Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk Sansa m230 512 MB MP3 Player (Blue)

Customer Review: Sansa mp3 player trusty and reliable
Summary: 5 Stars

For the price you really can't beat this mp3 player. Its a feature packed, flash memory- no skipping, blacklit for night operation, fm radio- in case your music collection gets stale, and best of all comes with an armstrap and sweat protectant case, best of all incorpates a stopwatch for workouts. Sound quality is clear and loud at its maximum volume, its still audible when I board a train or take a flight.

There really are no weaknesses, maybe perhaps the forward track button gets a little worn out relative to the others, still after 1 year of heavy daily use, it still keeps on going.

I find these mp3's players to be a better buy than anything apple can throw at it including the shuffle, which is screenless. Heres why- with its low price you wont have to worry as much if someone swipes it from your gym bag, or if you misplace it. I find that mp3 players only get a few minutes of use a day anyway, which does'nt justify a larger capacity ie. the several GB models.

Customer Review: Great Product but recommend the next one up
Summary: 5 Stars

I love the quality of the Sansa M230. My only regret is that I didn't spend the extra on the next model up. Although the advertisement and manual say 120-240 songs, realistically I've only got about 100-110 on it and it's full. It's possible I'm ripping at too high a quality...128-160 kbs. In all fairness though, I knew going into it that I only needed 11 or 12 CDs on the player at a time. After a week or two I get tired of them and re-sync using Windows Media Player v10. The sync process was the hardest part to figure out but once I got that down it's great. You can also drag and drop to and from the player through Windows Explorer. Windows sees the player as just another drive but you cannot create playlists with this method. As far as quality, sound and features go it's simple and fantastic.

Update May 1, 2006 - Ripping from CDs at 96kbs is very adequate. The quality is still very good and you can fit significantly more music on this device....that is 150-200 tunes.

Customer Review: Great Deal!
Summary: 5 Stars

I recieved this MP3 player for Christmas about a year ago. I have really enjoyed this player. It has a fairly good battery life although I would recommend you invest in some rechargeable AAA's. Music is easy to upload with Windows Media Player, or simply using the drag-and-drop method straight from your computer. It comes with a plastic case that you fit over the player and that is a really nice feature. The radio transmitter is great and gets amazing reception.

The earbuds that came with it lasted for about 2-3 months and then one ear went out. I used them that way for about 8 months and then the other ear finally went out. I would get this player (since it's a great value) and invest in some noise cancelling earbuds.
I also have never been able to get the "playlist" feature to work on the player... I still can't figure that one out.

Overall, I would definetly recommend this player. It's a great player for the price and does a good job.

Customer Review: Works with Linux
Summary: 5 Stars

This is my first mp3 player, and I am very pleased with it - and amazed by the number of features it has at such a low price.

The product description talks about the various encumbered music systems it works with, but it also works with simple drag 'n drop under Linux. The player appears on the desktop as a USB jumpdrive. You simply drag album folders to the Sansa to transfer your music, then the player automatically updates its index when you disconnect the USB cable. Music is indexed by: album title, artist, song title, genre, and year - all automatically, with no special software needed on your computer. Deleting music from the player is just the same, right-click on a song to delete, and the player rebuilds its library list.

The player itself is well made and easy to use. The instruction booklet covers only the basics, but there is a larger manual on the enclosed mini-disk.

My only regret is that I did not buy one with a larger memory.

Customer Review: FANTASTIC Little MP3 Player!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this last Saturday at Office Depot, and it's an AWESOME little mp3 player. My old player had run out of space (it was only 256), so I decided to get a bigger one. This one is "bigger" memory-wise, but it's still really small and compact! The radio is good on it, and I couldn't be happier with its performance. The earbuds are just AWESOME, as I think are all amplified earpieces (my Creative earbuds were awesome too).
I only have a half-gripe, and that's that the player is only compatible with Windows XP. In order for it to work with my Windows 98 laptop, I had to go through a heck of a time with the drivers and all. Doing an online search in Google Groups helped, and I was soon able to recognize it on the computer and start adding songs. I've added almost all the songs that I love, and I still have about 80-something MB left!
All in all, the PERFECT mp3 player for ya. It's got great sound, awesome radio, everything you could want.
A must have!
