Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk Cruzer Micro 8 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive SDCZ6-8192-A11Customer Review: Love this little drive. Summary: 5 Stars
The U3 applications take up very little space on the drive. I find U3 useful since I frequently use computers at 3 different locations. It's a great concept in my opinion. Everyone should try them before intantly hating them and uninstalling them. If you find that you don't need the U3 then of course you should uninstall it. It only takes a minute to remove the partition and convert the Cruzer into a normal flashdrive. If you decide you want the U3 system later it's easy to add it back again, but it does require a reformat so back up your information.
The most useful U3 application for me is OpenOffice 2.0. It is fully compatible with Microsoft office and allows me to work on presentations and papers from any computer I happen to be near. Firefox (browser) and Thunderbird (email) are my other two most used applications. These are all proven open source applications that have been around for years, and they are all available at no charge.
I own two 512mb Micro Cruzer drives , a 2.0gb, and the 8gb. I bought my first one about 2 years ago maybe? I have never had a problem with any of them. I really like the retractible plug and they have proven to be plenty durable for my purposes. They all live on lanyards and have been used daily while I'm at college. Very nice sturdy little gadgets.
Customer Review: You just can't beat 'em Summary: 5 Stars
I've had 1 - 1GB Sandisk drive, 3 - 2GB Sandisk drives, and now this 8GB Sandisk drive. I have never had a problem with one ever. You just can't beat them. There is no cap to lose like many other ones. In addition to that the way the connector slides in and out of the case is perfect. No problems with that ever.
In fact, I had one of my 2GB Sandisk USB Drives go through the wash in a pair of my jeans and was fine. I let it dry out for about 3 hours after blowing it off with compressed air, and then I plugged it into my computer and left it plugged in for about 12 hours. Zero problems. I still have that drive and it works fine.
I have even taken one of my 2GB drives apart to see what the inside looked like. I basically just removed the black case and the plastic slider thing and the USB drive itself was very small. I wanted to keep using it at work (for booting PC's to the network) and so I wrapped the circuit board with duct tape. The guys at work call it the "Ghetto drive" but it still works.
Oh by the way, I ALWAYS remove the U3 software right off the bat. I hate the stuff. There is a removal tool and a re-installation tool right on the U3 website here: http://u3uninstall.s3.amazonaws.com/U3Uninstall.exe
These things are tough. Get one.
Customer Review: Very pleased Summary: 5 Stars
I have never used this kind or gadget before. It is right on the price and very easy to use. Reading Consumer reviews, it is important to have a cover and this one does.Besides, the USB connector is retractable, so I guess it adds a second layer of protection.
It's extremely small and portable. I had to change the hard drive of my computer so I needed a lot of memory to store all of my data and didn't wanted to spend too much for an external drive (I don't think I would use that too often and it takes a lot more space). It's large capacity allowed me to do this at a much lower price, plus the convenience of being so small.
When I transferred my data back into my new hard drive all the files I've checked so far were not corrupted.
I cannot compare this one to other flash drives for this is my first one, but I'm really satisfied. The price was the lowest I could find for this capacity, the size was the smallest and the capacity was really very high.
It took about 30 minutes to copy almost 8 GB, but as I said, I cannot compare with other flash drives, so I cannot say if this is slow or not.
Customer Review: Just as Advertised Summary: 5 Stars
This is a very basic USB storage unit, so anyone who is looking at a possible purchase should go in knowing as much. That said, the drive is exactly as advertised and promoted on Amazon.
The lack of a cap for the drive is something which should be mentioned, but it also should be said that the part of the drive which makes a physical connection to the PC of external storage is also retractable and should be left that way when not in use.
The price was more than fair considering the amount of GB that this drive will hold (I paid 1.10 US dollars per GB as I bought this on one Amazon'a Daily Deals). The normal Amazon price is about 25 US dollars, but this is also somewhat beneficial as this also qualifies this item for free shipping.
The speed of this drive is good on the overall, and though I take very good care of my electronics, this unit does not seem to feel as if lacks durability.
For a small and basic USB storage drive, this price is hard to beat when compared to other prices for 8 GB worth of storage.
Customer Review: Handy for a great price Summary: 5 Stars
I read a lot of the reviews before purchasing, but had already owned a smaller version of the same flash drive, so went ahead and bought it despite some of the more negative reviews. I use it at work, and any extra space the additional software takes up isn't an issue for me. I appreciate the easy-to-use security of password protection. (I know there are programs out there that can easily break passwords, but I generally leave it in my office locked up overnight. My real concern was staff being easily able to take a quick peek at confidential information if ever out of my possession.) Moving items to and from the drive to network, hard, or other flash drives is very quick and simple. If you aren't 'techy' and just need a mildly secure storage space apart from your network or hard drives, or just need more space period, then this is a reliable, inexpensive, and easy to use option. I recommend the SanDisk Cruzer- especially for the Amazon price. (This exact same item seems to run upwards of $50 on other sites for some reason.)
