Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk Sansa m230 512 MB MP3 Player (Blue)Customer Review: Great for Travel and Home Use Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this because it was so darn cheap, and expected it to break within 6 months because I have a bad habit of constantly dropping electronics. I've dropped it many, many times, and my trusty Sansa has never let me down! I've had it for over a year now, and I took it backpacking around Europe for a month and it was PERFECT. It has a sleep timer so I could fall asleep on the trains without draining the battery. It holds enough music so that I never got tired of the songs, and it is very durable. When I'm at home, it's perfect for going to the gym and going running.
It's certainly not as compact as, say, an iPod shuffle, but it's also about $60 less and performs a much greater range of functions. It shuffles albums, repeats songs, and is very user friendly. What a great mp3 player! I got an iPod nano because it came free with the MacBook, and my dad immediately snapped up my Sansa because the type was big enough that he didn't have to use reading glasses. So I guess this player also transcends age gaps. This is a great mp3 player, because of both its amazing price and its great quality. I love it! I'm traveling internationally in the near future, and intend on borrowing it back from my dad because it uses batteries instead of a charger so I don't have to worry about plug compatibility or accessibility. I very highly recommend the Sansa!
Customer Review: How to play songs in track order Summary: 5 Stars
I bought it from Circuit city. It was running an old firmware and songs could only be played in alphabetical order. Renaming the file names to begin with numbers didn't help. Then I downloaded the lastest firmware from sandisk website. Problem solved after the firmware update.
To update the firmware,
(1) downloaded the firmware to your PC and run it.
(2) During the installation, you are prompted to connect the player to PC. Before connection, you need to power off the player and put it at 'Hold' postion( a orange mark will show).
(3) Follow the instructions on screen for the rest.
Overall, I found this player very good.
Prons,
(1) sound quality is excellent. I encoded mp3s in 320kbps, which sound really good. You may need to adjust the equalizer a bit to get your favarite sound. Try the 'custom' equalizer, works really well for me. Earphone is good enough.
(2) I put mp3s in folder structre as mp3s->artist->album, that's three levels. The player find all songs in sub-directory. I read somewhere that some Creative models only read upto 2 levels.
(3) FM radio and voice recorder are nice features. Many other products at this price range don't offer these.
Cons,
(1) Doesn't look that well.
(2) Should build the the right/left earphone in different shapes.
Customer Review: great mp3 player!! Summary: 5 Stars
there are so many mp3 players on the market now. when i first started with mp3 players, i got a rca brand player. was horrible. then i searched online for a drag and drop mp3 player, by that i mean, you don't have to install annoying software that comes with the mp3 player to add the music. i havent and never will like itunes or any other so called "music management" software. i want to be able to drag and drop my music to my player just like its a usb pen drive.
that's where this unit comes in. the interface is easy to use windows xp home automatically finds it, so you don't even have to install a driver!
the battery life is decent, however if you use this unit for several hours a day, you may want to invest in some NIMH rechargeable batteries. these things will save your wallett! any electronic device nowadays is going to kill batteries. so pick you up some rechargeable AAA nimh batteries and never run out of power again!
the earbuds that come with this unit could be better, however the sound quality is decent, and i don't wanna spend $200.00+ on Noise canceling earphones.
this unit also comes with intergrated fm tuner and voice recorder.
i currently have about 110 mp3 songs on it, and you can fit more if you put wma's on it.
overall great value for the money. way to go sandisk!!!
Customer Review: The Best Buy in MP3 Players Summary: 5 Stars
I'm not a technophile, but I do love music and took a chance on the SanDisk as a way to upgrade my portable style. The Walkman was the greatest invention of its time (the 1980's), and helped me to survive many hours of grunt work on the night shift.
Now I'm retired and do a lot of walking (in the daytime!) as part of a health routine. The SanDisk uploads music quickly and easily, and in moments you're good to go. I was afraid I'd be too stupid/impatient/whatever to figure out how to work the darn thing (hint: I'm still cell phone illiterate); hence I didn't want to spend a lot of money. The SanDisk M230 sells for such a modest price I figured it was worth the risk. And how! Good quality sound, and better-than-expected battery life, too. Had I been confident in myself and the product before I purchased it, I would likely have spent just a few more $$$ to get twice the storage. However, this 512MB version holds eight hours worth, so it's actually quite satisfactory. And you can play your "tunes" in a structure of your choosing, or just mix 'em up. What more can you ask for? I don't want a bunch of silly and confusing extra features that I'll never use anyway. Hello; I'm not fifteen years old. This is a great no-nonsense product for adults, and a bargain at that!
Customer Review: Great player for the price Summary: 5 Stars
I am no expert when it comes to MP3 players but I do know how electronics are supposed to work. This player is easy to use and reliable to operate. The blue-light display is easy on the eyes and gives all the information you need to know. The buttons are large and logically placed, but not accident-prone since they are flat. There is a switch to lock out the buttons in case that is a problem, though. The menu is navigable and adequate for the task, and the FM tuner is a big plus. Battery life is surprisingly long (once you get rid of the cheapies that come with it), lasting for about 8-10 hours of play time. There was NO setup involved in connecting it to my PC, just plugged it in to the USB and I have a new device drive. The earbuds were even nicely comfortable. My only complaint is the thickness (only enough to accomodate a AAA battery) but even that was designed with a nice rounded countour bottom to fit in the palm comfortably. For the good price ($35), quick setup, quality sound, long life, and ease of use I am very pleased with the product after moderate use for one month. Comes with a mini-disc (I haven't looked at), instructions, clear plastic carrying pouch, velcro armband, 9.5 inch USB cable, and white earphones. Measures 3.1 x 1.4 x 0.9 inches.
