Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk Sansa Fuze 8 GB Video MP3 Player (Silver)Customer Review: Satisfaction Update Summary: 5 Stars
I recently ordered the Sansa Fuze 8gb and have had it for several weeks. It is my first MP3 player so I don't have any other experience with other brands to compare it to. But I absolutely love it. Basically I bought it to store a lot of music on a small device that I could plug into my car. The car has a direct line in jack and I just purchased a short male to male connector at Radio Shack and I was in business.
I read a lot of the reviews on here previously. Some reviews were negative about the way the Fuze was categorizing and storing music and they said it was extremely difficult to navigate. More than likely the reason for this is that people don't effectively tag their music files properly. If the meta tag data is not correct or fragmented all over the place your going to have the same problem.
You want your music to be sorted properly in order to be able to find it quickly on your MP3 player. If you can't find or navigate the menus easily it is not the fault of the player but the user. When things are out of order on the player it is because they are not tagged correctly. If you've ripped music to your computer you can often automatically tag it from the web. I find that Media Monkey is a free player that works exceptionally well to effectively tag your media. Although you don't have complete functionality with the free version, for me purchasing it was worth it. Because it has Advanced Tag Editing that will allow you to edit multiple fields for multiple tracks all at once saving a huge amount of time. For instance you can label all the songs of an Unknown Album with Genre,Artist,Album Art and Album Name in one simple step. Just "select all" tracks and go to properties and put in the info and a check mark beside the box next to the fields you want to apply to all selected tracks. Very Cool! It works great for attaching Album Art as well which will also be visible on your Fuze. You can even import your own photos or your own Album Art and have it be associated with all the tracks on the album.
If you find files on your player that seem to be lost in no man's land or in the wrong place, it is because there is something within the tag data causing it. Search that files meta tag data and you'll probably find the reason why it sorts the way it does. In some cases certain files I had didn't seem to want to accept corrections to tag data. When this happened I tried reconverting the file again to MP3 with another free program on the net called Switch and then I was able to edit the tags. Switch allows you to convert to any audio format. NCH makes Switch and many great products like this that you can download for free. Once your music is tagged correctly by Artist, Album, Genre, etc. All you have to do is drag and drop the folders to your Fuze.
Back to the review about the player itself. I find it easy to navigate and can store photos, videos, record your voice, fm radio it does it all. You do have to make sure you use compatible files and files sizes. These small players seem to reject files that are in large formats. Convert your photos to smaller size files with Picture Manager or download Sansa's free converter and it will do the trick for any files that may be being rejected due to file size. I would definitely buy all the accessories for your player. You want the clear hard plastic case and all the different house and car chargers, belt clips, arm bands etc and they're inexpensive. Accessories come in a bundle pack but you have to buy the clear hardshell case separately. Battery life seems good although it can't be replaced if it dies. Someone had complained in a review about not being able to turn the player off. That's ridiculous; you can turn it on and off at will. If you're plugged into the car you must turn it off independently of the vehicle or put it on pause and it will turn itself off after a few minutes. I do find it a bit cumbersome to turn on and off though. At least with the hard shell case on, but this isn't necessarily a negative because you wouldn't want it to be able to be turned on and off too easily. When charging through an electrical outlet the player seems to want to remain running. If you try to turn it off while charging it enters a "Standy Mode" and sort of goes to sleep. I haven't tried accessing an SD storage card yet because I haven't run out of space. Another great feature is you can delete files without being attached to a computer. Some people in other reviews complained that there was music on the player when they bought it. This is factory preloaded material so you can see how it works. It can all be deleted if you don't want it. All in all I absolutely love mine and hope it lasts a good long time. I highly recommend it.

I just wanted to add an update to this review. I had a problem with the player when it didn't completely erase some files. It wouldn't allow me to add any more music files to the player because of the glitch. I was afraid to format in fear that I would lose everything and not be able to add to it again and it would become useless. So I contacted SanDisk support on chat and the technician walked me through a reformat and it cured the problem. Sansa support gets an A+ rating as well
