Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk Sansa e280 8 GB MP3 Player (Black)

Customer Review: Perfect for spoken word listening -easy to set up and use
Summary: 5 Stars

I wanted a mp3 player to listen to sermons and/or Bible spoken word recordings during my 2 hours/day of commuting. I found the perfect solution in the Sansa e280 8GB player.

I've had it for 5 months now, and I currently have over 2 years (2006, 2007 and 2008) of 35-45 min each recorded sermons on the player and still have over 6GB of "room" left.
Setting the player up and organizing the recordings into "albums" was amazingly easy. I'm not very electronically technical and was worried about whether I could get it set up the way I wanted, but it couldn't have been easier. Just use the adapter cord that comes with it, plug it into a USB port on the computer and open Windows Media player or any other media player. It is very intuitive in the way you copy and organize files. I can listen to the recordings in chronological order, or have it "shuffle" them and listen to them in random order.

I did purchase the adapter to listen to it through my FM radio in the truck, but the sound quality is not great, so I find that I mostly use the earbuds that came with the player. I like using only 1 earbud, and dislike the other one "dangling" so I'm now looking for a single earbud accessory.

For me, it has been intuitively easy to use (this is the first MP3 player I've had), it's sturdy, perfectly pocket-sized (not too small, not too large), dependable and I absolutely love it!

Customer Review: Nifty and neat
Summary: 5 Stars

This is my fourth MP3 player but my first flash drive unit. The 8GB capacity is more than adequate for my needs. Overall, it is superior to any of my previous players (an original ARCHOS my kids referred to as the 8-track player, a Dell DJ and a Toshiba 20GB model).

The pros are that it holds a very large quantity of music and/or other files, is very light, the screen is bright and easy to read, battery life is very long - the rated 20 hours is very achievable, it has a built-in FM receiver, and it works without glitches with a on-line subscription music service (Napster). The above mentioned Dell and Toshiba would not correctly update monthly with Napster and I would have to erase the player and reload my Napster playlists.

The cons, which are minor, are that the included ear buds are pitiful, and, unless you buy the charging base as an option, it can only be recharged via a PC USB port.

I did find the user interface - buttons and fly wheel, to be a bit unintuitive, but I eventually caught on. Also, as far as I can tell, you can play all playlists, or just one playlist, but I haven't found a way to choose, say, two or three playlists to play.

I consider the SanDisk 8GB player to be a great value, especially considering the capacity, battery life and features. Anyone looking to buy a flash memory player should give this model a serious look.

Customer Review: Great value
Summary: 5 Stars

I just got this a few weeks ago and I'm very happy with it. I know the e200 series is by no means new, but retired rather, but it's a great music player for the price. The interface is easy to navigate even though the buttons around the scroll wheel are sometimes difficult to push. The overall design of the device is very attractive, with perfect compact size but enough mass to it that it's easy to hold onto, unlike the ipod nano. This is really like cheating, since you can get up to 16 gigabytes of memory through expansion without the bulky design of the mp3 players that have hard drives in them, like the ipod or the zune, which are just too big. Who needs 120gb anyway?

Pros:
-Great battery life. I've barely had to charge it three times since I got it two weeks ago.
-Simple, elegant, attractive design.
-Expansion slot for up to 16gigs of space w/out bulky size.
-Easy to hold onto, yet still compact.

Cons:
-Buttons around the scroll wheel can be difficult to push.
-You can't skip to a certain letter while going through the song list, you have to scroll all the way through down to 'f' or whatever it is you're looking for.

Overall, this product is a very good deal for what you pay, is reliable and sturdy, and even though it's a retired product line, Sandisk was ahead of the game when they made these. I recommend this product. A+

Customer Review: I'd love to be reviewing this.
Summary: 5 Stars

I'd love to be reviewing the 8 gig Sansa E 280 mp3 player, but between Amazon & the farm out to vendor, Electronic Expo, they mangled my shipping address and my item is in UPS shipping hell. (Being returned to the vendor, & I have had to re-order and wait another week or so for delivery. The bonus is, it's $3 cheaper.

But that's not Sansa's fault, the fault lies between Amazon & Electronic Expo. Sansa's product is great, as this will be the 3rd Sansa E series player I've purchased. I've owned the 2 gig version, which just died after 2 years, (No fault of the player,as my daughter dropped it. These Sansa's are built like a tank, It endured quite a bit of hard living in that time. This time, the LCD screen cracked & went white. And I was still able to connect to my computer and retrieve my music & photo files!) I also have the 4 gig version which is still running steady after a year of the aforementioned hard use. This 8 gig version, (when it arrives,) will be a replacement for the 2 gig that got trashed.

These are the best players on the market! They wipe the floor w/ iPods ! The sound quality is great, (although I'm not fond of the earbuds - replace them w/ Skull Candy, they rock!) and it's very easy to upload tunes from the computer.

My 3rd Sansa e series player in a row, what more of an endorsement do you need?

Customer Review: Definitely worth your time
Summary: 5 Stars

I researched many mp3 players to buy, and nothing stacked up to the Sansa e280. Not only did it have music, FM, pictures, and Video capabilities. It also has a built in microphone for personal use. Which comes in great handy if you need notes through out the day, as do I.

The FM tuner comes in crystal clear, and records wonderfully. For easy playback. You can drag and drop your music in through the USB cable, and also DO NOT need a charger! It charges just fine through the USB cable to your computer, even when both are off.

BEWARE: The only draw back I had, because I have an older version of Windows, is the Video Converter does not work in my PC. If you have an older version of Windows look for alternatives to convert video. I tried the converter at work, and it works fine with XP just a tad slow for my taste in converting. Which I found was the case with all of the models.

The video and sound quality is great when converted, can even hear background noises in movies never heard before.

Battery life is amazing, ran a whole week on one charge!

Like many of you, I have a problem with the ear-buds in general, they never seem to be the right size, so try to invest in some good headphones or smaller ear-buds to suit you.

Great player, sturdy construction, a great little package.
