Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk SDDR-64-768 Compact Flash to PC Card AdapterCustomer Review: You can't imagine how slow it is, but it's still the choice... Summary: 4 StarsI did not even try copying a bulky file but edited a Word document stored on it instead. I immediately figured out that it takes 3 seconds to save a .doc file of size 41kb...what the hell???!!!
But after searching the technical documents I realized that PCMCIA interface offers transfer rate up to 66Mbit/s contrary to USB2.0 which offers 480MBit/s. So here is the difference, and there is nothing better to do.
The bad part is that the new Express Card interface, which is as fast as USB2.0, didn't yet give birth to any CF solution as good as this one physically. They are either unable to support CF, or have to leave 2/3 of the card body out of the adapter (that means out of your laptop), which may lead to physical damage to the memory when shock or impact happens.
That's why I still rated it as 4-star. We have no other choice. If you don't have to use CF, go to Express Card adapters with other types of memories like SD, PLEASE!!!
Customer Review: Great to have for those DSLR cards Summary: 5 StarsThis product is a great addition to a laptop that does not have a compact flash card slot. It fits snug into a standard PCMCIA slot, and is also compatible with the Windows Vista O/S (packaging does not say it, but it uses a plug-n-play driver). Fast transfer rates, and extremely portable if you want to take it out of the laptop for storing. It does not stick out of the side of the slot, so you can even leave it in the side of the laptop, but you do have to eject it everytime in order to remove the compact flash card from it. Does not support MicroDrives!!!
Customer Review: This card reader makes computers unusable! Summary: 1 StarsI have tried this card reader with two different computers and it made both of them unusable during the transfer time. In addition, it took an hour an a half to trasfer 4 GB of data. There is nothing wrong with the CF cards, because I've used a different cards readers and it transfered just fine!
Customer Review: Pc card adapter Summary: 5 StarsVery happy, compact, works very well. In the past I used to purchase the external drives that connected to my laptop via usb cable, these are much more compact and work just as good.
Customer Review: Good product, I'm sure, but won't work in the PC Card slot on a 06 Honda Civic Summary: 1 StarsI bought this item hoping that it would work in the PC Card slot in my Civic, but when I popped it in and pressed the Card tab, it would not read from the device. I checked the card reader and media both in a laptop prior to using it in my car, so I knew that the media and adapter both work. I believe that Honda uses a Type I card slot instead of a Type II card (this adapter is Type II).
So, if you are thinking of getting this for your car, you'd be better served getting the SanDisk SDAD-38-A10 CF to PC Card Adapter, which is specifically mentioned in comments as working w/Honda. Now I am just hoping that the new card that I bought will be able to address a 16GB CF card!
