Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk Cruzer Micro 16 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive SDCZ6-016G-A11

Customer Review: Great price, working good so far
Summary: 5 Stars

Note: It comes in the format FAT32 which for some odd reason will not transfer files over 4GB in size.

Let me start off with why I purchased this product. I got this product because I wanted to transfer a 14GB and a 8GB Virtual Machine Image. I got the USB yesterday and I went to put the VM images on there. When I tried the bigger one it wouldn't go on because it said "USB Full" I figure it was a bug and tried again. Looked up possible reasons why it may happen and realized that it may need to be reformatted. Anyways, I reformatted it to NTFS instead and it transfers fine. Kind of dumb that its such a big USB and FAT32 for some odd reason has a 4GB cap on max transfer size. Now one thing I find weird is I have the exact same USB in 8GB and its FAT32 and never really gave me a problem with a big file. Then again, I have only really tried less than 5 GB files so maybe 5GB is the real cap.

Regardless, just note that if you are using this to transfer 1 big file that you may need to format it to NTFS (newer/better if you ask me anyways just a little bit slower transfering). I'm fine with it being NTFS however it was rather frustrating at first becuase obviously a customer just expects it to work as soon as you get it.

Also note that the "real size" of this USB is 14.9GB. Thats how it is with any real USB though, they always have it a little lower than the size it says due to the required stuff to make it work.

Customer Review: Amazon's fault?
Summary: 5 Stars

I deleted my previous 'review' after receiving the following in my email from Digital Media Source...

"We at Digital Media Source apologize for any inconvenience. Due to an error on Amazons part they somehow reduced our listing price to .01 on the 16GB Sandisk Cruzer (from $35) yesterday morning. While we noticed the error within a couple hours of this occuring there was by that time over 1750 orders placed for over 6000 units!! This for an item which we only usually sell a few per day. (we only stock 20-30 units!!!) Obvously any rational buyer would realize a price of .01 on a $35 item must be some sort of mistake. We do not have the inventory nor the finacial means to honor these orders at that price. We are a small family run company. A 180K loss would put us out of business. In fact we wouldn't even have the finacial capability to obtain 6000 units. While we apologize for any incovenience this may have caused we had no choice but to cancel theses orders. Thank you for your understanding and we once again apologize for any inconvenience."

Thanks Digital Media Source (5 stars for the explanation). Amazon, how about cheering up some customers?

Customer Review: Works great with the XBOX 360!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this unit specifically to transfer all of my game data from my old XBOX 360 gaming console to my new XBOX 360 Slim console that I bought this week. The 360 can transfer up to 16GB of data to a flash drive, so that is why I bought this model. The 360 checked out the unit and formatted it before use and informed me that it met all of the 360 performance criteria. I moved all of my game data from my old machine, including my gamer profile onto this drive and then proceeded to test out its performance by playing my old 360 off of this drive instead of my internal HDD. It worked like a charm for this! When my new console arrived today, I popped in this unit and transferred all my data over to my new 360 S.

Everything worked perfectly and I never had any issues with any of the data involved. I now plan to use this drive with our 5 computer home network (Macintosh) whenever we need to copy a large batch of files from one machine to another and want more speed than we can get through our home network.

I highly recommend this product for anyone looking for a reliable flash drive to use with their 360 system!

Customer Review: Nice, fast little drive
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a nice fast little USB drive. I have had the 8MB version for quite a while, so I knew what to expect.

The drive retracts into the housing, so there is no cap to lose. Speeds are very fast, as far as USB drives go. Capacity is good, 16GB is more than enough for most people right now. The central slide in the case hosts an LED inside which turns on when the drive is being accessed.

The drive comes with preinstalled software, that does things like make it easier to browse the drive and a simple backup program for your critical files. You can uninstall the software from within the program's control panel if you don't want it, however.

For the sticklers out there, this really isn't a 16GB drive. The capacity is closer to 14.9 GB, but is called a 16GB drive because it's over 16,000,000,000 bytes. (A real 16GB drive would be 17,179,869,184 bytes). Still, for most people, it's more than enough space.

I personally like this line of drives and will continue to buy them as the capacity increases. They are fast, reliable, and convenient. That's all that matters to me.

Customer Review: Hated U3 first & Love it now
Summary: 5 Stars

When I used it first, I hated the U3. It was interfering with my immediate goal of transferring files from my desktop to the USB drive. I wondered why such a program should be there. I simply didn't know what U3 did. I couldn't attempt to remove it, afraid that it might damage the USB drive. I save somewhat confidential (sensitive) data in the USB drive. I was worried that I would lose the the drive. I really needed a USB drive with encryption capability. I asked so many sales reps (at Best Buy, Office Depot, etc) and the responses were that I couldn't do it. Just two weeks ago, when I mentioned this safety issue to a friend of mine, she suggested that I buy SanDisk Cruzer with U3, which will allow me to use a password for protection. That was great news since I already had this Cruzer USB flash drive for several months. I installed the U3 and I don't have to worry about losing the driver with the sensitive data anymore. Since then, I read about the U3 software to see what it could do. I think it is a great option to have. I don't use all those options, but the password protection is quite a relief. I love it now.
