Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk Sansa e250 2 GB MP3 Player with microSD Expansion Slot (Black)Customer Review: iPod Nano Killer Summary: 5 Stars
Before I start, I do agree that this is a iPod Nano rip off. But this player adds so much more and has value for the buck.
I just bought this player after a lot of research about this product. Read video reviews on gizmodo and engadget before I got this. I'm extremely impressed by all the things that this player can do namely
1. Music
2. Video (1.8" screen)
3. FM
4. FM recording
5. Photos
6. Voice recording
I got this for $150 and it is surely worth every penny. The mechanical dial can look and feel little ugly but once you get used to it, it is not that bad.
Also this player has same length & breadth of Nano but is almost twice as thick as the Nano. It is also heavier than the Nano but somehow this feels more sturdy than the Nano. It comes with a lanyard and I wear this all day without any problems with weight.
The screen is very bright and the interface is very very intuitive.
The software (Media converter) that comes along with player is simple and easy to use. It converts videos to .mov format to be played. Music can be transferred by just dragging and dropping mp3s. Sandisk also provides firmware upgrades on their website which worked fine. FM recording was great though the FM receiver isnt really good. It also has a micro SD card slot that can be used to add more memory to the player.
Overall, if you are looking for something that can do way more than the iPod Nano and costs $50 less, you SHOULD buy this player. If you want to follow the crowd and cant think out of the box, then you should buy the iPod Nano.
Customer Review: Sansa is great stuff!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great mp3 player! I mainly use it for podcasts but it's great.
Mine is an original first generation I bought in 2006 and it's still working great. I actually have two the 2Gig and the 8Gig.
But if either dies I won't replace it with one of the newer models, Sandisk really wants to push the Windows Media player to manage the device. It's not intuitive and just plain doesn't work well. If you go to the Sandisk support forums most of the problems are media player related.
I was lucky, there was a small Colorado company called BakMyTunes that had a great media manager for the Sansa family. It was written just for the Sansa and manages all of my media (mp3, podcasts and movies) better than anything else. The UI is really great and easy to use also. It even downloaded and managed my podcasts subscriptions!
After talking with the owner I discovered that Sandisk kept changing interface information and other data and their program wouldn't work with the newest models until they actually bought one and tested it. This was a surprise since it cost Sandisk nothing and made they player easier to use.
He told me he contacted SanDisk about interface information and was told that unless he came up with $50K they wouldn't tell him anything.
So the company closed and the product died.
Now, I have 2 Sansa's and a registered copy of saCaster and will baby all of them until each of the Sansa's die. Then I guess I'll move on to the iPod.
So, it's a great product that was created by a not so great company.
Customer Review: So easy even my Mother can set it up and use it Summary: 5 Stars
I LOVE this little player. I was really look for something that WASN'T an iThing and found this. Got it for Christmas and have listened to it everyday, almost all day, since i got it. It goes on trips with us, plays at my desk at work, plays for hours. I use the Griffen car tuner with it and love that as well. And love the fact that its expandable. I love mine so much that my son and son's girlfriend bought one, a 4G and 8G. My son works for a landscaper and uses his at work EVERY day. We love it so much that when my Moms birthday came around (number 67) , i sent her a 2G. She immediatly loaded 4 albums on it and she LOVES it. Simple to use. Now, she is pretty PC savvy, but all you have to do is choose your USB mode (from settings on your player) plug it in and start loading your music according to the USB mode you've chosen. One mode allows you to load music from WMP 10, the other mode allows for drag and drop loading. OH, and the sansa site has video tutorials now, so this couldn't be easier to use.
I have loaded pictures and video on mine using the software provided with the sansa, but have not done a lot of that cuz i mainly got it for music. The video i did load was a home movie my son made of his Senior College project, so a mom has to have that on her sansa, right??
I think the wheel is easy to use, buttons are pretty easy to press, I really have NO complaints whatsoever about this device. Some people say the screen scratches easy, but just cover the darn thing with a sticky screen protector. Geez. I have a case, but prefer to just carry it as it.
Customer Review: Doesnt quite lose a star for the little flaws... Summary: 5 Stars
I've had my e250 for a full two years now. Overall, it's been the most reliable piece of electronics I've ever owned. It's put up with all sorts of abuse (both physical and software). Of course it has frozen a few times, but reset right back to normal. In Short:
Pros:
-Good Battery life (still holds 12+ hours charge after 2 years)
-Good Sound Quality (at least with my Koss headphones)
-Great Display (even covered with scratches I can still read it under sunlight)
-Durability (ive dropped it, hit it against stuff, and even dipped it in water)
-Support for up to 2gb microSD card (doubled my mp3 capacity for $10)
-Great user community (forums, alternate firmware, etc...)
-Feature-rich (voice recorder and radio both work fine)
-Intuitive controls,Album Art Support, Incredible Price
Cons:
-No native cyrillic/unicode support
-Screen scratches easily (only alters appearance, not usability)
-Dust gets under the screen (again, does not affect usability)
-Slows down when microSD is loaded with music (switching tracks can take 3-5 seconds)
-Annoying "Updating Library" message when using microSD
Notes:
-To reset the sansa when frozen, hold pwr button for 20 seconds.
-Instructions for cleaning dust from under the screen are found on google. Requires a small screwdriver and can of compressed air.
In conclusion, a great product that I will hopefully be using for another 2+ years. Recommended to music affecionados and casual listeners alike.
Customer Review: Very good product Summary: 5 Stars
I've had this for about a year and a half now. Just recently purchased a 2GB MicroSD to double the capacity (nice they've finally fallen under $15).
It's not a perfect player. The controls can be fickle at times. The player has freezed up on me a couple of times (note this is in a period of well over a year, so not a huge complaint). It won't take Micro SDHC cards. No AC Charger is included, so you need access to a USB port (though they sell a charger on the website now). It's also not a player that will hold your ENTIRE music collection.
Probably the worst aspect is the lack of accessories. Since the player isn't as widely used as the iPod, a lot of stores don't sell things. But anything you could ever need is at least available online to anyone who wants it.
The good traits FAR outweigh the bad. The battery life is outstanding. Not to mention it is designed to have a replaceable battery in case it ever does stop holding a charge (as opposed to the extreme hassle of changing an iPod battery). It's also very small and lightweight, and has proven durable for me so far. The MicroSD card provides helpful expansion. The screen displays surprisingly good video (but is rather small, so not the best for watching a full-length movie).
Controls are very intuitive. Drag and drop can be used for adding songs to the player, very easy. There's a handy voice recorder, and an FM radio (which gets surprisingly good reception, and is recordable).
I paid over $100 for this player soon after it came out, and have no regrets yet.
