Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sandisk Extreme USB 2.0 3in1 Card Reader (SDDRX3-3IN1-901, US Retail Package)

Customer Review: I Highly Suggest You Get This Reader
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a digital photographer and I take a lot of images. When I am doing a photo shoot of an event I will more than likely fill at least three 4 GB compact flash cards each time. This card reader is a real life-saver for me. It's fast, it's mobile and it's just a very well built machine that can withstand a lot of use. I know, I've been putting mine to the test and it has NEVER let me down.

I haven't had a reason to try it yet, but there is some software that comes with the reader called, "RescuePro." It is for recovering images from a crashed card or if you accidently reformat/erase images it is supposed to help recover the lost images. KNOCK ON WOOD!!! I haven't had to use it, but I'm glad SanDisk includes it with the reader just in case I ever have the need to use it.

I highly recommend this reader. The price here on Amazon is a GOOD price for it and I'm very, very happy with my choice to get this particular reader over others.

Customer Review: Fast. Reliable. Need I say more?
Summary: 5 Stars

The reviews said this is the second fastest CF reader on the market, and even though I'm a stickler for speed, I purchased this one. Why? This one is happy to use the USB connector on my laptop.

The faster one is SanDisk's Firewire-based reader. The Firewire-based reader requires the larger 6-pin firewire cable because the reader needs to draw its power from the computer. The smaller 4-pin Firewire connector found on laptops isn't sufficient to power the Firewire reader. So, if I wanted that fast reader, and I wanted to use it on my laptop, I would have to buy a PCMCIA Firewire card for my laptop in addition to the CF card reader. And I'd have to carry that PCMCIA card around, not lose it, break it, etc. More hassle than I was willing to deal with.

This USB-based CF reader is sufficiently fast for me. With a full 8GB SanDisk Extreme III card, I was able to copy off all the files in about 5 minutes. For my uses, that'll do nicely.

Customer Review: Works the way it should...

And really, what more can you ask for.

I have several card readers and this one quickly became my favorite. I am a Mac person and prefer FireWire for everything, but this reader made me believe in USB2. It's very fast. My FireWire card readers might be a little faster, but they're Compact Flash only, I have a mix of CF and Secure Digital cards and was tired two readers. This is flat out the fastest SD reader I have and it's about the same size as a FireWire CF card only reader. For the convenience it can't be beat. On top of which, (and not that this important) it's good looking. Velcroed to my MacBook it looks like it belongs, unlike most of the other multi-card readers that are sort of ugly.

If you have a mix of CF and SD cards this is the best reader available.

Customer Review: FAST FAST FAST!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Wow! What a difference this reader makes. I always thought my old reader was ok, but this SanDisk Extreme reader changes everything.

Installation was plug and play.

The reader has a nice rubber bottom that prevents it from sliding around your desk and the slots are clearly marked on the front.

Using my old reader, I would get an average transfer rate of 2.5 MB/second (about 520MB in 3.5 minutes). With this SanDisk I get a transfer rate of about 7.5MB/second (about 520 in 70 seconds)! And this is using a "generic" brand standard speed memory card.

If you feel like you are wasting a lot of time waiting around while you download images or videos from your memory cards, this reader is for you!

Customer Review: Great card reader for the price, better than firewire reader
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a good buy. It's plenty fast enough when you plug it into a USB 2.0 slot. A lot of people don't plug it into an actual USB 2.0 slot and will then just get normal slower USB transfer speeds. But when using USB 2.0, it's very fast, about as fast as firewire actually.

And this card reader is better than the Firewire model because it also includes a slot for SD, MMC and Memory Stick Pro Duo in addition to CF cards. The Firewire model only has a CF slot. Also, the chances of other computers that you might want to transfer your images onto of having USB are much greater than with Firewire.

Lastly, this card reader is a lot cheaper than the Firewire model.
