Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk 2 GB SDSDX3-2048-901 Extreme III SD Memory Card (Retail Package)

Customer Review: A big difference for me!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this accidently while on vacation, thinking it was another ultra card. For me, there was a big difference between this and an ultra. My camera is a Canon S2IS. There is a very noticeable difference using this card, and I can get a lot more pictures off in less amount of time than with an ultra card. Is it worth the price difference? For me, it is. I hate to miss a nice picture of my kids doing something because the camera is not "ready," so, for the extra bit of money, I am very happy. Also, I would like to note that downloading the pictures and vvideo to my laptop, was also much faster, another pleasant surprise after taking several hundred pictures. The card reader in my laptop (which is almost 3 years old) reads the card with no problem. Lastly, the idea of safely getting back deleted pictures is nothing new, and software can easily be found (for free), with little effort, to get back whatever you accidently deleted (just don't write over the card, as you may not be able to get it back then). I know some people said they did not notice a big difference with their setup, but the few reviews I read did not say what their setup was, and I have to wonder how full the card was. I think that as the card gets more full, you will see a bigger difference. I will only buy these cards (unless faster ones come out that will work on my camera) from now on......oh yes, and a quick search will find the 2gig card for around $35 with free shipping elsewhere.

update: I just bought two more from Amazon. The price is awesome, and they are great!

Customer Review: Goes through the washer and dryer just fine...

I forgot and left my SD Ultra III in my shirt pocket. It was inside a mini-USB card reader. I didn't expect it to work. It didn't show any change in function, performance or blemish! I do not recommend you do this. I was upset I did it. I still use this same card in the same USB reader and it works great. It is faster than any pocket drive I have ever used. IOGEAR Universal Memory Drive Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Memory Card Reader/Writer Works great in the camera too. It is quicker than the Ultra II. I have both Ultra II and III. I agree that for regular photos the II is just as good. But if you set the camera to serial photos, with rapid shooting sequence the III is faster and the best choice. I use a Pentax 10D with the Ultra III and love it. With 2 GB how many do you need? Pentax K10D 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera with Shake Reduction and 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens
Portable Firefox runs well with it also. It is a faster higher quality USB devise than the average, when used with a usb reader.

Customer Review: Fast Memory but the need could be questionable .

Most Digital SLR's including those below 1000.00 dollars have an integrated buffer system that allows for minimum 3 shots per second. Because of this, the photos are not directly being written to the card immediately and this type of card is not needed. If you are shooting in burst mode - (As many shots continuously), then this card makes sense. Think of it as pouring water into a pitcher that has a hole in the bottom. if you fill the water faster than the water leaving the pitcher, you will need this card. It allow's the buffer memory to transfer more quickly to the card.

If you have a digital SLR and taking a shot every minute or so, you don't need this card. Go for an inexpensive SD card with more memory. It would be fine.

I would also recommend the Extreme card to someone who has a point and shoot camera since there is next to no buffer memory that transfer's the photo data to the card and the camera is more dependent on the write speed of the card.

Customer Review: Super fast SD card lets your equipment perform their best
Summary: 5 Stars

When I purchased my Casio Exilim EX-V8 8MP Digital Camera with 7x Anti-Shake Optical Zoom, I had a SD memory card from some other equipment. The EX-V8 is a video capable digital camera that I fully intended to carry instead of my camera and camcorder. My problem was that the SD card was so slow that I could only record about 21 seconds of video before the recording stopped and the card crept, trying to catch up. I did have it in ultra high quality wide screen, so I expected it. On a Christmas whim, I added the SanDisk Extreme III to my Christmas list. Now, I have the space to record 44 minutes, and the card can keep up. The video portion of the camera just got upgraded from a novelty to an asset. Prior to this I bought the cheapest cards I could find, now I know you should match the card to the expectations.

Customer Review: Love the "2g" EXTREME 111
Summary: 5 Stars

I wanted to be able to easily take pictures that looked great. So I wanted a card that was good quality and very reliable, AND FAST!. After many conversations with folks at the retail level, and some added research, this is the one for me. This extreme 111 is quick, reliable, and not too little, or not too much to look through as you get it filled up. I love it! I know there are now more g's available, but 2g is perfect for me. I can take 500 to 600 hundred pictures before its full. My son-in-law has a 4g card, we have the same camera, and when we turn them on at the same time, mine is instantly ready, he has to wait on his camera before its ready. Of course he also has more to "wade" though looking at his pictures. I like the convience of having several cards to use in various items, and with a reasonable amount of room on them. This 2g suits me better, and he says he's a little sorry he got the 4g.
