Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Saitek Eclipse Keyboard ( PZ30AU )Customer Review: Still excellent after a year Summary: 5 Stars
I have used my Saitek for over a year now for my home-based medical transcription job, which entails typing anywhere from 2 to 7 hours a day. I am a very fast typist, so my keyboard takes a pounding, yet it still feels brand new. I love the weight and that it doesn't shift around easily, and I still can't get over how only the lightest touch is required on the keys. My husband often comments on the quietness of the keyboard as opposed to my earlier models. I do find the space bar rather noisy though. Otherwise, the claim that the laser-cut finish does not wear off is not quite true, as my space bar has developed a worn area where my thumb hits it, but so far this is the only key that has shown any wear. Being a practical person, I wanted to prevent further wear on all keys, so using a bottle of good quality transparent top coat from my nail polish kit, I covered all the keys with a thin layer. This was well over a month ago and so far it is holding up fine and has in no way affected touch or background color. I would highly recommend this keyboard to everyone.
Customer Review: A neat backlit keyboard Summary: 5 Stars
If you read enough reviews out there, it seems that the consensus is that the lights aren't bright enough, especially at certain angles. While I find that to be true at the corners of the keyboard, as an avid 'typer-in-the-dark', this keyboard has been most satisfactory. I rarely use the corner keys, and that 'minus' is mostly a cosmetic thing, which could be important for many, especially considering the cost of the keyboard. The volume control keys are most welcome and the laser etched keys are very nice. This keyboard replaces my former backlit Zippy Model EL-715 keyboard which used laptop keys. Also, the letters on that keyboard started rubbing off within 6 months. I expect these laser etched keys to last considerably longer. I like the action/feel of the keyboard, and tho overall, the keyboard is not perfect, I recommend it, if you type in the dark often. One more thing of note: the included wrist rest is actually quite comfortable, even tho I don't use them, i was tempted to keep this on, if only my keyboard drawer were deeper
Customer Review: Love this keyboard! Summary: 5 Stars
This keyboard is extremely comfortable to use (forget the wrist rest...left it in the box.) The keys are nicely spaced, quiet, easy to read at night,non-sticky (unless you spill your wine on the keyboard), fat space-bar, and lovely blue glow is pleasant at night.
My daughter came to visit and fell in love with the keyboard as well. Tried to order one toa be shipped to her after she left, but it has been 3 weeks and I am still waiting for shipment. Out of stock? Why does Amazon not notify of that? Anyway, it must be a fast seller or it would be in stock.
This is my second illuminated keyboard. I purchased one of the first Saitek put on the market and wore the paint of the keys after years of use. Finally got a new one and a "spare". You ask why I did not give her my "spare"? She is a private pilot and flew to visit me, so I did not want to add to her flight weight.
I don't use it for "gaming" per se, so can't attest to how it would hold up under that kind of abuse. For daily use, I say it's perfect!
Customer Review: Nice Simple Illuminated keyboard Summary: 5 Stars
I've had the Saitek Eclipse Keyboard for over a month and so far so good. There aren't any signs of wear and tear or anything with at about 2-3 hours of use a day. The blue lighting is plenty bright, can be dimmed, and also can turn off with press of a button. Typing is relatively quiet and has a pretty nice feel to it. If you are between the Eclipse or the Eclipse II, I think the only real difference is that the Eclipse only lights up in blue, while the eclipse II lights up in 3 colors. Also, the keys on the eclipse are silver with a black background while the eclipse II I believe has black keys with a silver background. For price, the eclipse is cheaper than the eclipse II, and in my opinion, the extra colors aren't worth the difference (but that's up to you). My only critique of the keyboard is it has a little bit more of a plastic feel than I thought it would. Other than that I would go for it. It's simple, no extra LED gaming screens, feels nice, and illuminates, and just looks cool. Perfect for my uses.
Customer Review: Great. Summary: 5 Stars
So far I love the keyboard. They keys aren't "squishy" as some of the other reviews have said. It may just appear that way because it is very quiet. I type faster on this keyboard than any other one I have ever typed on... at home, at school, or at work. It is a basic functioning keyboard. No additional buttons to break or mess you up. It just has volume up, volume down, mute, and brightness. What else do you really need? The glowing feature is neat. I like that you can turn it off at night or in the daytime when you don't need the glow. It is also a "plug & play." I just plugged it in and it worked. That is it. No problems no hassles.
If you are looking for a great quiet key board that enables you to type quickly, this is the keyboard for you.
*NOTE* Some people have said that it doesn't tilt up enough. I took the extra extension piece and stuck the keyboard lifters on top of that. It doesn't slide and it doesn't take up any extra space and tilts the keyboard perfectly.
