Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Saitek X52 Pro Flight System ControllerCustomer Review: Saitek x52 pro works well Summary: 4 Stars
I have read the past reviews and in the face of alot of negative ones I decided to buy the Saitek X52 Pro. I recieved this controller and set it up exactly as specified in the instructions and I learned it was not plug and play. I thought it was because the instructions said it was. After much fiddling around I realized I had a defective model and had to send it back. Amazon was exceptional about helping me to obtain a new one for replacment and I plugged the replacement in and VOILA!!! It works and works like a charm and you can set it up to just play but this is a complex piece of electronics and programming, you can go into control panel and the profile editor and completely custom tailor this fine piece of work. I have noticed that my landings are so much softer, I was getting an avg of -200fpm in the big jets and now in the 744 and 777 I get about -50fpm to -100 fpm. Now there is alot more to a landing than the controller but all things being equal this controller was the answer for me.
Not all electronics will work the first time you plug them in, it's just the nature of the beast. You will be pleased with this product if you allow your patience and understanding to be ruler. I got mine replaced and I am a very happy customer and will look forward to buying Saiteks rudder pedals soon.
Customer Review: Pretty good, aside from one nasty surprise. Summary: 4 Stars
I've used Saitek joysticks for years now and I know they're good, reliable gear. Last year, Mad Catz bought Saitek which struck me with terror: quality wise, the two brands have been polar opposites. But with hope in my heart I bought the x52 Pro to feed my flight sim addiction.
When I got it out of the box it worked great, and was fun to use. The action on it is very smooth, and the buttons are convenient (minor learning curve in getting myself to use the buttons on the stick instead of the keyboard commands I'm familiar with). It went downhill for me on day two, though.
Those of you looking at this stick have probably played Flight Simulator X, and know that the trigger is the brakes. Pretty critical on landing. On day two, my trigger stopped responding. I learned this on landing, and had a fun little freak out moment. After diagnosing the problem and being a do-it-yourselfer, I opened up the case and found that the trigger wasn't pushing back far enough to hit the switch properly. I wedged in a bit of paper which solved it, permanently. Not something anyone should have to do though.
Hopefully, that issue was just my particular stick. If that's indicative of the quality otherwise, though, then that's cause for a lot of concern.
Customer Review: I love the throttle. Summary: 4 Stars
This is a very nice combo. I came from using a single stick with a built in throttle. I had to set it on my lap to get the best angle for me. But this is great now that I can wet the suction cups and set them on my roll out keyboard drawer. Comparing it to my old stick the only thing that is bad is that it seems to have a bigger dead spot from going from the middle of the stick to the outer part and just getting use to the massive amount of buttons and where they are placed. I don't play any fancy flight sim games just Star Wars Galaxies and having all sorts of buttons on the throttle make it allot easier than having to reach for the keyboard. The only thing that I don't really like is that it's not force feedback.
Customer Review: Nice Joystick, but software not Summary: 4 Stars
This is a very nice joystick. HOTAS is adjustable and also the Joystick by the knob on the front. This has so many buttons, I don't know what to do with them all. Just wish it was a little cheaper.
Another thing, any profile created with the X52 is not compatible with the X52 Pro as they use different file extensions. There is supposed to be a file converter to do this but Saitek hasn't released it. A third party version out there doesn't work. The drivers and SST software are old, but there are beta versions out there but they are causing problems with profiles also.
Customer Review: X52 Pro Summary: 4 Stars
Saitek X52 Pro Flight System Controller I have had a lot of sticks. Logitech, Sidewinders,CH Products, Saitek evo series, ect... This stick is very well made. Software can be confusing. Takes getting used to but the ability to calibrate while in game a big plus. The rotary controls smooth. The 4 way and 8 way hat switches in good locations. Stick sorta bound up at first until I applied a little lithium grease to the shaft. No problem.Had this stick for about 3 months. No regrets.
