Customer Review: Outstanding!
Summary: 5 Stars

All the high marks regarding this excellent little radio are well deserved!

The product not only looks great on a desk or coffee table, it is the perfect physical size to deliver portability while remaining just large enough to house a decent sounding speaker. The lack of tone controls has not created any issues for us. We have never felt that the hard wired tone settings on any broadcast was in need of adjustment. In addition to the sound quality, the radio reception is also impressive and much better than I had expected! We also own a 10 year old CCRadio+ which cost us twice the price but the reception capability of this Sonido radio is nearly identical with FM and Weather Band! This fine radio actually does a little better job of pulling in our weak weather broadcast than the plus can in the same location.

We live in the Sierra Nevada mountains so any radio reception up here is difficult. We can't pull in any AM stations here on any radio without an outside antenna, so I can not comment on that aspect of this product. We are not using this radio in a location where an external antenna is practical. The FM and Weather are the two bands we bought this for, and as I said, it does both VERY WELL.

I am 100% satisfied with this purchase and if our CCRadio+ ever fails, I think I will just buy another one of these instead! With the external audio input as well as the audio output jack, this thing does pretty much everything the CCradio+ can in a much smaller footprint! A lot cheaper too!

5 Stars Easy!

Customer Review: Just Perfect! (And Kudos to Amazon Customer Service!)
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this radio while my mom was in the hospital to replace her old "boom box" radio/CD player (on which she never used the CD player). I wanted something semi-portable and easy for her arthritic hands to handle and adjust. I also wanted digital tuning and programmable buttons, for ease of use for her. Good reception of both FM and AM isn't an issue for us because of where we live, but she was having some trouble with drift on the old boom box. I needed an AC powered unit, because she listens ALL night and I didn't want to be awakened at 3 a.m. to change batteries!

Long story short, I did a LOT of research here on Amazon and elsewhere trying to find a set that met all my requirements and I ordered the Sonido. Sadly, we received a defective unit. I put the batteries in exactly as instructed in the book and on the radio itself and they rapidly heated the unit to the point that I thought the plastic would melt. I nearly burned my hands on the batteries getting them out of the radio. I was disappointed, but I quickly contacted Amazon to exchange it. Needless to say, Amazon (and trust me, I don't always agree with on all their policies or practices) came through as usual with a ship-free printable return label and a quick ship of a replacement. Batteries in and the replacement shows no signs of having the same problem. Kudos to Amazon on excellent customer service and to Sangean on a great product!

Customer Review: Best AM Reception For Your Money!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had this radio for a week and the AM reception is outstanding,
even better than my Grundig G4000! It at least ties it for FM. The TV and
weather band are great too! I get all the weather stations in my area,
better than my walkman that only gets the local one. The TV band gets as many channels as my other TV radio, the Sangean DT220. It has a great sounding speaker too, my next best sounding radio, right behind my Boston Acoustics. The only thing I wish it had is more than 5 presets per band, but that's no big deal. The battery life is great too! I've been using it every day for a week and the battery indicator still reads full. I also like the aux input. So I'm using this as my new portable radio! This is definately one of the better radios out there.

Update: 3/9/08 After 2 weeks of use on batteries the battery indicator still reads almost full. This radio has very long battery life! It does real well on the AC cord too. No AC hum at all! I hooked it up to my cord a couple of days ago and am piping it through the speaker of my Boston Acoustics clock radio because the speaker has slightly better bass.

Customer Review: A Classic!
Summary: 5 Stars

First off, define the primary use for your radio.
My primary use is for a battery powered radio in the bathroom and for out on the deck. Channel presets are a must as is the clock as I use it in the bathroom while getting ready for work. More important is good battery life and good sound. I have been using mine for eight months on one set of four D cells and still have one bar out of three left. I have yet to use the AC adaptor as my main radio is a PD-R5 (another excellent radio) which sits plugged in on my end table.

This is a good sounding radio with excellent battery life. It is rather large and hefty with four D cells inside it. (I like the heft while out on the deck. If the wind picks up, I am not afraid of it tipping over.) The only improvement I would recommend is a sturdy handle. Other than that, I am extremely pleased.

Customer Review: Great Radio
Summary: 5 Stars

I think that this is a excellent Weather Alert radio because it serves it purpose and is easy to operate. My last Weather Alert radio was just to complicated, even in just using the clock radio features. It was a Reecom and even gave child alerts but programming was a major job. This one gives you just local weather alerts and that is what is needed in an emergency. The AM receiver is very good because it is the first radio that I get numerous stations at my location. I live in a low area about 200 feet below hills on both sides of my house. It does very well. The FM band is excellent. The quality of the sound is between very good and great. The clock radio function is excellent. The only downside is no handle and what I feel is less than satisfactory instructions. Otherwise, if you need a NOAA Weather Alert Radio this is an excellent choice.
