Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk Sansa Fuze 4 GB Video MP3 Player (Black)Customer Review: Sold 4th gen Nano for this. Summary: 5 Stars
This is my second SanDisk Sansa that I've owned and before this, I owned the Sansa e250. I did give it a 1 star review at the time because I was pissed at the issues I was having with bugs but overall, it was a great MP3 player. After the e250, I got an 4th gen iPod Nano and I HATED it. So I sold it and bought another Sansa and I'm very glad I did. This is a solidly built, smoothly running piece of technology. It has a nice rubberized back plate and a new and improved rubbery scroll wheel that feels very well made and operated very smoothly with no noise. Unlike iPods, this scroll wheel actually moves and when used. You get a very subtle bumpy resistance that lets you know you are scrolling and the bumps stop you from scrolling over the song you want buy moving in increments. There is now a stand alone power button and dedicated menu button whereas the e250 had both functions in one button. It uses the same cord as the other Sansas so you can keep your accessories. It still comes with the same crappy earbuds as before but who uses stock earbuds anyways. The only thing negative I might have to say is that I still find it tricky to put video on. You still have to use a converter to make it the right format which is annoying but I don't put much video on anyways. Battery life is WAAYYYY better than the Nano or even a lot of other MP3 players. Overall, I'd say this is the perfect MP3 player for those who just want a great MP3 player and don't need all the features of a Touch or other portable media device. This plays music and it does it very well. It's very portable. It's very durable. What more do you want in an MP3 player?
Customer Review: Loved it! Great purchase Summary: 5 Stars
Very good little MP3 player. I would definitely recommend it.
Pros:
Changeable features including: How long the backlight stays on, wallpaper color, photo/video/music settings, brightness of the screen etc. The one thing I wish I could do with the wallpaper is use one of my own pictures for it, but no big deal.
Good battery life
Good clarity when viewing photos. Im not sure bought videos since I only have ones that I took with my camera.
Easy to download songs onto the player. (I would recommend Windows Media Player. Very simple)
Good sound quality.
I love the expandable capacity since my other MP3 players always filled up.
Cons: I don't have many things to complain about it.
Some people might think the on/off switch is a bit hard to get at. But I have an easy time.
When I first got it, and I was browsing the pictures that were already on it, the screen froze up and it wouldn't allow me to turn the player off, go back to the home page or anything, so I just waited till the battery died. It only happened once. But don't let this comment get to you, still a great player!
I have had the Sandisk Sansa Fuze for about eight months now and its still working great.
I would recommend a screen protector and perhaps a silicone skin, but I just like these kinds of things scratch less.
Over all, I really like this MP3 player.
Customer Review: I like Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this as a replacement for an iPod Nano whose battery is rapidly dying. It's a great little MP3 player, and is really just at the right price point.
Though there's nothing really bad about the built-in firmware, I'm a hacker at heart and have installed the Rockbox replacement firmware (it allows dual-booting, for the best of both worlds). I use a Mac, and while music management isn't as simple as with iTunes and the iPod, I've mucked around with Songbird (which gives smart playlists and synch ability) and can manage both the internal memory and my 8GB microSD card nicely, though "drag and drop" works very well, too. The FM radio was a big selling point, and it works as expected.
One big difference between the Fuze and the iPod is the Fuze's "noisy" controls... depressing the control wheel or the select button results in an audible, mechanical "click". Certainly not a deal-breaker, but it does get a little old after awhile.
I have a new pair of Sennheiser CX-500-B headphones, and the combination of Fuze and headphones makes for very exciting music. I listen to everything from Gaga to classical, and I haven't been disappointed by anything so far from the Fuze.
I haven't used it enough to really stress the battery (and it's been plugged in and out of the computer a lot, which means the battery is getting charged frequently), but according to the battery meter on the device, it seems very efficient. Now that I've got music set up I can avoid plugging it in for awhile and see how battery life is.
Customer Review: Excellent improvements over the Sansa e200 series Summary: 5 Stars
I had an e280 for almost 2 years until so many mechanical things started going wrong that I had to get rid of it. So I was a bit hesitant to try another SanDisk player, but I've been very happy with the improvements. Here's the stuff I like so far:
* The rubber scroll wheel is much smoother than the plastic ring on the e200.
* The player separates podcasts from your music, so if you want to shuffle your library you don't get podcasts you end up skipping over.
* The wider TV-style screen is much easier to read than the old iPod-mini shaped one.
* This is really subtle, but it makes a difference to me. When you pause a song or start one up again there's a slight curve to the volume change, rather than a sudden stop or start. This is a much more pleasant effect, and again it's subtle, but it's less jarring when you're listening a lot during the day.
* You can now delete a track on the fly instead of having to wait until you're synced to your computer. That's really nice to have when you're done with a podcast and you want to get it out of your playlist.
Overall I really like the design of this unit. It has a nice aesthetic to it and it feels like a solidly-built machine. I highly recommend any of the DLO-brand accessories, especially the neoprene armband/jacket combos that are good for workouts. But the cheaper silicone sleeves are OK too.
If you're just not an Apple kind of person, or you're looking for a machine that operates great with Windows Media Player, this is an excellent choice.
Customer Review: I'm loving it. Summary: 5 Stars
DEc. 21, 2009 - I have now been using this daily for almost two years. Still going strong. I have passed my two others on to my girls, who love them. I have Griffin bases for them, attached to computer speakers. That makes them into cheap stereos. They record stories and playlets on them using the voice recorder and of course listen to music, as well.
I just purchased the third of these. The first, I use exclusively at the gym. The second is for use in the car and around the house, etc. The third is for my older daughter. I plan to get two more for my younger daughter and my wife.
The price is very reasonable, they are reliable enough, easy enough to use, and I can place custom playlists and photos and videos for them on each. I wish the colors were more available, but you will very likely want a silicone skin to protect it.
Since April 2008 or so, I have been using this just about every day as I do 30-minute exercise routines. The player has good battery life and I enjoy being able to do voice recording and view video clips.
With an 8 gig microSD card, I have hundreds of songs on it. Playlist management is a bit challenging, but material can be placed or removed directly onto the unit from within your operating system's file management. This can be done especially quickly when using a card reader for the removable memory.
For me, the FM radio is useless. One can't expect such a function to be useful for much more than tuning in to in-house simulcasting in an exercise facility.
