Customer Review: Not intended to be a reliable photo backup device

I purchased this device with the intent of using it to back up my photos daily from one SD card to another for my upcoming vacation without needing to bring a laptop, in case an SD card got lost, stolen, or damaged. After trying it out, I quickly realized that it will not work for this purpose.
First, it took me awhile to figure out how to get it to copy photos from one card to another. My first few tries resulted in the device staying lit up for awhile, then turning off with no files copied. I realized that you have to first turn it on, then insert the source/destination cards, then press which set of files you want to copy, then press the "copy" button - all in that order. The colored indicators on the device don't match all the descriptions in the included directions.
After I was able to get the device to copy files, it seemed to stay on for quite a long period of time for the amount of data on the card - a minute or two for only 1 or 2 10 megapixel photos. This resulted in confusion of if the data was actually copied, and there is no indicator on the device to let me know if the file copy was successful or not.
A new folder is created on the destination card each time a copy is initiated, containing all files of the designated type on the source card. This means that if I were to do a copy after each day of taking photos, and any prior day's photos were still on the source SD card (normal scenario when on vacation), I would end up with many duplicates of my first day's photos on the destination card, one in each folder generated by each day's copy, making for an inefficient use of space on the backup card.
I also noticed my digital camera (Canon Powershot G11) cannot read/access the photos copied to the destination card when I put the destination card in my camera. So I really have no idea what all is copied or what the disk contains until I can view the card's contents from an actual computer.
I suppose this device would probably be OK for its advertised purpose - casual transfer of files from one SD card to another just to share with a friend. But I question the usefulness of a $27 device that allows you to only do this, especially when most people use portable USB thumb drives as portable media of choice, rather than SD cards. I would not recommend it for any purposes requiring a reliable transfer of data where one can be sure the files were copied to the destination without corruption.
