Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk SDSDB-1024-A10/11 1 GB Secure Digital Card (Retail Package)

Customer Review: A Pawn to Build Kingdoms
Summary: 5 Stars

And what a pawn this is. I was really skeptical of this product when I bought my first camera, not really aware of a good OR bad reputation. With electronics the argument about name brand vs. generic goes out the proverbial window with some things, and I was afraid of what might happen if this turned out to be a dud. I found out quickly that Sandisk isn't really given the proper amount of credit it deserves, and especially so since it really is a dependable piece of hardware. And I say that because of the experience my friends and I have had with this particular product.

As far as the 1GB card goes, I have owned two of these myself - one for over two years by itself - and it has NEVER been a problem when it comes to my camera. Five of my friends and three of my family members also use these and they have all had glowing comments about this item. When you add in the capacity it has for the price, carrying almost 500 pictures at over 5 megapixels, its amazing. I remember film and how much film cost me when I was just snapping pictures. Now, two years after-the-fact, I think of how good the investment turned out to be.

To add, since I did not see it on any prior reviews, if you are new to the electronic fiesta and you want to know how many pictures this will carry for your camera, you compare how many megapixels you use when you take pictures with the total amount of memory on the card as listed on a conversion chart. These can be easily found online, and the amount of memory contained in 1GB is amazing when you look at affordability. Even for the bigger fish in the electronic pond, this carries a lot of pictures and would be a great investment.

Customer Review: Large storage capacity, quality brand, good price
Summary: 5 Stars

I currently own this 1GB SanDisk SD card and a 512MB model, too, that I use primarily with my Treo 650 smartphone.

I have no complaints about either of them, but don't take my word for it, check out the News and Reviews link on the product page for yourself. While each brand has its strengths and weaknesses, when you add everything up together and compare the results, SanDisk gives you the best bang for your buck.

I usually keep an SD card in my phone at all times to store everything from MP3s, videos, eBooks, photos, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, and even a couple Palm applications.

This 1GB capacity not only allows you to store around 250-300 songs or photos, but even a small compressed video or two (if you want to rip parts of your favorite DVD or TV show).

The additional capacity offered by these larger cards begs the question as to why you would want to pay $200 (or more) for a stand-alone flash-enabled MP3 player when you can get a phone-camera-Palm Pilot in one convergent device.

Of course, this card is versatile enough to use for general flash storage tasks when coupled with an inexpensive USB reader (check out the Bonzai for less than 10 dollars), or to transfer files between desktops and laptops, digital cameras, whatever.

SanDisk offers rebates every few months so even if you don't need a card right now, put this on your wishlist and check Amazon frequently to take advantage of the next saving opportunity.

Customer Review: A lot of memory in a small package.
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought the SanDisk 1 GB card for my Kodak 5 megapixel camera. The 32 megs that come in the camera left me with a full memory, so I wanted more. It arrived quickly and installed easily. I'm amazed at how small a gig of memory is these days. My Kodak Dx7590 camera says that it has room for 632 pictures at the 5 megapixel maximum setting. At the 1.8 megapixel setting it says that I can shoot 1,554 pictures before running out of memory. Either of those is way more than I've had a chance to use before returning home and downloading them to my PC.

I got the 1gb after comparing all the smaller ones. I did think about buying two or four smaller SD cards instead of the larger one. Now I'm glad to have the whole gig of memory instead of two or three smaller ones. I don't have to carry the extras cards and open the camera in rain or dust.

I did some comparison shopping on e-bay and elsewhere and found that the Amazon price, including shipping, was equal or less and it wasn't from some vendor I've never heard of. If you have a camera or other product that takes the SD cards, the price is hard to beat and the convenience of a lot of memory is very nice. As the old computer pros say, "you can never have too much memory."

Customer Review: The SanDisk cards are excellent...
Summary: 5 Stars

...and I'll take this opportunity to share a bit of information with you that is not known by most people. All SanDisk SD cards have an expected wear threshold of 100,000 writes per sector. This may sound like plenty, but it really depends on what you do with the card and how you use it.

I know one person who stores temporary Internet cache files on a 1 GB SanDisk card. If you browse 10 web pages per day with 20 files on each (this is pretty low actually - many pages have more than 100 images now days), that's 200 files per day.

Looking at it blindly, in 500 days you would have had 100,000 writes. This is not really fair, though, because not all writes would have been to the same sector. However, if you visit more like 50 pages per day and have your cache emptied once per day, you could actually "expire" one or more sectors on the card in less than a year.

My point is, mostly, this: SD cards do not last forever and you should keep this in mind as you store important data on these devices. The good news is that the way most of us use the devices they will keep on working for many years!

Customer Review: So far so good. . . and I could afford a better camera!
Summary: 5 Stars

Been using my 1.0gb card for several days (taking pictures, loading onto computer, and Walmart photo machine, etc.). So far it's working like a charm. The great thing about cards like this is that it allowed me to buy a better camera - let me explain. . . Because the memory cards that come with cameras are only a little better than the "prop" tv's you see in furniture stores, it is important to consider the high cost of a "real" memory card when you decide to buy a digital camera. In other words, a lot of people may have to seriously consider buying a cheaper camera because of the high cost of memory cards, camera cases, batteries, etc. Fortunately, cards like this allow you to stretch your "camera" dollars. In my case, it allowed me to buy a Canon SD300 instead of the old, error-prone S410. With my SD300, a 4 megapixel, and with the 1.0gb Sandisk, I'm getting 487 pictures on the highest resolution. WOOHOO! The only other comment I have is that some retailers are offering $20 rebates on this card - check CompUSA.com and Bestbuy.com for rebates. Why don't you have them, Amazon?
