he walks around the house he has the radio attached to his pocket because the station never fades in and out. Also, he has taken the radio with him when we have gone farther from home and his station. Usually the station would not come in at all. This time it did and it was crystal clear. The lock botton is also an added feature that keeps the radio tuned to our favorite station. This is a wonderful radio and I have ordered me my own.Customer Review: The little Radio the Could!

I purchased this today. Excellent in all respects. Tonal quality in ear buds is excellent, also has external speaker. Just like the old transitor but this rocks with reception, power and size!
I really like it. Shuts off after 60 minutes to save batteries. 19 presets for AM FM and TV. Lock to prevent changes to presets and accidental turn on.
Perfect traveling radio for those who like to listen to the radio in hotels. Much better than the hotel radios full of static. This thing picks up the signal!
