Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk Cruzer Micro 4 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive SDCZ6-4096-E11Customer Review: How do you possibly live without one of these Summary: 5 Stars
The San Disk Cruzer Micro has solved the biggest problem that I've ever had with my previous USB flash drives, LOSING THE CAP! My first flash drive X-amount of years ago had the keyring attached to the detachable cap. I lost that drive within two days. The next few that I bought had the keyring on the body of the drive, but still had a detachable cap. I lost the caps within the first two days that I had the drive. The SanDisk Cruzer Micro has a sliding USB plug that retracts into the body of the unit, therefore eliminating the need for a cap. PERFECTION!!!
My biggest piece of advise is to buy one with as much memory as you can afford! Plus the included U3 Launchpad software has the ability to turn this small device into a mobile office. I have a full productivity suite installed (word processer, spreadsheet, presentation software, etc), secure internet browser, anti-virus software, photo-editing software and more installed on this thing with plenty of file storage space left over. With the combined software that's available through U3, you can literally transform any computer with a USB port into your personal computer with ease.
Customer Review: A lifesaver. Summary: 5 Stars
Purchase this a month ago because of the U3 software. Now some will say it is slow with U3 software. Well probabily so, its not really fast but, it is not really slow either. I found the programs decent. I am a Firefox user and where I work doesn't allow you to add programs on your computer. You have to use Windows. I can browse with Firefox at work now. I can also download info straigh to the drive itself. No real trace on the computer. Sometimes I get questionable e-mails of really poor taste. I can now feel safe viewing them with the CruzerSync software. I can get updates to email anywhere I go as well as Syncing with Outlook and viewing appts, task, ect., right on the drive.
When I screw up my computer this weekend I had to reimage it but I wasn't high and dry. I could keep updated and send work docs on any PC with this great drive. I own bigger hard drives with back up software but this is very portable. What a lifesaver!!!!
If you are a person with a lot of admin restrictions at work; you will proabily not like it but, if you are a Network Admin or an IS/IT person you are going to love it.
Customer Review: Brilliant! Summary: 5 Stars
This was my first exposure to these handy little storage drives, and I'm still thrilled with it two weeks later! Our home computer started to die recently, and although I have always had monthly backups of important data on CDs, I was desperate to get all my data off the dying computer. It would have taken many CDs and hours to do it, but a friend suggested this little disk, and in desperation I bought it.
It's got a whole 4 GB of memory, which handled all my irreplaceable digital pictures, banking info, favorite websites, emails, etc. etc. It copied everything in just 15 minutes, and quickly restored it to our new computer.
I like the sturdy plastic cover, and the little switch that lets you retract the USB plug so it doesn't get broken or bent. And it has a light that comes on to let you know the computer and stick see each other. Remember not to remove the stick from the port until you push "eject" on your screen (a window pops up). Once the light goes out you're free to remove it.
I can't say enough about how convenient and easy this product is! Six stars!
Customer Review: Great Flash Drive, after you remove the U3 Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the 4GB Cruzer and immediately noticed 2 icons on my Mac: a drive and a CD. In order to safely remove the drive, both icons must be ejected. I tried reformatting the drive via Apple's Disk Utility but the drive was grayed out. Fortunately I had a Windows laptop and was able to use the U3 software to erase the U3 partition on the drive, which I didn't need or want anyway. I then popped the drive back in my Mac and reformatted for OS X. Works flawlessly.
A few days ago a client needed a flash drive to copy and send me some large files from a Windows computer that didn't have a CD burner. I quickly opened Disk Utility on my Mac, reformatted the 4GB Cruzer to MS DOS format, gave it to her and she brought me the files later that day. I downloaded the files and reformatted the Cruzer for OS X in a flash (no pun intended).
I love this unit, but get rid of the U3 if you own a Mac (and as many have said, it tends to suck on Windows as well). It's very fast on USB 2.0 and painfully slow (as expected) on USB 1.1 ports.
Customer Review: Nice Product, U3 cool but not for everyone Summary: 5 Stars
I actually own the 512MB version of this product, and have nothing but praise for the flash drive itself. Its fast, doesn't crash (as most of my others (PNY) have), and no cap to lose is a huge win. Now if they could just remind me to take it with me when I leave a site.
As a tech consultant, I use a lot of different computers so the U3 feature (run programs from the drive without installing the software on the computer) is GREAT. If you are using the flash drive to transfer files between your computers, it may not be that valuable, but if you are trying to take your entire workspace between systems, its a valuable tool. If U3 doesn't do anything for you, you can remove it using the REMOVE option under STATUS AND SETTING in the U3 app. This converts it back into a standard flash drive (or at least so it says).
