Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk Sansa e280 8 GB MP3 Player (Black)Customer Review: Looks great and works good --> recommended! Summary: 5 Stars
I've got this device two weeks ago and I am very happy with it.
PROS:
+ solidly build, scratch resistant, looks great (truly "sexy")
+ great looking interface, easy and quick navigation
+ tactile navigation wheel for fast navigation (also looks great when shines blue)
+ good sound, custom EQ, also loud enough
+ sharp display; even videos are looking good
+ good tuner reception, sensivity over average, works also in Europe
+ 20 hours with one battery charge
+ the battery is replaceable: $19.99 if you need it one day... in contrast to $60+ for an iPod
+ supports MSC (Mass Storage Compliant) mode: no need for any software to transfer files, can be used for any data as USB stick
+ supports MTP (Music Transfer Protocol) and MS PlaysForSure (eg. for Napster To Go)
+ can by extended to 10GB with an microSD card
+ is not an iPod ;-)
CONTRAS:
- supports only an old QuickTime format for videos (big files)
- buttons are quite small and may be difficult to push
- upper surface is a fingerprint magnet (easy to clean, fortunately..)
- no gapless playback (very short - maybe 0.2s - breaks between live tracks)
- bad quality FM recording
- sometimes crashes during video playback
- microSD Card can only be used in MSC mode if I am right.. and can only be used for music, no photos/videos
I don't really need video, so big .MOV files is not an issue to me, and also don't care about audio recording... therefore I can easily give 4.5 stars ... or even 4 3/4. Truly great gadget!
Customer Review: I love my SanDisk e280! Summary: 5 Stars
Ok, I'm sure that you read all of the hype. Granted, there is a lot to hype about! You know, it really will take a while to fill it up, if you get the 8 GB model, like I do.
If I had to buy this unit again, would I? Absolutely YES!
Do I have any issues/concerns about this model? Yes. But only minor ones. If you buy any of them, do yourself a favor and buy the SanDisk 5 piece travel kit, like I did. It will give you a nice and safe place to place your e200 series player to help protect it from "real world" abuse (You know, like when you turn around and notice that you just knocked it off the table and now there's a dent in it from where it bounced off of the floor!). Also, buy the screen protectors! I didn't, but after loading more than 840 songs last night to it (it's still not even half full!) and playing around with it this morning (don't tell the boss! ;0)), I've noticed that the lovely little black face plate seems to pick up smudges on its face like moths to a flame! So that will be my next order (I really should have picked this up when I ordered it!). Also, I will probably be ordering a different set of headphones. I simply detest headphones that have foam covers on them! They always seem to get lost. Speaking of which, I just showed my e280 to a coworker and noticed that the foam earpiece cover was missing from one of the ear pieces. Fortunately, it was laying on the floor near her desk! Phew! Close call!SanDisk SDMX4-8192 Sansa e280 8 GB MP3 Player (Black)
Customer Review: Excellent Player ! Summary: 5 Stars
The most difficult thing about using the Sansa e280 was getting it out of the hard plastic-wrapped box it came packaged in. Windows XP immediately recognized the device in Media Player 11. The Sansa can be configured as a mass storage device (i.e. a regular "drive" like a usb flash drive) or as a device that Windows Media Player recognizes (the default).
The e280 came charged enough to use right out of the box. I synchronized about 3.5 Gigs worth of songs in about 30 minutes.
The FM Recording feature is really a plus. We go on vacation and have always wanted to record local stations. This thing can do that easily. The quality of the recording is not that great (WAV files), but it's better than no recording at all.
I popped a 1 Gig MicroSD card into the slot while the player was powered on. While I was viewing "Settings, Info.", the card info was added immediately, on-the-fly.
I've heard the display is prone to scratches, so I have a leather case with screen cover on order.
The earphones are cheap, but they can easily be replaced.
I have an iPod and I really think the Windows Media Player interface gives iTunes a run for the money ... providing you have a new enough player that integrates well. The e280 certainly does.
Unlike the iPod, the battery can easily be replaced in the e280. This is really a nice feature.
So far, so good. Highly recommended. Some good accessories available for this model, too.
Customer Review: great player Summary: 5 Stars
I got this Sansa to replace my truly wretched Philips GoGear MP3 player. My lord that Philips sucked, not that it's germane (or Tito) to this review. But all that misery is behind me now because this Sansa player is awesome, especially with the Rhapsody music service. No software glitches, very pretty, sturdy and lots of nice accessories. The GoGear is dead to me. Of course battery life is never close to what is advertised for any MP3 player, but this one actually will give you 12 to 15 hours of playtime even if you fiddle with it a lot and have the backlight on bright. I suppose if you set it to play a 20-hour playlist and never turned on the backlight you might get the the full 20 hours they advertise. So far, I have had no issues with this player, and I like the size, look, feel and features.UPDATE-MARCH 2011. This thing has been bled on, sweated on, stepped on, dropped, kicked, fried in a hot car, frozen in a cold car and generally used like a rented mule for a few thousand workouts and it still does exactly what it is supposed to without a hitch. I'm sure the addition of the silicone sleeve helped a lot since the sleeve really adheres to the surface and keeps moisture out. This is the ticket if you're simply looking for a great deal on a workout workhorse. Also, after many chargings the battery will still go well over 10 hours on a charge. My battery may have held up better because I hook it up to my computer every two or three weeks and rarely run it all the way down.
Customer Review: Great .mp3 player Summary: 5 Stars
I bought one for my husband for Christmas and ended up buying one for myself a few months later. After a few weeks, I can't be much more pleased. The 8G is almost filled but a lot of that is podcasts that I'll rotate off.
I have no complaints about Windows Media Player - the interface with the Sansa is great and I can get Beatles album art (can't get that with iTunes). I do use iTunes to keep podcasts up to date then sync with WMP.
Pros: not forced to use iTunes; sound is good (multiple equalizer settings AND custom 5 band EQ); battery life is as billed; replaceable battery; no problem finding a low cost screen protector, skin and jogging armband; FM Tuner; recorder; appearance and size.
Cons: really the only one I can think of is that the wheel is a little cheap feeling but fully functional.
I can't compare it to an iPod (except I know their wheels don't feel cheap) but I'm super happy with my purchase. Paired with the Belkin Tunecast II FM transmitter, I can listen to it in the car, at work or at home.
10-11-08 - I wanted to add that after months of daily use, 9 hours per day, this player still works flawlessly. I've run the battery down twice (forgot to charge it after 18 hours of use and it konked out halfway through day 3). I charged it back up after both of those times and had no problems. No booting issues, the updater works well, synching is quick and easy.
