Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Saitek Eclipse II Backlit Keyboard (PK02AU)Customer Review: Great Keyboard Summary: 5 Stars
I read most of the reviews here before deciding to purchase this keyboard. My take on most of the reviews was that the keyboard was decent but could have brighter lights. I'm sitting in a dimly lit room (light from kitchen) and I can see all the keys fine. Now I'm turning out all the lights... Still looks good to me.
Having to use my keyboard of choice for 8+ hours a day, I've been pretty picky. Right now, though, I love this keyboard. Like another reviewer, Peg, said, the keys have a sort of leathery feel them, not hard plastic. The keyboard feels solid and well built.
One question I had before buying it (and couldn't find the answer to) was whether or not it had any USB ports on it. My previous keyboard had 2 and I used one for a wireless mouse. But no, this keyboard does not have that. Not a biggie, I think most keyboards don't.
Otherwise, this is your basic, but well built and illuminated, keyboard. It has your basic 104 keys plus a few media controls in the upper right. There is a knob, and at first I thought it was a volume control knob, but it's not- it a dimmer for the keyboard illumination. To the left of the knob are media buttons for Previous Track, Next Track, Play/Pause, and Stop. To the right of the knob are buttons for Decrease Volume, Increase Volume, Mute and Illumination. The keyboard starts up in Blue. Pressing the illumination button will cycle between Blue, Red, Purple and Off. Finally, the Num Lock, Caps Lock and Scroll Lock lights are at the top of the keyboard, below the "Saitek" logo/name. Some might be bothered by the placement, but I hardly care. I'm usually conscious of whether I'm in caps and num-lock mode or not.
No CD/software comes with the keyboard; no drivers needed. (Good.)
The wrist-wrest comes detached; attach it if you want. Optional.
Would I buy it again? Yes
Customer Review: I love this keyboard. Summary: 5 Stars
I searched for a new keyboard when my old one started getting too cruddy. My original keyboard was very basic, and after taking it apart multiple times to clean it out, I felt like I deserved something new, and decided to go with some bells and whistles.
The Eclipse II is nearly perfect. First I tried an Eclipse III, and it was great except for one minor detail - the multi-function buttons along the right and left sides. I was constantly hitting them accidentally when playing games, which was REALLY inconvenient. They were not able to be disabled or re-programmed either, so I boxed that sucker up and sent it back. Then I tried a small wireless keyboard, by Logitech I think, but it was too small, especially the function keys.
Finally Amazon had the Saitek Eclipse II back in stock, and I got one. I love it! The light-up feature works really well and can be set bright enough that I can turn off my desk light when I'm playing games at night. I also do a fair amount of writing, editing, and other work on that PC, and the keyboard works great for that too. It's very comfortable with the built-in, adjustable wrist rest and adjustable keyboard angle. It's a bit larger than a standard keyboard, but this contributes to the comfort and feeling of roominess. There's nothing that really makes this a "gaming" keyboard per se, other than the cool looks of the light-up keys. :)
The only drawback I can see is more of a feature request: I wish the keyboard had some USB ports or audio ports on it, but most keyboards don't have those features anyway, so that would really be an enhancement and not a requirement.
I'm very happy with this keyboard after using it for several months now and don't regret the purchase at all.
Customer Review: Great, comfortable keyboard Summary: 5 Stars
I have seen no signs of the super quick wear to the keys some reviews spoke of. On the contrary after using this keyboard for more than a month I appreciate its durability (cat has unnatural attraction to it as a place to sleep). The keyboard itself has a very nice solid feel. The keys have a orange peel look and feel, and so if you cannot stand any kind of texture you might find this annoying...or you might not, its a very light textural feel. I happen to like it as it gives a bit of textural feedback to go with what I think of as a mid weight keypress resistance. My mom who was a typist at one time (she learned on manual typewriter then used an electronic then a computer) thinks it has a harder keypress than her computers basic keyboard, but her current keyboard is at least 8 years old and very well broken in.
The grippy feet and the weight keep it very stable. The black areas of the keyboard are a bit greyed out from a combination of oils off of my hands, cat fur and dust from a desert environment. The black has a bit of a tendency to show scratch marks...but that is true for any shiny black surface that will happen.
The only minor quibble I have is that while the light intensity can be adjusted (and stays adjusted) when you change the LED color will reset to default blue when you restart or turn your computer off. Overall there is absolutely no question that I love the thing.
Customer Review: Back Light Keyboards Summary: 5 Stars
I have office built into my home, convenient right. The ceiling fan, while very beautifully ornamental, serves extremely poorly as a source of lighting. The office nook has only one dual plug outlet, making available power strip real estate a premium concern. I made do for a couple of years of squinting and flash lights, I even bought a USB snake light, each of them had something that made them a pain to use. (I saw the Alienware laptop that glows in the dark.) So, I set out to find a keyboard that glows in the dark. The first one I found was near [...], well I am stubborn but I am not stupid, so I kept on looking. The minute I first saw the "Saitek Eclipse II" I knew this is what I was looking for. Its affordable and made by a name I was accustomed to "Saitek" has been making my gaming joy sticks for years, so I knew that it would be durable. The keyboard worked right out of the box, no software required. I was blown away by the tactile response of the keys, (very nice.) The lights page through blue, red, violet, and off. Convenience, for me the keyboard paid for its self the first time I put the computer in standby mode and the lights turned off all by themselves. The price was cheaper at one of [...] affiliates, but purchasing experience was seamless, as if it was [...].
Customer Review: OMG I love this Keyboard! Summary: 5 Stars
My keyboard came nicely packed in a box with no damages. I love shopping on Amazon - I've never been disappointed.
- So, Saitek Eclipse II Keyboard is great/amazing/A must buy vs regular keyboard.
- The buttons are a lot more softer and quieter than my old keyboard from Dynex.
- Some previous customers posted pictures which show that some of the buttons are not displaying properly with the backlight. That keyboard must have been damaged or something because my keyboard displays each and every button in satisfying and correct way.
- There are 3 colors; Blue, Red, Pink/Purple (You can turn it off any time for power saving.)
- The other thing I like about this keyboard is the way how steady it is. The grips on the back are doing really good job.
- Wrist rest is really easy to install and it's comfortable although I don't use wrist rests.
I just opened the keyboard from the box and as I'm writing on it this review, I'm telling you what are my first feelings and thoughts about it.
I can't see anything that would disappoint me about this keyboard.
Now, you are probably reading this and you are still in doubt - Place the order. I'm telling you! You will love this keyboard.
