Having researched extensively before buying a couple of years ago, this looked like the best choice of sensitivity, portability, usability, and overall quality.
It is everything I could want. Living on the edge of the Texas High Plains and the New Mexico desert, we are in between some good radio stations. The only problem is that you must go 5oo+ miles to find them (Denver, Ft. Worth - Dallas, San Antonio, Houston, New Orleans, Oklahoma City, etc.
This small pocket sized receiver does everybit as good as the high priced, highly amplified signal, rotatable antenna setups in the house.
I bought it to use when walking. Even though I can no longer walk, it did great pulling in everything I could get at home. It is far better than my car radio on the road. So, I often put in on the dash -- or in my pocket if the family is asleep, or wants to hear something besides my choices. The ear buds work fine.
Reception is clear. Discrimination is very good when we must reach a relatively weak station in Cincinnati, etc. alongside a powerful Mexico station on the border, etc.
Rate me highly pleased in every way.

I've owned and used the little Sangean radio for several months now and so far it has exceeded my expectations. Generally I carry it in my shirt pocket, and love how small and light it is.
The little speaker is adequate for listening to AM talk-radio, although I prefer listening with ear buds. The provided ear buds are not worth using unless you have no other choice. I buy good ear buds and the difference in sound is dramatic. For FM stereo listening with good ear buds - the sound is excellent! It really surprised me. I hadn't listened much to FM in years, now when I go to bed at night I put in the ear buds and try not to stay awake too long, by getting sucked into some great sounding music. I've rediscovered the pleasure of broadcast music.
So far the battery life seems reasonable, so no complaints there. Its survived a couple of minor drops too... I also like its ability to memorize favorite stations. That's handy.
If it breaks I'll definitely buy another one. I don't claim to be a gourmet radio guy, but I am a pro musician, so audio quality is something I notice & require.

My city abuts Boston, so you would think that my reception would be good. I didn't know how bad it was until I recieved this little gem. Suddenly there are AM stations that I had no idea were there. And there were lots of weak FM stations that I now have a solid lock on. Oh yeah...Local TV is good too. Guess it would be good to watch local stations with the volume down (perhaps if spouse is sleeping?)
I walk with this radio and absolutely love it. It would be good if it was a bit smaller but it is light enough so that if I hook it on my belt or even the spandy elastic stuff on athletic shorts, it's hardly noticeable. Did I say, I really think this little radio is terrific? Oh...I don't like earbuds so I never even unpacked them. Got some others that are good enough for me.
I think this radio would be great for anyone, especially the talk/sports radio, baseball/football junkie like me.
Footnote: I've had this little radio for a 7 months now and have dropped it several times to no negative affect. In some buildings the AM is terrible while the FM seems unaffected by the wires, steel, pipes etc. found in a building.
Customer Review: Great Little Radio-BUT ONE PROBLEM

I looked carefully at four or five pocket radios and decided on the Sangean. After using it for a couple of months, I am extremely satisfied with my decision. The size is right and the shape pleasing, controls are intuitive, and the sound, both AM and FM, is superb. I love the auto shut-off function (90 minutes) but I would have been even happier if it had been 30 minutes. I use it on walks with my dog and around the house. But most of all I use it to get back to sleep if I wake up too early in the morning. Don't tell the folks at the BBC & PBS but the dulcet tones of their announcers work wonders at 3:00 am when I'm trying to snooze for another couple of hours. This is where the auto shut-off function comes in handy. Great little radio!
BUT--After owning this radio for about 4 weeks, it suddenly quit. I replaced the batteries with fresh ones--twice. But still no sound. I tried all the controls, including the "Lock" button, but the radio would not work. Fortunately, EXPO Electronics/Amazon is sending me a return authorization and will replace it. I just hope radio #2 works longer, a lot longer!!!

This is the perfect little radio, folks. It is small and sleek, with nice features. The reception is VERY good. In fact, I have not been able to listen to my favorite radio program for a year, since I moved last year from the town that it is broadcast from 50 miles south of my new home. Now I am able to pick up the station (although I have to angle the radio just in the right place in the house). No other radio since has been able to do that.You can even listen to local television broadcasts. The local television stations are extremely clear.
Great features on this slick little radio. I especially LOVE the little speaker on the front. It sounds fantastic! Great little digital display on front. Deep Base Boost (DBB) sounds fantastic.
I guess if there is one thing that I could say would have been a bit of an improvement would be to have a backlight on the digital display. But I'm not complaining. I love this radio!!
This obviously was a very well thought out radio by Sangeans. It has everything I was looking for in a pocket sized radio!
I am tempted to order another one.
