Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Saitek Eclipse Keyboard ( PZ30AU )

Customer Review: Saitek Keyboard great but missing 1 feature...
Summary: 4 Stars

Keyboard is great, lighting is not need during the day and actually makes it hard to see the keys (if you are looking when typing) so I tend to turn off the lighting during the daytime hours. Works great in the dark though. Great feel and nice soft sounding keys when you are typing.

Only drawback is there is NO volume control on the keyboard... other than that it is a great keyboard.

Customer Review: Great for small hands, cool Star Trek glow, and you won't need a task light to type at night
Summary: 5 Stars

The Saitek Eclipse Keyboard glows at night. Not only is this a spiffy effect, it's a useful household tool. In our small apartment, my computer is right next to the bed. With this keyboard, I can write or IM someone all night with the lights out. If you share a bed with your partner, this is a very handy feature.

The soft indigo backlight shines through the key characters - letter, numbers, symbols - and casts a pretty "Star Trek" glow in my home office area. Of course, you can also use this keyboard in daylight! The dark graphics on the silver keys are easy to see in any light environment.

The keyboard is on the small side, and not particularly ergonomic. In my case, this is a big plus: I have small hands and a smaller keyboard is easier for me to use. The ergonomic boards tend to splay out a bit and are harder for me to use. The Eclipse does have little adjustable stand up pegs in the rear like most boards, and comes with a plastic wrist shelf that you can clip to the front if you wish. I left mine in the box - it doesn't seem to be much of a help in my case (I like my keyboards compact and that piece of plastic on the front makes it bulkier).

Extra keys include buttons for volume control, muting, and an adjust button for the glow: you can have bright glow, low glow or no glow. Otherwise, this is pretty much a standard character keyboard with no frills beyond the glowyness.

The Eclipse is a "plug and play" - meaning you don't have to install a disk or anything else in order to use the equipment. I don't need a lot of keyboard perks, but I know some people like those. I just find programmable keys add extra bulk. This keyboard is streamlined and ideal for my needs.

Best Keyboard Feature - The glow! That is its selling point. I can actually use this keyboard in the dark, no task light needed. So my bedroom stays pretty dark when I type at night, like the bridge of the Starship Enterprise on night shift. :)

Worst Keyboard Feature - Unfortunately the keys do click a bit, so if your bedmate is a light sleeper, this might still keep someone up. You would need to think about whether it is more restful for someone to have a quieter keyboard or the lights off.

Of course, if you just like the cool indigo look of the thing, that is certainly reason enough to try this product. I've tried many keyboards and am pleased with this one - it fits my small hands and my small desk, looks cool and lets me work with the lights off.

Customer Review: Better then My old keyboard
Summary: 4 Stars

i just got this daitek illuminated keyboard 4 days ago it works great under any dark condition i dont have to use my lamp any more, the only problem is that the volume buttons dont work, i dont know why but other then that the keys are soft and not loud like most other keyboards so far its the best keyboard i ever had, now some other people stated that this is not a gaming keyboard its true it is NOT its just a regular keyboard with a little more "add-on" features and a nice design.

Customer Review: Saitek Eclipse Keyboard ( PZ30AU )
Summary: 5 Stars

Excellent keyboard for the price- I thought that some of the backlit characters could be a little easier to read since I'm pretty much a two fingered typer, but I tend to go mainly by memory like someone who's an ACTUAL typist might....just a bit slower! The lighting is nice, since I use my PC in low light a good part of the time. Spacing of items is normal and the keys are easy to access without accidentally hitting any nearby ones like some keyboards can be. (especially laptops) I bought this sight unseen and I'm very happy with it!

Customer Review: keyboard failures when light is on!
Summary: 1 Stars

[...] When my keyboard started opening search windows all by itself! with the letters asd in them- I found it was a defect with the light- which is WHY I bought this keyboard. Their site's forum (see link above) had many instances of the same and other forms of freaking out. If you turn off the light- it stops this behavior- but when you reboot- it defaults back to the light on high (worst). I left my pc to reboot before going to bed and forgot about my problem and in the morning I heard error sounds- the keyboard had so many search windows opened- it took several minutes to close them all (had no group option?). Because I need lighted keys- I am now in search of a new keyboard. PS- gamers say keys rub off QUICKLY and Saitek just sends them new ones. BOTTOM LINE- IF you buy this keyboard- SAVE YOUR RECEIPT= chances are you will need it- if it happens within 2 years. My research says Eclipse II fixed erratic behavior but not keys wearing out. Please post reviews on your purchases- people like me depend on other's experiences! Thanks
