Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Saitek Eclipse II Backlit Keyboard (PK02AU)Customer Review: Great keyboard Summary: 5 Stars
After doing quite a bit of research on what's available in back-lit or illuminated keyboards, I ordered the Eclipse II by Saitek. Having received it and used it for three weeks, I have to honestly say it's one of the best keyboards I have used over the years. Nice looking and well made!
Out of the box it felt solid and well constructed. Once I felt the action of the keys, I knew it was a winner for me. Everyone types different and likes a certain feel but this was my perception of perfect. Best described as easy touch, smooth and it's quieter than most others I've used in the past. You won't need to pound out the keys on this fluid board.
The backlight/illumination can be switched from blue to purple to red and also dimmed or brightened. A nice feature I use more than I thought I would. My keyboard drawer is limited on space and I took off the removable plastic wrist rest. Some people would probably replace this with the type they prefer anyway. It is the only thing about the keyboard I didn't care for even if it would have fit my drawer.
This keyboard definitely exceeded my expectations from a typing perspective and the illumination was just what I was searching for.
Customer Review: Great keyboard, but has just the basics (and pretty lights) Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this in a brick-and-mortar for about $70, and absolutely love it. I use it for gaming and just general computer-usage, and the back-lighting is a big help. You can switch it between blue, red, and purple, and can adjust the intensity of the light via a dial in the top right hand corner. The only real other feature is a master volume control, which is useful in-game, and has play/pause, skip, previous track, and stop buttons. It is much quieter, and has an overall nicer feel to it than a generic keyboard.
It doesn't, however, come with a ton of random buttons to hot-key all your spells to; this is a plus for me, as I like the form-factor, but if you need something complex, this is not the best choice. This is just a regular old keyboard made a whole lot cooler. I think it looks a bit classier than most other gaming keyboards-- the silver outlay is nicer in person-- but that could just me.
It has the nice, dense, weighty feel of quality electronics. I almost feel like deducting a star because using another keyboard feels like garbage-- not because this is so different, but because this is exactly the same, but indescribably better. Highly recommended. Buy it up, gamers!
Customer Review: One of the best keyboards we have ever owned Summary: 5 Stars
I read plenty of reviews on this keyboard before buying it fo my husband. Although many of them were not all that great I chose to go ahead with the purchase anyway. I am thankful that I did!!
A few of the bad reviews said the keys were too "hard" and others said they were to "soft" of a touch, I beg to differ. The keys are absolutely perfect you do not need to apply too much pressure nor do they depress with only the lightest of touches.
Other reviews said it was hard to install. All I can say is those people must of been a little light in the head!! It was a breeze to install and use!!
There were also reviews complaining that the light was too bright. Those people need to go to their eye doctor as their eyes must be EXTREMELY sensitive to light. Our computer is in our bedroom and my husband tends to use it while I am trying to go to sleep. The light from the keyboard does not keep me awake at all. Not only that but my husband does have a sensitivity to light and he has left the keyboard light on all night long and still had no trouble getting to sleep.
Bottom line it is a great keyboard and I would recommend it to anyone.
Customer Review: Just got it and love it Summary: 5 Stars
I just got this keyboard today so I can't attest to its durability but I love using it. It's now very easy to use the PC in a dark room, which was the point in buying it. Great color options; I like the purple. I know people are (understandably) frustrated that it defaults to blue after reboot but it's very easy to reset the color.
Very solid feel to it. It doesn't look or feel cheap. It doesn't slide because of the nice rubber base. Some have described the keys as a hybrid of laptop and desktop style. I agree and love the ease of keystrokes. It has the fluidity of laptop keys but the certainty of desktop keys, i.e., I don't have to wonder if the key engaged.
I also love the wrist rest. Use of it is optional and I didn't think I'd use it. But I tried it with and without, and found the most comfortable position to be keyboard tilted up (legs extended) with wrist rest in place. Of course it takes up a lot of desk space that way.
By far the most pleasant keyboard I've used. Now if only Saitek made small keyboards (without the number keys at the right) that lit up. Maybe Eclipse 3.
Customer Review: A Good Choice Summary: 5 Stars
Just built a new pc over the holidays, but had a hard time finding a keyboard which we all liked. I had been using an old Dell keyboard which we all hate. My wife and I had been to several stores and did not like what we tried....wireless, laptop style, waves, oversized, etc. Seems no one makes a simple standard keyboard anymore. I finally took a chance and ordered this keyboard based on reviews for actual typing. So far it's been a good choice. My wife and I both like it, which is unusual.
Keyboard is USB only which is what I wanted. With my new pc I also abandoned my wireless mouse and went USB with a Logitech MX518. Much better response with USB and no batteries.
As far as the lights, I initially turned them off because I found them annoying. That turned out to only be the case in daylight or with room lights on. In the dark with room lights off they work fine. Turned out to be a good keyboard for either straight typing or for gaming in the dark. Keyboard has blue, red or purple lights (and an off switch for my wife) with a dimmer knob for brightness control.
Giving it 5 stars so far.
