Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk 2 GB Class 2 SD Flash Memory Card SDSDB-2048-A11Customer Review: Great for shooting video, all Kodak cameras need Summary: 5 Stars
I've been using the SanDisk standard speed SD card series for four years and have never had a problem with these inexpensive, yet reliable cards. My oldest one (a 512MB) is still used very frequently, having captured thousands of photographs. Now that the prices are getting lower and the sizes bigger, I would suggest that if you're only shooting still shots, 2GB is probably way more than you'll ever need. A 2GB card will probably hold about 900 photos depending on your camera's megapixels and JPEG compression. That's like 40+ rolls of 35mm film! However, if your camera shoots video, this card is steal since you'll never know when you need more space.
FOR KODAK OWNERS: In July 2006, I replaced a SanDisk regular SD card like this one with a SanDisk Ultra II card for my Kodak DX7590, because I was hoping that it would allow my camera to write high-quality 5MP pictures faster. But to my surprise, it timed exactly the same. So I emailed Kodak, and this was their response: "We appreciate your interest in high speed memory for your digital camera. Our cameras are designed to operate, write and read SD cards at set voltage speeds. Therefore, there is no advantage to using faster memory in Kodak cameras."
So if you use a Kodak dock or USB cable to transfer images from a Kodak camera to your computer, this standard SanDisk card is all you need...there's no advantage to paying extra for a high-speed card like the Ultra II. However, if you use a card reader to get images from the SD card to your computer, and speed is important to you, then it might be worthwhile to pay a little more for the Ultra II since read and write speeds through the card reader could be substantially faster.
Customer Review: Big capacity in a small package from a brand you can trust Summary: 5 Stars
I currently own 512MB and 1GB SanDisk SD cards that I use primarily with my Treo 650 smartphone. I'm just waiting for the next significant price drop or rebate offer before purchasing this 2GB model. Based on my own personal experience I feel confident in recommending it to anyone.
I have no complaints about either of my SanDisk cards, but don't take my word for it, check out the News and Reviews link on the product page for yourself. While each supplier brand has its strengths and weaknesses, when you add everything up together SanDisk gives you the best bang for your buck.
I usually keep an SD card in my phone at all times to store everything from MP3s, videos, eBooks, photos, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, and even a couple Palm applications.
This additional 2GB capacity not only allows you to store around 500 songs or photos, but even a compressed 1-hour video if you want to rip your favorite DVD or TV show.
The additional capacity offered by these cards begs the question as to why you would want to pay $200 (or more) for a stand-alone flash-enabled MP3 player when you can get a phone-camera-Palm Pilot in one convergent device.
Of course, this card is versatile enough to use for general flash storage tasks when coupled with an inexpensive USB reader, or to transfer files between desktops and laptops, digital cameras, whatever.
SanDisk offers rebates every few months so even if you don't need a card right now, put this on your wishlist and check Amazon frequently to take advantage of the next saving opportunity.
Customer Review: Excellent Quality Summary: 5 Stars
The Sandisk 2GB SD is a high-quality name-brand product. It holds up very well to everyday use. The plastic casing and write-protection button is very solid - not flimsy or cheaply made like some other brands in this price category. In August 2006, I bought two SanDisk 2GB cards (new $30 each) as extra memory for my Palm TX PDA, and they work great for storing pictures, video files, backup data and programs. I also use them every day with a USB adapter for backing up PC files and transferring data to and from home and work. They work flawlessly.
Before I bought the SanDisk, I had a bad experience with a Corsair 133x 2GB card (about the same price), which had a little faster read/write speed than the SanDisk, but it was so cheaply made that it started falling apart within 2 months, including the write-protection button which fell off when I plugged it into my SD reader slot (Arrrgghhh!)
I have been very pleased with the SanDisk 2GB SD, and at $30 (new), I believe it's the best buy for the money. One web search will show you that this card sells (new) all over the place for more than twice this price. And oh yeah... stay away from "used" cards... who knows where they've been or how long they've been used. For me, it's not worth it to take a chance with my data on a used card. I hope this review helps. The SanDisk 2GB SD (new) is a smart choice.
Customer Review: Great memory Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great memory card with tons of storage! On my SD400, I can store 774 pictures or 17 minutes of video at the highest quality settings- thats alot of pictures! Not only does this card have tons of storage but it is also fast with hardly any time between taking pictures (at least with my camera). This card can be a real life saver if you want to take alot of video/photos but aren't around a computer (ex.- if your at a theme park but can't upload your files to your laptop), just be sure to bring an extra battery. This memory card is a great buy if you want tons of reliable storage for your SD supported device.
[shipping note: I choose to get standard shipping (from USPS) and when I recieved my package, they set it right underneath my mailbox at the end of my driveway- in plain site, just waiting for someone to grab it. They've brought packages to my front door before- why didn't they this time? Next time I plan on getting shipping from UPS- at least I know they won't leave my package lying next to the road.]
Customer Review: works great in my camera, Fast enough, no problems with reading. Summary: 5 Stars
I just recently bought a panasonic Lumix lz5, and I picked up this 2gb card to go with it since the store had it on sale. So far, no problems. It performs well for my average uses. I have prior memory cards and mp3 players from sandisk and I have had good luck, so I have some trust in the company. They do make the ultra SD which is reportedly a faster reading card, but for my use, this should suffice. My camera is 6mp, and can take 665 pictures at highest resolution, not bad. Check this out, great value, and I have had great luck with this companies products. Note, my card readers that i have used actually aren't sandisks, and I have never had a loading or reading problem. If a reader does, it may either be an older reader not able to read the large 2gb, or potentially a computer software problems (may need driver updates etc). Check this card out, hard to beat price for name brand.
